View 5 RepliesI currently just set up my new build. I decided to go with Western Digital Caviar Green 3TB for my hard drive. However, I split the hard drive into two parts: 2 TB and roughly about 770 GB unallocated space. I installed Window 7 on 2TB partition. Now, I decide to use the rest of 770 GB of unallocated space. I tried to use Computer Management, but it doesn't give me the option to create a new volume from unallocated space. Similar thing happened with EaseUS Partition Master. With Acronis Disk Director, it doesn't even recognize the unallocated space at all!!! So how can I create a new volume or even merge it with my C drive? Do I have to reformat my hard drive and split them again and do a clean installation again?
Note:I already checked, my BIOS recognizes my hard drive with 3 TB. The unallocated space is right after my C drive. There is only 1 primary MBR partition (C drive), and 100 MB system files right before it.
I tried to install a .exe file (in order to support ArchiCad 12) onto my laptop (Gateway NV79). I get a message saying "Out of Disk Space -Volue 'D:'". It should be installing onto the C: drive. My D: drive is my cd/dvd drive.

when I'm formatting a HDD that is completely clean (no partitions or volumes) should I create a partition or some kind of volume to format the drive, which will format the whole drive, I don't know which one to go with.
If partition, what kind, primary extended etc. If volume, what kind of volume RAID, stripe etc

View 3 Replies View RelatedYesterday I tried making partitions in my hard disk, and I failed Here's what I did:
1. run compmgmt.msc
2. Shrink C: drive
3. my hard disk' capacity shrunk from 451GB to 260GB
4. an error window appeared ("I/O device error" I think)
5. it left me no unallocated space to create partition
using compmgmt I can't extend my hdd back to 451GB, so I used MiniTool partition wizard to restore it (btw, shrinking with MT PartitionWiz resulted the same, no unallocated space)
I have 500 GB harddisc on my laptop with three partitions. I wanted to split the 400gb into 300 + 100 GB. So, I went to disc management and shurnk the volume to 300GB. I saw 100GB unallocated space. But, when I try to create a new partition with that unallocate space, I get a message that 'media not writable' and the 100gb remains unallocated. I have used a software called 'MiniTool Partition Wizard Home Edition'. But, it couldn't apply the changes either.
how can I create a new partition with my 100gb unallocated space.
I bought a 3TB hard drive for my gf and did a fresh install of Windows 7. When I was creating the first partition the Win7 install auto created two more volumes, both labeled as Unalloated. I thought nothing of it as I figured I would be able to merge/create my second partion with the remaining space once Windows was up and running. However, to my dimay I can not create a partition on one of those random Unallocated volumes. I've tried to delete all partition but the one that my OS is running on and I've tried to create two then merger but when I right-click on the second (first one works) volume the option t create a simple volume is greyed out.

I'm belatedly trying to create my first system recovery backup, on a system which I first installed Windows back in November 2011.I have a 1TB drive with a 214GB partition that I set up for a backup. I manually store all my media and pictures to both a separate partition on the drive, in the cloud, and on a separate external HDD, so all I really want to back up is the system image. This is the newbie sounding question to confirm my suspicions: The system drive I'm trying to back up is definitely bigger than the partition I've set aside for recovery. My C drive is a 473GB partition, and I'm using maybe a bit more than half of that currently. If this is the case, is there a way to reallocate un-used disk space from my other partitions to make the recovery partition larger, or should I be biting the bullet and shelling out for a 500GB external to cover my system recovery needs?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to create a new disk partition so that I can install Windows 8 (Consumer Preview) on it. However, I'm running into an issue here. When I go to create the partition, I get to the final step and this is what I run into (see image below).I'm thinking of just leaving the space unallocated and formatting it when I do my install of 8, but then I'm afraid that might render my Windows 7 partition unbootable. Will that happen?

My computer keeps saying it is running out of room on C drive. I don't feel like I have that much stuff on my computer. And I feel like seeing as it is a relatively new computer I shouldn't be having this problem. is there an easier way to clean out my computer then to go through every file, every picture, every song to decided if I should delete it or not?

Im not into video, music, games or anything else I know of that would use that much space. I surf the web, and keep some scanned and some text documents. A few months ago I carefully installed Windows 7, instead of Vista which my PC came with. No problems. I just now deleted the old Windows stuff, and that freed up 47 GB, so thats good. I suspect that my hard drive was partitioned during that installation of Windows 7, and I dont know that that is necessary. Can that be undone?
