Use Windows 7 To Remote Control Windows XP Computer

Aug 9, 2012

I have looked at several different pages but haven't really found the real answer to remote control in my circumstances.. I am running Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit SP1. My son who lives a long way off is running XP.. Is there a program (preferably a freeby as it won't be used very often) that I can see his desktop on my PC and sort out some of his problems.. At present windows explorer keeps giving problems saying that the web site he tries to access is giving problems and it then returns to the home page.

Remote Control For Desktop Pc?

Nov 22, 2011

My husband has a Win 7 pc custom built by Fry's. Is there such a thing as a remote control (I guess it would need a usb dongle) to control it? Like to watch Netflix or Xfinity TV on the computer while he's in bed. He has a large monitor and then I could get him to get the pc off the kitchen table and upstairs. I tried using google but just got hits for remotely accessing from another computer. Didn't know exactly what to search for. His HP laptop came with a remote but we've never used it.

Control TV On/Off & Volume Functions With WMC Remote?

Mar 11, 2012

I have a Vista generation WMC remote I use with my new Xbox extender and all the functions work properly except for the TV on/off & volume. I know have to use the TV remote to do these functions, the WMC control for WMC functions, and the Xbox console for Xbox on/off. Is there a way I can get this down to just one or two? From what I read, it looks like the Xbox 360 universal remote does these functions so I'm wondering why this one wouldn't...I don't need to control the Xbox functions other than turning it on.

Remote Desktop Client 6.1 Cannot Connect To Remote Computer

Aug 30, 2011

We have several remote systems that can all connect fine. I am having an issue with one box. It is a windows 7 home premium machine with netgear wireless nic. When I open mstsc to connect to a remote machine I put in the ip address and click on connect.I receive an immediate failure with the text "This computer can't connect to the remote computer. Try connecting again...blah blah"I have a server 2008 r2 with Network level authentication enabled. I have 8 other systems that are hardwired, at different geographic locations and all connect fine. I have not made any changes on the server side since this problem seems to be local to this client only. On the client I have made the following changes/observations. I have disabled the firewall, cleared the remote desktop cache, remove the MRU entries from the registry, verified that port 3389 is open via telnet. I have been bashing my head for days trying to figure out why this one box is not working. The problem occurs for every user on the box including the admin.I don't receive the box that prompts for warning if there is a server authentication issue but I think that is because I selected ignore at some point and said yes to continue. I'm not sure where that cache resides to delete that selection.

Remote Control With Multiple Computers In One Room

Sep 11, 2009

I've seen this somewhere, but I can't for the life of me find it again. There is a way of setting only certain remotes to work with certain PCs so they don't interfere with others. I have my HTPC and laptop in the same room, both with IR receivers - whenever I use the remote for my PC, the laptop ends up with all the signals too, and I come back to find it's playing a video or something.

Does anyone here know where that tutorial/registry setting is to change remote control channels?

Any Program That Allow Remote Desktop Control Access?

Aug 22, 2012

I am trying to have my computer the most secure as possible. I have a firewall, antivirus, anti-malware, etc. But I was wondering is it possible to have on your computer even with an anti-virus, a malicious program that allow Remote Desktop Control access (something like ProRat trojan or teamviewer)? Because I am suspecting that someone I know could had install/changed something on my computer. I know those suspicion might not be founded but in anyway I would like to understand how it work.

1. Is there any malicious application that allow Remote Desktop access that cannot be found by anti-virus? (I know it could be put in the list of exception on the anti-virus).
2. What can I do to be 100% sure that absolutely no one could access my computer (or just see my screen from their computer).

Finding IR Remote Control To Transmit Keyboard-combos?

Jun 3, 2012

where to find a reasonably priced IR remote that can be programmed to transmit any manner of standard Windows keyboard keystroke-combinations, I mean such standard combinations as as Ctrl-W to close a tab or window (as opposed to the global Alt-F4 command that closes the entire program), or Ctrl-+/- to increase/decrease the displayed font size in a window, or Alt-Tab to simply switch open windows?I have three identically programmed venerable Sony RM VM-700 IR learning remotes that am fairly in love with, situated in various corners of my abode for convenience, and want to program the above signals onto their buttons to be picked up by a standard USB IR receiver. Have found some cheap-enough remotes on Amazon that provide basic functionality such as mouse navigation and closing/opening windows (e.g., "PC Remote Controller", "Vista Remote Control"), but none have provided the needed versatility documented above. (They typically offer four colored "hot buttons" that allow for programmable launching of programs via a shortcut-"shortcut", but not programmable keystroke combinations.)

Am running a non-WMP-oriented Windows 7 HTPC on a large monitor, and routinely do things like browse google-news from a distance using the handheld Sony universal remotes to open/close/switch windows in a mobile manner from various locations without being chained to a keyboard & mouse. My need is to increase the Sony remotes' functionality to transmit whatever manner of keyboard-shortcut keystroke-combinations that may be desired. recommend a lower-end IR remote that provides such programmable functionality? The intent is to get said keysoke-combos programmed into that, then relay them onto the Sony learning remotes for daily use. Is a $100+ Logitech Harmony unit my only option? If so, which of their several models provides such Windows-keyboard programmability?

My question is, is it possible to disable the ctrl alt del functionality in Windows 7 so that that Blue security screen does not appear? Remote Start Of A Computer?

Nov 5, 2012

Is it possible to remotely power up a computer from another computer that is off site? What I would like to do is be able to access my home desktop computer (not built yet but will probably use Windows 7 Home Premium) from my notebook (Windows 7 Home Premium) when I'm away from home. I could leave the computer running (something I'm not not comfortable doing when I'm gone for more than a day) but we get occasional power outages that could shut down the computer. A UPS that could safely shut down the computer and, maybe restart it when power is restored (if they can do that) is not in my plans right now due to a lack of space and $$$ but I won't rule it out eventually.

No More Connections Can Be Made To This Remote Computer

Sep 30, 2011

I've got a networking problem that's left me banging my head against the wall. First though, this is a workgroup with the following machines:

Computer 1: Windows 7 32-bit used as a peer-to-peer file server, app and DB server, designated network browser, inbound VPN server (MS VPN)
Computer 2: Windows 7 64-bit used as a workstation
Computer 3: Windows 7 32-bit used as a workstation
Computer 4: Windows XP SP3 used as a workstation
Printer/AIO: Brother Laser, network-attached

Computers keep appearing and disappearing off the network except for the computer #1. In other words, on all the other machines, when you go into Windows Explorer and click on "Network", sometimes only one machine shows up; at other times, all machines show up. Mapped drives work without fail - it is just the network browsing that is unstable.

When only one computer is showing up in the list, if you issue the "net view" command, you get the message, "No more connections can be made to this remote computer at this time because there are already as many connections as the computer can accept." I'm not sure what is eating up all the available "connections". I thought that Windows 7 allows 20 network connections, i.e., 20 computers on a LAN.

I found a machine that was joined to a non-existent homegroup, and turned that all off, but it had no effect. I've temporarily turned off any firewall rules (F-Secure) that I thought may be interfering with this, but no effect. I've also looked at the lanmanserver registry keys and I'm not seeing anything other than stock settings.

Remote Desktop - Only Connects With IP Not Computer Name?

Jul 15, 2012

I recently got my remote desktop working in my home LAN, but I can ONLY connect to to my machine via its IP address. It refuses to connect through the actual computer-name as I would prefer to.

I'm assuming here that there is a possible issue with the IP is tied to the computer-name, aka some type of DNS issue. Keep in mind I am not trying to access my computer "globally" I am just trying to connect to via its computer name when I am at home and connected to my home LAN.
