Temp Folder Not Accessible?
Oct 26, 2011I have no idea what my mother has done but when I got the computer I started recieving all types of error messages and all pointed to the Temp folder. I also did a scan with Registry Easy and fixed all the new errors that appeared with this but all were fixed besides the Temp folder.
I searched and no one has given me a straight answer. I dont have the Windows 7 disc because I got this computer from a pawn. (nothing was wrong with it I know for a fact) Is there any other way to fix this besides restarting the entire pc. I know there is...

The problem is that other admins can take ownership of my folder and change permissions. What can I do? (Besides using specialized third party software).

Dec 2, 2009I have tried over and over to completely disable sharing over my home network of my personal documents folder (not the public folder) yet it still shows up and is fully accessible on any computer in the house. I have a password but that's not the point, I want to be able to make the my documents folder inaccessible completely from other computers on the network. It's disabled in the sharing properties but that makes no difference. Any ideas?

Jul 11, 2012I can access my files throguh Ubuntu. Back at windows, my options are less limited. I can't view the hard disk at all in Explorer, although it shows in Disk Manager. I can't make any changes to it. Trying to assign letters to it through command prompt returns errors. EaseUS partition manager also doesn't allow me to do anything with the partition I need. Partition recoverer returns an error when targeting this hard drive. I need the highlighted partition to be accessible through windows as it had programs installed on it and it's gone ahead and messed everything up.
I think one of the culprits, if not the culprit is the partition type, linux swap 0x82. However, when I try and change it, I get
"Message did not receive a reply (timeout by message bus)"

May 10, 2011Every time Microsoft updates Windows 7 it causes new problems on what's been a relatively stable Dell XPS8000. The latest update causes my DVD / CD drive (HL-DT-ST DVD+-RW GH50N ATA Device) to be inaccessible! By running System Restore I've brought it back from the 'bit-bucket', but I'd really like to update the OS without having the updates screw something up. Previous updates have caused printer problems; Mouse problems (both running on USB ports); etc.

Mar 6, 2012I have a notebook an Acer travelmate TM8372TG-5454G50Mnbb. Windows 7 only. When I try and access the C drive, it says " c: is not accessible Access is denied." When I try and open some other things like CCleaner and MalwareBytes, it says "Windows cannot access C:program files......Check the spelling or there might be a problem with your network....." I have managed to run MalwareBytes (nothing found) & Windows Reg Repair from a USB in safe mode, it didn't work.
I have also run a full scan with Avast (Now Avast doesnt work and is always in unprotected mode). I also noticed in safe mode there is a "repair your computer" option, I tried that and no success either. I have been able to system restore in safe mode but that didn't work either. (I couldn't restore in normal admin mode, it wouldn't let me). I can access the internet ok but cant seem to open anything that needs to run, picture and movie folders are all accessible (but not via the c: drive).

May 20, 2011I have a thumb drive that i formatted on my new laptop that has Windows XP. ANd i am trying to copies files from my old laptop and desktop that are using Windows. I can add files to my thumb drive on my Windows 7 laptop but when i try and use the thumb drive on any computer that has Windows XP is says the drive needs to be formatted and when i click format (on the windows XP computer) it says can't that i dont have permission. How can i format that drive so that i can use it on both operating systems?

Sep 18, 2012I have 2 PC's, both running Windows 7 Enterprise x86. The main PC has an internal drive and an external USB drive, both of which have shares a plenty. Until yesterday they worked fine. If I type \main-pc (from the main-pc) I can see all the shares but when I try and access them I get the message 'check the spelling of the name. Otherwise, there might be a problem with your network'. The network diagnostic wizard doesn't find a problem. If I type \192.168.72 , which is the main-pc ip, into the run line, it cannot access the workgroup browse list and comes back with the same message about checking the spelling. The second PC can access the main PC shares without any problem at all, including via Ip address. When I ping the netbios name I am returned a valid IP.
Here's what I have done so far:
- Reinstalled the network card, tried another network card.
- Reinstalled client for ms networks and file and printer sharing.
- Completely disabled IPV6 using the DisabledComponents reg fix.
- Ran NETSH resets on winsock and ip stack.
- Reerun the network wizard, renamed the workgroup, changed the PC name, fiddled with homegroup (enabling/disabling), removed security software, disabled the firewall, disabled firewall through policy, uninstalled all windows updates in the last week.
I've used the net view command and can confirm all workgroup services are running. If I type net view I can see my PC..but the problem isn't just accessing my PC, I get exactly the same problem now when I try and access the second PC, which works fine if your on it locally. It could be the server service which the browser service requires, I've paused it and my results don't change but not sure how to troubleshoot that. I've had a go at some reg fixes and modified some security polices but have since put it all back the way it was. Might be worth mentioning I have had a network bridge active between 2 network cards but has never been an issue. I've removed the bridge and tried in both cards separately as well.

Laptop1 can view and access the libraries on the Desktop. Laptop2 can see the libraries on the Desktop but can not access the folders. I'm not sure what to do here, I've triple checked that libraries are shared on the Home Group.
Windows 7 Has Wrong IP Address On Ping - XP Laptop Not Accessible By Name
Apr 30, 2012Have read and tried everything here to get my Windows 7 PC to access my XP laptop using its name. Have 3 machines. 1 PC ( ip 192.168.0.102) and 2 XP Laptops (say LXP1 and LXP2), one is ...104 the other, the troublesome one, is ...101. If I ping the machine name: ping LXP2. I get the ping returning with the ip address of the PC (...102). If I try to access LXP2 from Windows 7 PC, in Network in explorer - I am asked for the Password for the share. If I use the ip address 192.168.0.101 in the address bar at the top of explorer ( //192.168.0.101), the shares open and I can access the machine correctly.
Why does ping on the Windows 7 PC return the address of the LXP2 laptop as 102 (the PC's address) but the LXP2 laptop IS correctly configured to have an address of 101 and it open on the PC with this address. This looks to me to be the reason that when trying to open the machine name (LXP2) on the PC in Network in explorer, it fails and askes for a password. The other laptop works perfectly every time. And the 2 laptops can 'see' the shares and access them on the PC. Both laptops can see each others shares and can be accessed. Its 'just' the Windows 7 PC to LXP2 access that appears faulty. I tried disabling 'Network Discovery' and that did briefly work. But this morning - its back to its old self again, will only work when using the ip address...

Oct 2, 2012cannot access external HDDs connected via USB. The Device Manager shows a device. Under "Properties, Volume, polulate" it shows a zero capacity however. There is no letter (in "my computer") assigned to any drive I connect. Diskmanager does show it but as "not initialised". The attempt to initialise it returns "not ready".
PS: ALL HDDs do show in Kubuntu. So I'd exclude a hardware problem. HDDs are formatted in journalised ext3/4 as well as NTFS/FAT32. Should at least show FAT32/NTFS drives and partitions, shouldn't it?

May 2, 2011I got pop up in utorrent says a directoy is corrupt, I start to run chkdsk on that drive. in this case in have drive letter E.I click on computer, then go to the drive, right click, properties, tools, check now.
it says the drive is need to to forced to dismount. I click on ok. then in computers, the drive just show the letter, not size or disk meter. In the open windows on task bar, I did not see scan disk running, or maybe I accidently closed because I was switching between several programs. I thought restart pc the drive will show again, but after restart, the drive does not show up, it says 'E: is not accessible, the file or directory is corrupted and unreadabe.' Administrator Account Not Accessible
May 6, 2012My Windows7 suddenly displayed a default desktop. I then did an unsuccessful system restore, tried the undo and got stuck. From there on, when I want to log in I end up at the error message "The user profile service failed the logon. User profile cannot be loaded". I tried to activate the administrator account by using "net user administrator /active:yes". The command executes, but administrator never shows up on the login screen. I cannot start Windows 7 in safe mode. A few seconds after the safe mode login screen appears the computer restarts automatically. No administrator account is listed here either.
