I bought an HP Pavilion floor demonstration computer from a general retailer. The salesman assured me that all previous user accounts and information had been removed and the computer restored to its factory configuration before I took delivery. However, when I boot it up from a cold (power off) start, I get an error saying that the password entered for user Kiosk is invalid. Kiosk is apparently the name of the default start up user account. My workaround is simply to switch users to the administrator account. The Kiosk account does not appear in the list of user accounts in the 'add or remove user accounts' tab in the control panel. The Kiosk file folder in the Users folder is empty. How can I change the default start up user account? The store did not create a password reset disk.
I am using Windows 7 Pro 64x and apparently the default user account (Owner) that I use is not working correctly. Unless I have UAC set to Never Notify, I cannot open Control Panel or UAC again. I have created a second user account as Administrator and it works correctly.
I would like to know if there is any way to fix this problem short of a clean install of Windows. If not, is it possible to move all of my settings to the user account that works correctly and delete the one that does not.
I have always been running admin and even until now I run as admin. But, I have been doing a little bit of research and realize that using a standard account is a safer practice. I have never even used a standard account. Is using a standard account a better practice? Also, how does doing average task such as installing programs and updating work through the standard user account?
I changed my user account name on Windows 7, and now the account is inaccessible. I have another account on the computer, but I cannot change the name back. Is there any way to make the account accessible again without re-installing Windows? If not, would a full back up from the other account back the data on the inaccessible account up as well as the other account's data?
I have had this pc for a couple years now and i had bought it from an individual. It at one time had windows vista ultimate 64bit and was upgraded to windows 7 ultimate 64bit.I do not have a CD program to repair the system. My problem is i have 3 accounts registered and i am the administrator. The other 2 are user accounts.I use to awhile back be able to access the "change your user account,Change your account type, and manage another account" feature.I cannot for some reason any more,i click the short cuts and nothing happens.I tried searching the net and didn't find anything that could help me out.
I have a laptop with windows 7 and three different accounts on it. two of the accounts are just standard user and one is a administrator. On the administrator account you can print to my printer, but on the standard accounts you can't. I have made sure that the printer is set to be the default and it does list the printer but says it is offline.
I'm getting pretty good at reinstalling Windows 7 (Clean) - However I do have a question: What is the best way to set myself up as the Administrator so I don't constantly have to work around those pesky "You need administrator privileges to do xxx". I would think that even with setting my default user account as an Administrator, there would be a way to really be an Administrator.
My account was an administrator account, but since I made a Guest account then my admin account has been restricted as well and I cannot change the security settings nor through safe mode, nor built-in admin account and nor using netplwiz. There all always some files or folders that are not accessible. Unfortunately they are a lot. Also I tried everything while I removed the guest account but the problem still persist.
I have laptop gifted to me, with a user name which I want to change.I have the following steps in mind:
1. Create a new administrator account 2. Copy the profile from old username to new user. 3. Backup the entire registry. 4. Edit the exported .reg file to find and replace old user with new user. 5. Login as the new user. 6. Delete old user 7. Restore the new (edited) .reg
Changed User account name in Control Panel but the User folder in explorer remains the same. No option to Rename at rightclick. I notice in User Accounts it says the name change is for Welcome screen and Start Menu. Why can't we change the User folder name?Is there any option besides to delete account and start over? It is the only account and Admin. Will we lose anything other than files in User folders?
How to change user account administrator and doesn't need to log off,im new window 7 user and im a gamer too,i have a online game played that is able to have dual screen, last time im using windows xp on playing online game and i can do the dual screen type of play by changing the administrator and doesn't need to re boot my computer. Now im using window 7 and tried the same procedure by creating a new user account administrator in control panel, but when i right click the game icon and run as administrator it just directly go to the client game, but in xp you can change direct the administrator, but here in windows doesn't.
When the logon screen appears, the admin account 'A' is selcted by default i.e. a border surrounding the username, everytime I've to manually select my account and enter password.
I just want my account 'S' to be highlighted by default when the logon screen appears. And no, i don't want to use the automatic login option. Just what I mentioned above.
I installed a program to my main user account which is an administrator account. When I click on the program to open, the mouse pointer changes like the program is going to load and then it stops. I logged into my second user account which is also an administrative account and the program opens without any problems.
When I did my initial install of Windows 7 (fresh install) I created my Administrator account with the name of "Denis". I would like to change the name of the Administrative account to "denisl". I went into control panel and changed the account name, which worked, but the folder remained named as "Denis" under the "users" folder. How do I rename the folder named "Denis" to "denisl
Yesterday, I had changed mobile nos in my User I/d- Svignesh, but didnot change email address. Now, while login it asks for password. With old password I am not able to assess the login. The old mail is also inactive. Hence , I request you to direct the password etc, that has been sent to old mail.
My brothers laptop has apparently deleted his user account and so he cannot start it up? Im not sure about the details tbh, hes running Windows 7 on a Dell laptop and he still has the installation disc and stuff. All hes told me is that his account has been deleted and so he cant start it in normal or safe mode.
I've been trying to change my user account picture in the control panel, it worked, and it showed up in the start menu, but it didn't change in the logon screen (still dell default icon). My system is Dell precision M6600, win7pro 64-bit. My user account has administrator right (in fact I am the only user).
i have windows 7 x64 in my dell precision notebook.i have administrator user and tommy user.tommy user is in admin group. but not able to execute any program but its account type is standard.then i logged in as administrator and went to UAC there i try to change the account type of tommy user from standard to administrator.....as soon as i click the administrator's radio button. the "change account type" is disabling...its not enabling.
i start my pc up (from being off) and get logged into a temp user profile. It tells me that i cannot acess my user profile and all information will be deleted on logging out. I've looked online for a soloution but none work for me ,I really dont know how to resolve this problem,I have limited knowledge and computer skills. i really dont want to scrap this drive and start over.
I have a computer with three partitions, the first with 100GB exclusively to Windows 7 (already installed), a partition for applications and another partition for personal files (photos, text, music, movies, etc.). I wonder how to configure the location of "My Documents", so that all users have only their personal files on drive of personal files. In Windows Explorer changed in each of the users the location of the Documents, Music, Video and Pictures.
- After changed the location of the folders above, there is still the same folders in C:users , and there are user settings that are there defined, eg Desktop, in C:Users. Is there any way to move all settings and folders to another drive? - Is there any way to do this operation automatic? for future users I will have to repeat the same operation, how can I indicate that all future users will have their settings and documents specified in this specific drive?
I installed some applications and found that some applications did not demand that the location where it was set to be installed the application, having been installed in C:users and C:Program Files, intended that all applications (except for windows and Office) were installed in drive applications. How do I specify that this is the default drive for installation applications? Keeping the installations of Windows + Office in this drive. Applications installed by the administrator are available for all users or must be given access to other users ? How done? In the drive file, which should contain the users and shared files, meant that each user only gets access their documents and shared. Where and how can make this configuration?
I'm hoping to teach Mum how to use my PC in the near future and she will only be using it for typing etc and maybe the internet. Also she only use it sometimes. shall I create a Limited User Account for her or turn on the Guest Account?
