I have tried over and over to completely disable sharing over my home network of my personal documents folder (not the public folder) yet it still shows up and is fully accessible on any computer in the house. I have a password but that's not the point, I want to be able to make the my documents folder inaccessible completely from other computers on the network. It's disabled in the sharing properties but that makes no difference. Any ideas?

There are loads of other folders like this. Too many to list here.

A while ago my computer froze up and I couldnt do anything, so I had to restart it. When it came back up my D drive wasn't accesible. If i try to open it it says I need to format it to use it. If I click cancel it says
D: is not accessible.
The volume does not contain a recognized file system. make sure that all required file system drivers are loaded and that the volume is not corrupted.
If i click format it says
Windows was unable to complete the format.

cannot access external HDDs connected via USB. The Device Manager shows a device. Under "Properties, Volume, polulate" it shows a zero capacity however. There is no letter (in "my computer") assigned to any drive I connect. Diskmanager does show it but as "not initialised". The attempt to initialise it returns "not ready".
PS: ALL HDDs do show in Kubuntu. So I'd exclude a hardware problem. HDDs are formatted in journalised ext3/4 as well as NTFS/FAT32. Should at least show FAT32/NTFS drives and partitions, shouldn't it?

I have no idea what my mother has done but when I got the computer I started recieving all types of error messages and all pointed to the Temp folder. I also did a scan with Registry Easy and fixed all the new errors that appeared with this but all were fixed besides the Temp folder.
I searched and no one has given me a straight answer. I dont have the Windows 7 disc because I got this computer from a pawn. (nothing was wrong with it I know for a fact) Is there any other way to fix this besides restarting the entire pc. I know there is...
the Temp folder has crippled nearly 45% of my pc. I have work to finish up and this is killing me

Here is what is going on. I plug in the MP3 player, does not matter which port, and when I go to "My Computer" to click on the drive to get the music files it comes up with error message "G: is not accessible. Access denied."
I have tried going to properties and configuring security options, but there is nothing with "security" or related to that. I am already logged in as Admin, there is also no "run as admin" either.

I got pop up in utorrent says a directoy is corrupt, I start to run chkdsk on that drive. in this case in have drive letter E.I click on computer, then go to the drive, right click, properties, tools, check now.
it says the drive is need to to forced to dismount. I click on ok. then in computers, the drive just show the letter, not size or disk meter. In the open windows on task bar, I did not see scan disk running, or maybe I accidently closed because I was switching between several programs. I thought restart pc the drive will show again, but after restart, the drive does not show up, it says 'E: is not accessible, the file or directory is corrupted and unreadabe.' I tried to start pc 2 times, still same.

My Windows7 suddenly displayed a default desktop. I then did an unsuccessful system restore, tried the undo and got stuck. From there on, when I want to log in I end up at the error message "The user profile service failed the logon. User profile cannot be loaded". I tried to activate the administrator account by using "net user administrator /active:yes". The command executes, but administrator never shows up on the login screen. I cannot start Windows 7 in safe mode. A few seconds after the safe mode login screen appears the computer restarts automatically. No administrator account is listed here either.

Mom bought a Win 7 puter so that my 15 year old grandson, who lives with them, could use it for school work, and play games. She uses it a little to email, IM, and play card games. Mom and dad are in their 70s and don't know anything about puters. They barely know how to use a remote control on a cable box. My grandson began downloading games that install BHOs, toolbars, plugins, etc that slow the machine down till it hangs frequently. I took it, created an admin account, cleaned off a billion toolbars, BHOs and unwanted games, and their tracking cookies, some Trojans, and viruses, and the machine began to respond again, but as soon as he gets hold of it, he accesses the User's Control Panel and lowers my privileges, so that I can't function as an administrator on mom's puter. This upsets the rest of us. He says he has to have admin privileges to install and play his games, and, that I keep messing up his stuff.
I've tried creating an admin account and hiding it from the logon screen, and the User's Control Panel, but that also makes it so I can't logon, not even in safe mode. Seems MS made Win 7 so that if there is just one admin account activated it sees no need for any other admin accounts to display in Safe Mode. I tried the following, "Hide the Admin Account" hack, but Win 7 would not allow me to logon, since I found no way to activate a logon run dialog, nor could I use Safe Mode, cause with His admin account visible, my admin account isn't, not even in Safe Mode.I noticed a thread entitled: Hidden Administrator Account? on this forum, which led me to ask you about this. I'm a "slightly" above average user, so be gentle.I need something hidden from him, even in the User's Control Panel, so that I can maintain this puter and put a stop to his ability to lower my privileges. Any suggestions, other than lowered privileges?Instructions to Hide the Admin Account from the Default Login Screen:You can hide accounts the same way you did in XP, but in Vista and Win 7 you need to create those registry keys.
1.In regedit, navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindows NTCurrentVersionWinlogon.
2.Right click Winlogon and select New / Key.
3.Name the new key SpecialAccounts (case sensitive).
4.Right click The SpecialAccounts key and select New Key again.
5.Name the key UserList.
6.Click the UserList key and in the right side window right click and select New / DWord (32bit) Value.
7.Name the new DWord value with the same name as the account you wish to hide. Double click this value and in the Value Data line enter 0 (zero) to hide the account or 1 to show the account.

I can access my files throguh Ubuntu. Back at windows, my options are less limited. I can't view the hard disk at all in Explorer, although it shows in Disk Manager. I can't make any changes to it. Trying to assign letters to it through command prompt returns errors. EaseUS partition manager also doesn't allow me to do anything with the partition I need. Partition recoverer returns an error when targeting this hard drive. I need the highlighted partition to be accessible through windows as it had programs installed on it and it's gone ahead and messed everything up.
I think one of the culprits, if not the culprit is the partition type, linux swap 0x82. However, when I try and change it, I get

I am having an issue with a current update for Windows-7, my desktop became a default and i cannot load my old one. i found a solution that tells me i need to go to windowssystem32configsystemprofiledesktop and delete the default desktop and restart pc which should put everything back to normal. The problem is, is that my UAC administrator is shut down, i've tryed many ways to turn it off, but nothing allows me to, because anything that has anything to do with Administrator privilege it will only deny and block my actions, it is not a virus. on this website i found that solution, but how do i bypass Administrator privilege?Anything like a computer restore, anything that asks the administrator privilege Alot of things say : The Dependency Service or group failed to start when i click on System Restore.

[pc name] not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. The specified server cannot perform the requested operation.Lately we have had problems with all Windows XP pcs not being able to access all the shared folders on one Windows 7 pc on the lan.It is intermittent. I cannot think of what has changed recently. It is temporarily fixed by a reboot of the Win7 pc, but since it is a server in an office environment, this can be difficult to do middle of the day.Turning firewall software off on host and client has no effect.Network sharing profiles are never changed as issue comes and goes.Unsharing a folder, and resharing it has no effect. The Win7 pc does show up as a networked computer and all are in the same workgroup. All Windows 7 pcs on the lan can access the shared folders when all the XP pcs cannot.Another Win7 pc on the lan is nearly an identical hardware build with same firewall and never has a problem.
Network sharing options for current profile:
network discovery: on
file printer sharing: on
public folder sharing: on
media streaming: on
file sharing connections: 40-56 bit encryption
password protected sharing: off\
[code]....

When I booted up my laptop my desktop lost all its icons and a dialog box popped up saying:Location is not availableC:Users<Username>Desktop is not accessible. The directory name is invalid.I went to the C:Users<Username> directory and saw that my Desktop folder became a file...When I try to open the Desktop.. the open with dialog box came out. I tried creating a new folder with the same name (Desktop) and Windows says that a folder with the same name already exists. However when I right click on it and tried going to properties, then the Previous Versions tab.. I can actually recover my old files (1 week ago.. but I still need the current ones and of course use my desktop as well). How can I fix this T_T.

I began having BSOD's on my PC, after a significant amount of work, I made the decision to repair the files through Windows 7 with the option to retain my files and setting vs. a clean install. I subsequently realized that the problem that was likely causing the BSOD was an incorrectly seated video card (I currently have two GTX-295's).That being said, with the reinstall the original administrator's account is no longer accessible. I've got the folder on the C: drive where I'd hope to be able to reactivate it and therefore retain all the previously installed programs rather than having to reinstall everything.Any thoughts on how I might be able to get the current version of Windows 7 to "see" this User Account and as such avoid the reinstall of everything?

Every time Microsoft updates Windows 7 it causes new problems on what's been a relatively stable Dell XPS8000. The latest update causes my DVD / CD drive (HL-DT-ST DVD+-RW GH50N ATA Device) to be inaccessible! By running System Restore I've brought it back from the 'bit-bucket', but I'd really like to update the OS without having the updates screw something up. Previous updates have caused printer problems; Mouse problems (both running on USB ports); etc.

I am running Windows 7 Pro (64). I have 2 hard drives installed. The (C) keeps my system and program files. A second 1GB hard drive is used for back-ups, pictures, music, etc. I checked and recked all permissions, and they are in order. There is only one user on the computer, Admin. I was able to access the drive up until a few weeks ago. I am able to scan the drive with Microsoft Security Essentials. I am able to access the drive while in safe mode, but for some reason I get this message while attempting to access it while in normal mode.
Location is not available
F: is not accessible
Access Denied

I've had a new problem on my 7077 installation.
Although my pc is running fine, when I try to click on my c drive, it says that it's not accessible.
There is therefore no information shown for it in terms of size, or or free space.
Even when logging in as an administrator, I cannot access it.
EDIT - I cannot even access my DVD drive, although I can access my D partition...
All was working fine until earlier this morning - and no, I haven't visited any 'dubious' sites recently, Any advice would be greatfully received!
