Oct 10, 2010Win 7 Pro media player has no video. Skin and audio work. VLC media player works fine. DVD is a commercial movie.

(re)associate Audio/video Files With Windows 7 Media Player 12?
Feb 6, 2012After unsolvable problems with VLC player (constant crash reports) I want to move back to Windows Media Player as my standard program to play audio & video files.But whatever I click and do, I cannot find a way to (re)associate the 'VLC'-files to WMP12.If I rightclick a 'VLC'-file in a folder, I can select 'open with' and then select WMP. But only for one instance! If i want to make WMP the default opener, I get this error message: 'This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Please install a program or, if one is already installed, create an association in the default programs control panel' - Strange message, because this file HAS a default program already, I just want to change it!I have desperately been looking for an option Windows had in the past, where you can (in explorer, I think) get a list of ALL file extensions, then select which program to use to open a specific extension, then check the box

Dec 30, 2010My WMP12 used to work. but nowadays, what it does whenever i try to open it is show its window for like 20 milliseconds, then close. My Encarta 2009 doesn't work well, it says it needs the WMP to play, so does my desktop gadgets. I think something happened. i tried using sfc/scannow but even it cannot solve the problem. i don't know what to do. I am currently in dilemma because most of the Win 7 features rely so much in wmp12. how am i going to use it if doesn't work? P.S. i also tried turning on and off media feature pack. it doesn't work. I am currently using Win 7 Ultimate, 2 GB ram, 1 GB vid card and Intel Duo P6100. my laptop is just a month old but its system is like failing

Jul 11, 2009I've been using the 7260 version for a week now and suddenly WMP12 won't play any audio. I have not installed anything to my knowledge that could have affected this. I haven't intalled any codecs or anything like that. Does anyone have any idea what may have happened and how I can remedy this? I have since installed a k-lite codec pack to see if it would fix it but no change. Hope I haven't complicated the problem further.

May 3, 2012I am trying to take some training videos at a website [URL]. The videos are in windows media player format embedded in IE. I selected 4 trainings. So these are in my favorite list. I launched the first video, a new window opened and it started buffering the video and then the video started. I face a problem when I closed this video and wanted to go to the next one. A new window opens with windows media player embedded in the window but it doesn't do buffering to play. Interestingly, it still showing the title of the previous training that I closed. Looks like it is getting stuck in the memory. I am using IE 9 on Win7 (64bit).

Apr 28, 2012Some (not all) videos which I play are having their audio delayed by 3.5 seconds and the video starts from 3.5 seconds itself(but shows as 00:00:00).I can fix this by using the setting audio delay function in MPC as -3500. This happens only in MPC. When I play it in Windows media player it works normally.I am guessing there is some problem in video encoding but then it works fine in Window media player. Most video files I have is in AVI format. But I encountered this problem in a MP4 video too. Another thing worth noticing is that when I try converting the problem files into a different format, it fails.

Jan 15, 2013I discovered that besides VLC player on my laptop all the other video player are not able to work properly (meaning,, Windows Media Player 12, Cyberlink PowerDVD12 and WMPC are able to play only the audio, but not the video, it's just just black screen),, BUT with VLC is no problem playing any video format!! The thing is that I didn't have this problem previously,, all my video players were able to play all the same video files, which they can't now! I have the latest AMD Radeon HD video drivers installed. As I mentioned I didn't have this problem before,, with a previous versions of the AMD graphics card driver. This happened to my laptop a while ago already,, since I have this problem I updated my video drivers 5 or 6 times at least, and no change so far!Why am I assuming that the cause of my problem is the graphics card driver is, for ex. when I had just re- installed my windows (fresh! from Windows 7 to Windows 8),, the video playback was working, while the graphic card was running on the drivers provided by Microsoft! as soon as I am installing the driver for my model of AMD Radeon graphic card I am staring to have the problem.As I mentioned I have the problem for some time already, during this time I re-installed my Windows couple of time, plus I even changed the version of the windows (7to8), for the moment I have the last version of video driver installed, I haven't installed ANY codecs?

Just to burn some music CDs sometimes.I've tried deleting the files from the WMP library but the next time I open it up, it scans and updates all my files again! And I have Foobar (portable) as the default program for .mp3.Usually the icons on .mp4, .avi, .mp3 files get updated with the icons of the assigned media players.But on this PC it's not working. They're still the same icons as if WMP was the default player.Does it have to do with the Standard user account? (Because on other PCs I run from an Admin account and I don't have such problems.)

The media center worked fine then. It was loading my ffdshow and ac3filter along as I checked it.But then yesterday I noticed that the same pop-up od recommended/express install of WMP came again. Initially I thought that it must be some bug or something, but then when my MKV and AVI files didn't work in WMC, I realized that somehow WMP x64 got triggered, and now it is using the x64 bit of WMP in WMC. And I just wanna revert back to 32-bit WMP in WMC.

This DVD player is an external player and I have no problem with playback on my Dual boot with Vista Home Premium.
