View 5 RepliesI have my dad's computer already setup with Windows 7. For some odd reason being that there is only one drive in the computer. the computer's bios is set to RAID. I know you need at least two drives to perform any RAID functions. When I tried to switch over the SATA drives in the BIOS from RAID to ACHI, windows failed to start. Is there some proceedure first that I need to do before I switch them? Like a driver or does the hard drives have to be switched on a clean install of windows?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI had a friend help install windows, back then I was clueless about the whole deal with achi and ide. A while later, I had to switch hard drives just to run some tests, and the computer wouldnt but, even after putting the original back in.
Turns out BIOS had set itself to ACHI, not allowing windows to boot. Switching it to IDE made it work.
Now I bought an SSD, and its not quite detecting. Im also hearing ACHI is much faster than IDE, so I want to just spend time and switch over.
How would I go about reinstalling windows as ACHI? I have an installation disk and everything. I've already started backing up files to leave the boot disk empty and ready to roll.
I'm making a post as a W7x64 install is driving me nuts. During Windows 7 setup, at the F6 prompt, I've loaded the drivers for the Southbridge to enable SATA hotswapping and NCQ'ability.
When I set the BIOS to ACHI mode the Windows 7 installation fails to complete, during the first reboot within setup Windows 7 will report a hardware fault and refuses to reboot.
When I set the BIOS to IDE mode the installation goes fine, but there's no sign of hotswap or NCQ onboard.
All my SATA drives are in SATA-II mode (Barracudas, 1x 80Gb boot, 2x 1Tb archivage, 1x 500Gb misc') so this isn't the cause, and they're all connected to the orange/yellow main bank of six SATA ports (there is nothing attached to the purple Gigabyte chipped twin headers).
I've already swapped out all the SATA cables and chkdsk'd the drives, and verified the integrity of the Windows 7 DVD.
My board had the original BIOS when I checked, so I upgraded to version F6. Alas nothing has changed. Other components are a Palit HD4850 Sonic graphics card, 8Gb OCZ 1,333Mhz RAM, plus a modest Intel Q9300 2.5Ghz CPU.
If anyone has experience of loading the Southbridge ICH10 drivers under Windows 7 and can spare me an explanation I'd be very grateful.
I've recently upgraded my computer with an ASUS P6P67 Pro, Intel i5 2500K, Corsair Vengeance 8GB and Corsair TX650 The operating system is Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit.The installation of hardware went fine, I used my WD Raptor 64GB as system drive and connected my 2 other drives.Maxtor 250GB and Samsung Spinpoint 750GB. (they will be replaced eventually)The installation of Windows 7 also went fine, no problems at all. When it was installed I could see all harddrives and I could browse them. But after I installed the drivers from the DVD from Asus and restarted the computer it hangs at the Windows logo waving. It just keeps waving for hours. When I disconnect the Maxtor and Samsung drive, it boot up correctly. I've only tried to connect them to the Intel SATA Controller. I tried to switch between the connectors but it didn't boot up.When the drives where disconnected I could resume the configuration of Win 7 and I ran Windows Update to install SP1 but still the same problem when i tried too connect the drives?I reinstalled 2-3 more times, but no. Then I changed in BIOS from ACHI to IDE on the Intel SATA Controller and reinstalled again and now it works?I updated everything in Windows and restarted it several times and it boot up every time. But I wish to use ACHI, since I'm planning to run RAID 0 I've used the latest chipset drivers from Intel and IRST as well.I need to clarify that the problem begins after the installation of chipset drivers.
View 8 Replies View RelatedWell, I've done a lot of research (googling) on whether or not to install Windows 7 on my solid state drive in AHCI or IDE sata mode. I wanted to confirm it with you guys to make sure I got this straight before I go ahead and install Windows 7.
If I install windows 7 on my solid state drive in sata mode ahci then later I can go to IDE if I wanted to by just switching it in bios. But if I install windows 7 under IDE mode then ill have to do a registry value change to make windows 7 work in ahci mode.
Everyone seems to have a different opinion on whether or not ahci mode is faster or worth it over IDE mode for windows 7 on a SSD. I'm not all that interested in hot swapping so thats not a interesting feature for me. I'm looking for reliability as a top priority.
I installed Windows 7 on my SOLID 2 Series SSD with it only plugged in during install. I latter added a 1tb Spinpoint F3 hard drive, and velociraptor for programsDespite the bios is in ACHI mode and it says ACHI controller installed I get these two things popping up.Is this normal? Can I change it to ACHI from installing drivers[CODE]

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a laser projector, and i control it with my windows seven notebook by usb.
Problem is, sometimes by a static shock of other devices or by other causes i do not know of, the notebook suddenly refuses to work with the usb drive anymore and the projector freezes.
but here is the part i want to solve. after replugging the usb drive windows says that the usb device is not regonised.... after plugging out and waiting 2 minutes and then replug makes it work again...if i do it sooner then usally it still shits about the device not being regonised.
Recently, I've started getting an error which says: "Your USB Composite Device can perform faster if it is plugged into a hi-speed port" "The hubs shown in bold type have free ports that can support the HI-SPEED USB device"
It then lists two bolded options for a hi-speed ports: A USB Root Hub with 6 ports, and another with 4. This error occurs on both my Windows 7 equipped Dell XPS15 (which has 2 USB ports) and an older Dell laptop which runs Vista (3 USB ports)
This is shown after my external drive (a seagate model) disconnects from my computer, which usually ends poorly for me, since I typically run Photoshop off my drive.
I'm wondering if these errors are caused by a new USB splitter I bought. It has 4 ports, but the model year and quality of the thing are dubious at best; my webcam and wireless mouse are also typically attached to it, and the webcam disconnects at the same time as the external drive. The mouse still works though, so that's pretty mysterious.
Every time im exploring my fone's memory card,or any other kind of storage like usb memory sticks, the window explorer closes down, and i have to open it agin, locate the folder i was on,but then it will happen again.
If i check Event viewer (System bit)it generates the following event: An error was detected on device DeviceHarddisk2DR2 during a paging operation.
Is my hard drive working ok?+ i noticed that my computer works slow, when im on windows explorer, going to my music,etc...
any help?
I just bought a amd phenom ii x4 955 and a asus m4a88tm le motherboard . After that i formated my hdd and installed win 7 ultimate and amd motherboard drivers. Now when i connect a usb device it shows Unknown usb device (except my mouse and keyboard).

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an Acer Aspire On 10inch Notebook that runs on Windows 7 Premium Edition (32bit). I'd been having some troubles with its speed for a day or so and since I'd neglected to do a Windows update. So, I restarted it and hoped that once it installed those updates everything would be fine. My first warning sign was the time that it took to turn off - probably 15 minutes was spent with the screen continuously saying "Shutting Down" and I took this to mean that it was probably a series of updates that I had missed. So, I left it to sit and came back to check on it afterwards. When it finally finished, a black screen took over and sat there for quite some time. Eventually I grew frustrated and restarted the computer, and saw the 'Acer' screen come up, and then the computer screen went black again and a command line started, where I received this message[CODE]

View 2 Replies View RelatedIt all started with my pc restarting(it was a power failure) to show boot device failure, insert system disk, i tried everything, from unplugging usb devices to re inserting sata cables but to no avail, now when i try to reinstall windows the setup recognizes all my partitions but refuses to install into any of them, ubuntu only recognizes one of my hard disk and partition( i have 1 big 500 g hdd as 1 part, and 2 250 g hdds in raid 0).
I tried booting from my bart pe created windows live cds but they dont detect any partitions what so ever, windows 7 dvd's repair utility can access my file structure when i browse for drivers, but it wont repair the problem, nor will it install.
My friend's desktop PC had this issue, it runs Win 7, is an HP and is just one year old. It either gives the "Unable to boot device error", or asks for the Windows CD that he doesn't have (bought it at a department store, it came with Win7 original installation but no CD). It doesn't open Windows. It still recognizes it as a hard drive in the BIOS screen, the startup order was never altered and should be Hard Drive then CD/DVD. Searching for a quick solution he found suggestions to try and change from AHCI to IDE in the BIOS and at last it got to Windows startup. Win7 in safe mode prompts him a repair mode that's going on for two hours.I downloaded the hard drive maker's tools for diagnostics (they're burnable on a cd) and will try them if this windows repair mode keeps going on indefinitely.
View 1 Replies View RelatedWhenever I use one of my USB ports, afterwards I get an error that lasts all the time that says USB device not recognized. I have gotten rid of it but then when I go back and use it again, that error pops up. The usb ports work, I use it to download pictures and other things, but I cannot get the error gone. Someone suggested I unplug the internet completely for a few minutes and it would reset itself, but that didn't work. I put the media card usb back into the port and went to where it says it is safe to remove hardware and then took it out, but that didn't work either.
