View 2 Replies View RelatedHave a small home network that has 1 desktop, 3 laptops, and tablet PC. The laptops are wireless and use Vista Home Premium and Windows 7). The desktop is hooked directly to the router via Ethernet (an Acer the problem PC).The router is WRTU54G-TM with the latest firmware, with security on it set to WPA-Personal and TKIP encryption. It hooks into cable modem. The Acer has a NVIDIA nForce 10/100 Mbps Ethernet NIC that came with system. Driver is 73.0.6.0 dated 4/30/2009. The system is less than a year old. System is Acer AX3400G-U4802 bought from Wal-mart.Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit ssigned to same Workgroup as other PCs.The Acer had problems a month ago when the power went off and on a couple of times. It then would not display a screen on the monitor. The fan and system would come on but not beep. Sent it in to Acer and they returned it saying nothing was wrong. Was able to power it up initially, but then had the display issue again. After turning system off and on multiple times I got it to come up. It won't connect to the router. Doesn't see it. In the ipconfig it was giving a 169 IP address. Seeing that DHCP was not working, I manually changed the IP to what is needed to connect to the router and used the router's gateway IP. Still no joy. The NIC cable should be fine. Tried others. Same result.
I am ready to return it again to Acer and tell them about the Internet issue. Oh, by the way checked my wall outlets and all are getting enough juice. May have to invest in a backup power supply. Here is a detail of ipconfig that I have tried (can't do advanced Windows tricks as this is the Home Premium addition and Microsoft has dumbed it down ) :

My husband has a Win 7 pc custom built by Fry's. Is there such a thing as a remote control (I guess it would need a usb dongle) to control it? Like to watch Netflix or Xfinity TV on the computer while he's in bed. He has a large monitor and then I could get him to get the pc off the kitchen table and upstairs. I tried using google but just got hits for remotely accessing from another computer. Didn't know exactly what to search for. His HP laptop came with a remote but we've never used it.

I thought it might be the hardware at first but I switched over to Vista MCE and they work fine.
I have a Vista generation WMC remote I use with my new Xbox extender and all the functions work properly except for the TV on/off & volume. I know have to use the TV remote to do these functions, the WMC control for WMC functions, and the Xbox console for Xbox on/off. Is there a way I can get this down to just one or two? From what I read, it looks like the Xbox 360 universal remote does these functions so I'm wondering why this one wouldn't...I don't need to control the Xbox functions other than turning it on.

I've seen this somewhere, but I can't for the life of me find it again. There is a way of setting only certain remotes to work with certain PCs so they don't interfere with others. I have my HTPC and laptop in the same room, both with IR receivers - whenever I use the remote for my PC, the laptop ends up with all the signals too, and I come back to find it's playing a video or something.

I am trying to have my computer the most secure as possible. I have a firewall, antivirus, anti-malware, etc. But I was wondering is it possible to have on your computer even with an anti-virus, a malicious program that allow Remote Desktop Control access (something like ProRat trojan or teamviewer)? Because I am suspecting that someone I know could had install/changed something on my computer. I know those suspicion might not be founded but in anyway I would like to understand how it work.
1. Is there any malicious application that allow Remote Desktop access that cannot be found by anti-virus? (I know it could be put in the list of exception on the anti-virus).

Am running a non-WMP-oriented Windows 7 HTPC on a large monitor, and routinely do things like browse google-news from a distance using the handheld Sony universal remotes to open/close/switch windows in a mobile manner from various locations without being chained to a keyboard & mouse. I have a Windows 7 network set up and whenever I connect remotely to another computer and lock their input such as their keyboard and mouse, the remote user still has the ability to press ctrl alt del, which then allows them to use their keyboard and mouse. My question is, is it possible to disable the ctrl alt del functionality in Windows 7 so that that Blue security screen does not appear? I have tried lots of remote desktop controlling software which has the option to lock the remote computer input, but they still can press ctrl alt del and unlock their keyboard and mouse. How do I stop this?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have been using my home internet in my new place for a couple of weeks fine, yesterday morning when I tried it it had the limited access yellow triangle and wouldn�t connect.I reset the router and connected to the wifi on my iphone which worked fine, I checked the DNS numbers were the same as on my iphone which they were and I had not changed any settings. I spent the entire day yesterday online looking for solutions, I�ve reset the adapter, disabled it etc, set the ip and dns to automatic and back again etc etc.
When my wifi tries to connect to my home internet it takes a LONG time to identify and then identifies it either as an unidentified network and/or public. Even when I change it to home it changes it back to public or just doesn�t let me change it to home and says try again later.
Ps- I just tried disabling then re-enabling the protocol 6 on the wifi which isn�t working and it just said �in order to configure TCP/IP, you must install and enable a network adapter card. But then it just let me configure it and is still connected but with limited access and public network.
I am trying to remote shut down a nother computer (adn this one at the same time) I open the cmd and type shutdown -i. then i click ADD and type in the external ip then i select planned and type in a reason. when i click ok the white window closes and it says in the cmd, The enterd computer name is not valid, or remote shut down is not supported on the target computer.
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy MCE remote has been working perfectly since the instllation of Windows 7 RC1, howeer recently it has stopped responding after reboots forcing me to uninstall the "Microsoft eHome Infrared Transceiver" driver from the device manager and walla, it works again. My infrared receiver is built into my machine. This behavior started about a week ago. Has anyone experienced this issue and if so have you found a solution?

Since from the site of Creative, it has only driver available for windows 7 x64, so i installed the driver. It works great, then the console can work too, but he can't starting automatically when windows boots. - i have to start the console by my-self and he can't be in tray bar (notification area) either.
Then the second thing is ... the remote doesn't work.
PS: I have used the update tool from Creative and all seem that all driver or soft is updated.
Anybody has a solution to make the remote works again in windows 7 ?
I need help getting my Remote Desktop Connection to work. I have followed every tutorial on this site to no avail. My pc is WORKGROUP, there is no domain. I feel like I have tried everything and still it says my credentials did not work.I am trying to set this pc up for WOL. I have activated Remote Device Access through the Control Panel and in the BIOS. I have followed through with everything to achieve waking my pc through WOL Magic Packet sending. I just can't get the Remote Desktop Connection to work to see if I can actually access the pc and get into my files.I am setting it up to be an offsite storage unit for my place of business.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI manage like 15 computers, friends, family etc, and want to setup something like remote command prompt access so i can move some an installer for whatever or fix issues remotely without bothering them.I was thinking something like telnet, or SSH but not sure how much access that will give me to the computer, I already have the built in admin account setup for using remote desktop but I truly hate using that. I want to avoid using remote desktop because well it sucks unless you are hard-lined on the same main network. I really don't need to see what they are doing, which is why i want to avoid using teamviewer, i don't wanna have to call them every time i need to login to fix something, and i don't wanna accidentally remote in and see them doing banking or something else like that.
