View 5 Replies View RelatedI don't remember my administrator user password. I can't change it without knowing the original password. How do I find out what my password is? I use an eikon biometric fingerprint device. I've run into this problem because I cannot backup my notebook on my external hard drive. So, I use my network to copy all files from the notebook to my desktop. Then I backup the desktop to the external hard drive (USP). When the transfer is complete the desktop asks for the password on my notebook and I don't know it. Therefore I'm not sure that the files I have transferred from the notebook are being backed up on the desktop. Again, all I need to know is how to find out what my notebook user (administrator) password is.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI attempt to connect to my wireless broadband connection but when i click 'connect' a windows security pop up arrives stating that I need to provide a username and password for 'Network authentication'. I dont have these nor do I believe that I have ever included these perviously. This action has only recently appeared and I cannot 'bypass' it. I have other computers linked to the same wifi connection and these are operating just fine (the problem computer runs Windows 7 and is the only one with Win 7). So at least I know that it is not the internet connection itself.Maybe not of any importance but this problem only occurred after the unit ran out of battery power and has not been able to access my broadband service since the subsequent recharge.I have visited Win 7 Network centre on the computer to attempt to establish the problem (it recognises I have one) and been through all the troubleshooting options but no resolution.

So I think, okay, I'll just try to start up it in Safe Mode, no problem. But when I try to start it in Safe Mode the computer freezes at classpnp.sys and doesn't continue. I'm at a loss about what to do.
My computer is a Gateway Desktop, running Windows 7 Home Premium (64bit), intel premium processor, 1 TB hard drive, 6 GB DDR3 memory. I tried using the "Last Known Good Config" option, to no avail. I got the "Replacing invalid security ID" message. I let that go for about an hour when I stopped it, as it was going nowhere. If it makes any difference, I have also installed another operating system (Ubuntu).
My real issue is that I forgot my User password for the only, and hence, Administrator account on my laptop. I was going to try and do a system recovery from my Sytem Image back up, but I can't access the System Repair boot menu without the password.Alternatively, any information for reseting/removing an Administrator User account password for Windows 7.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a desktop and a laptop both running Windows 7 Ultimate x86. My desktop is being primarily used as a media server with external hard drives attached to it. I was able to share my external hard drives over the network and my laptop was able to detect them. Right now "password protected sharing" is turned off, but I want to turn it on so that no one except me can access that network. My question is, what is my user name and password? It asks me for my user name and password but I never set one up. Is there a way to find out what my user name and password is? And is there a way to change it so I can pick my own user name and password?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI cannot remember a password I had set on Windows 7. The user is set to have administrative privileges. How can I reset the password without losing any data. When testing on another machine, i went into local users and groups, right click and it gives me the option to reset password, but a message comes up to say that i might lose information if I reset the password this way:(
How do I go about restoring my password with not losing any indormation and setting?
We bought as exdisplay PC & they told us it would be restored to factory settings. When i start up it immediately tells me user name & password is incorrect. I click okay & it wants me to log into kiosk. From there I have to switch user. I've looked in user accounts a dozen times - there is only on user account (admin) & it's in my name. So where or what is kiosk? I've done the whole "regedit" thing but I don't have a default folder under profiles.

View 4 Replies View RelatedThis (widely acclaimed) Windows Registry backup utility restores the security feature Microsoft discontinued with Windows 98SE and Windows ME: the ability to retain full daily automatic backups of a user-determined number of registries, as the first (and it should not be the only) line of defense in recovering a 'hosed' system, from registry corruption.Starting with Windows Vista, there has been a compatiblity problem, as noted by Lars Hederer, the utility's author:Quote:Question: Do ERUNT and NTREGOPT run on Windows 7? Answer: ERUNT and NTREGOPT in their current versions 1.1j are still compatible with Windows 7, but as in Vista, they will only work correctly if you turn off User Account Control in Windows' Control Panel (move the slider to the lowest position). ... Future versions of ERUNT and NTREGOPT will of course have these issues fixed. Keep an eye on my homepage for updates. Unfortunately, there have been no "future versions", so users have devised work-arounds, the best known being creating a scheduled-shortcut to the .exe that runs the daily backup, to prevent it from 'hanging' and failing, when Windows' silent prompt (are you sure you really want to run this .exe file, that you just clicked on?) gets no human response. Many users are reluctant to take the author's advice, to just shut off UAC, although this does fix it.
I (hope!) I have found a simpler solution, suitable even for the non-hacker.Install and run this small (85KB) utility, to put UAC in the 'Quiet Mode' -- as shown in the illustration. You should have a Windows Shortcut for eruNT's autoback.exe in the StartUp directory. First, set MS Windows' UAC slider wherever you wish. Then turn on 'Quiet Mode' in the linked utility. Then exit, and don't look again at the UAC slider, as a Windows-bug makes it show an erroneous indication (carefully read the utility's documentation on this point).Just make sure that the shortcut to autoback.exe is set to run its target in Administrative mode, and then set the Target-line as:[CODE]
My father has a laptop that he received from his work. My father works at a high school and the school is currently closed for the summer vacation. All of the technicians are on vacation now and the school board is also closed. There is no technician to help my father. The computer technician has set up his user name and password. It has been working for the last few months but suddenly, a few days ago, when he types in his password, he gets the message that his username or password are incorrect.
I have tried starting it up on safe mode, but it is still asking for his login and it is still incorrect. I have tried logging into the administrator password but it is not a blank password and nothing I have put in works. I have also tried switching user but there is no other user. I have tried restoring the computer but it states that I need to have administrator clearance to restore. I have the windows 7 disk but I am unsure how to activate it. My father has not made a password restore disk and when I tried to follow the instructions of saving the password on a usb or a disk, it did not work because I did not have the password disk.
I am currently trying to reinstall Windows 7, as that is what a lot of forums were telling me to do but it is taking forever. I am hearing people tell me to download recovery tools, but I have no idea how to do this as the only computer I have currently is my father's computer, which I cannot get onto the internet! (I am typing from an ipod). How do I download ISOs and recovery files when I cannot access the internet?
What I would like is to have the need for passwords to be entered on initial login, but not when switching users.

This is mainly for new users, or for the default user. I have workstations that have several people sharing them and need this for everyone.
I have looked in these locations: HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsShellBags1DesktopIconSize And HKey_CURRENT_USERControl PanelDesktopWindowMetricsShell Icon Size I played with both these settings for myself, and the desktop icons do not change. If I reboot, the first key value goes back to 32, and the second key stays at 96. But my icons never change in size. I am looking for any way to do this in the registry. I could try copying the ntuser.dat but fear I will still have issues with paths, and other defaults that will cause the same problem I had originally.
