Hd Video Player For Htpc?

I am currently building an htpc that will be used solely for watching movies from my hard drive, blu ray discs, and online streaming. I am trying to find an hd media player that is very light and simple. I have tried KMPlayer but it seemed to open fairly slow on my current computer, which isn't slow. I have also tried splash lite which I really like, but on some of the movie files it does not play sound, so no go there. Any other suggestions about what software would be the best? It doesn't need to be powerful because I will just be watching movies, I mostly want it to open fast and and have a small footprint.

I built a HTPC with a video card that does DVI and hdmi. The motherboard has a VGA.
But I also need either: s-video or composite What should I do? I don't want to like "downgrade" the video card and just use an old one for everything. Can I run them both? Like switch back and forth? "Simultaneous" is not required.
Also, I would already be using the PCIE 2.0x16 for the video card. I have PCIEx1 and PCI slots open. EDIT: I found this... [URL]

my father somehow made by mistake that every extension on his laptop opens with KM Player (video player), how to get it back to its default state, i have no backup, he cant use anything on his pc because it opens with this video player.

I see also lots of people using Windows Media Player playing videos. I am using VLC, and never have used WMP or any other for videos.I wonder, what is most used by Tomshardware.com users? my windows 7 just did that D@#m automatic update! Now my media player wont play video. I can hear it but i cant see it. I tried to undo the update and there isnt one listed for media player.

yesterday i made a clean installation of windows 7 in my notebook but i'm not able to play any video file in wmp 12 . i can play the mp3s though it worked fine before i reinstalled the OS whenever i try to open a video file it says wmp has stopped working and gets closed
I've tried reinstalling the player, i've repaired it using Fix WMP , i've cleaned up the registries using ccleaner but no luck yet..

I am new to windows 7, and was trying to run the tutorials supplied my microsoft, but every time I try, I get a message saying that I need to download windows media player.
I will never learn anything at this rate. I cant see why the windows 7 creators would insist I use a player with the windows name, windows media player, if it does not even work. How limited and it should be embarassing.

I'm looking for a way to automatically maximize a video and all next videos in queue when viewing videos online. The specific example I am looking for is here: NHL Video. As you'll see, when the next video in line plays the screen minimizes to regular size. Note that I have an ad-remover so that ad doesn't come up... I'm looking for a way to automatically maximize the video screen at start and when the next video plays (and thus at the present moment minimizes). Macros would work but it would be hard to time it and to make it work across a large spectrum of sites. I'm looking for something that more or less detect the video applet and thus automatically full screens it when available. Using Firefox but don't mind switching to Chrome/Opera/IE...

BSOD while I was watching a movie using windows media player and had a few Google Chrome tabs open. This has happened several times already with no apparent pattern. Built my system at the end of 2010, added the GPU 2 months ago. Has been happening before and after the addition.

the video playback in browser, every browser, using flash plugin [e.g. Internet, dailymotion, etc.] plays smoothly but freezes for a second or two every once in a while. this happens during full screen playback as well as windowed one.i also have a problem getting smooth playback using windowed mode of subedit player [i translate stuff so need this player feature, can't replace it for media player classic], even though full screen playback is just fine. same clips playback perfectly in mpc, vlc and other players. i guess the problem is somehow connected with the player, although my colleagues didn't experience this problem, neither did they experience choppy flash playback.i'm using 190.38_desktop_win7_winvista_64bit_english_whql as drivers.

I am trying to take some training videos at a website [URL]. The videos are in windows media player format embedded in IE. I selected 4 trainings. So these are in my favorite list. I launched the first video, a new window opened and it started buffering the video and then the video started. I face a problem when I closed this video and wanted to go to the next one. A new window opens with windows media player embedded in the window but it doesn't do buffering to play. Interestingly, it still showing the title of the previous training that I closed. Looks like it is getting stuck in the memory. I am using IE 9 on Win7 (64bit).

I discovered that besides VLC player on my laptop all the other video player are not able to work properly (meaning,, Windows Media Player 12, Cyberlink PowerDVD12 and WMPC are able to play only the audio, but not the video, it's just just black screen),, BUT with VLC is no problem playing any video format!! The thing is that I didn't have this problem previously,, all my video players were able to play all the same video files, which they can't now! I have the latest AMD Radeon HD video drivers installed. As I mentioned I didn't have this problem before,, with a previous versions of the AMD graphics card driver. This happened to my laptop a while ago already,, since I have this problem I updated my video drivers 5 or 6 times at least, and no change so far!Why am I assuming that the cause of my problem is the graphics card driver is, for ex. when I had just re- installed my windows (fresh! from Windows 7 to Windows 8),, the video playback was working, while the graphic card was running on the drivers provided by Microsoft! as soon as I am installing the driver for my model of AMD Radeon graphic card I am staring to have the problem.As I mentioned I have the problem for some time already, during this time I re-installed my Windows couple of time, plus I even changed the version of the windows (7to8), for the moment I have the last version of video driver installed, I haven't installed ANY codecs?

After unsolvable problems with VLC player (constant crash reports) I want to move back to Windows Media Player as my standard program to play audio & video files.But whatever I click and do, I cannot find a way to (re)associate the 'VLC'-files to WMP12.If I rightclick a 'VLC'-file in a folder, I can select 'open with' and then select WMP. But only for one instance! If i want to make WMP the default opener, I get this error message: 'This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Please install a program or, if one is already installed, create an association in the default programs control panel' - Strange message, because this file HAS a default program already, I just want to change it!I have desperately been looking for an option Windows had in the past, where you can (in explorer, I think) get a list of ALL file extensions, then select which program to use to open a specific extension, then check the box

Everytime I tried to open [URL](my IP camera video stream file); realPlayer Basic v14 kept opening an upgrade to realPlayer Plus window. When I click on "No thanks" another window for free trial opened. This was an endless loop. The IP camera video stream is H264 format and streams just fine on my other Windows 7 PC. Well, to make a long story short; the Win 7 Pro machine did not have QuickTime player installed which provided the H264 codec needed. I installed QuickTime and the IP camera now streams via realPlayer 14. I suspect you could install any H264 codec and accomplish the same thing and avoid the Plus upgrade.

First let me say, I have purchased a copy of Win 7 Ultimate upgrade from my university. I am NOT, repeat NOT, asking about pirated software. I am asking about a copy of Windows Ultimate 7 Upgrade.I have had issues recently with my system. After a whole lot of BSODs and reinstallations, I have isolated the problem and subsequently relegated that computer to being a home theater PC. During the setup, I was installing Windows. When I put in the key, it rejected it. I input it about 10 times, each time verifying it, and it kept rejecting it. I have installed this copy several times before, and had no problems previously. This is a fresh install, and the installation went smoothly up until that point. I did let it sit for about an hour during the installation. It sat at the point where you put in the username/password and then the windows key.

Basically I know virtually NOTHING about video cards. Last time I got one it refused to work in my computer (an Old Dell).Basically I want to be able to decode 1080p (and do re-encoding, not necessarily 1080p) without my computer bogging down. And I want to stream to my Xbox with subtitles, which my G620 simply CANNOT do (as it requires burning in subtitles on the fly before streaming it to the xbox).I don't want a super expensive GPU, but it needs to be low-profile to fit my case (info in hardware description)
