I am using a cuom windows 7 theme that uses my preferred combination of window color choices etc.However, this color scheme does become an inconvenience when I am working in certain applications like Autodesk and Photoshop as it makes their respective UI's very obscure.
View 1 RepliesI am trying to access the 'personalization' settings on my desktop, but when I click it, an error message comes up saying "server threw an exception" and I cannot access it. It was working fine a few days ago but now its not. Anyone know how to fix this? I have not installed or uninstalled anything recently.
View 1 Replies View RelatedThis all started whenever I wanted to change my text size different by changing my DPI settings. What I did was right click, go to screen resolution, and clicked on "Make text and other items larger or smaller". From this I changed it to 100% from 125%. I noticed it had changed my font size to the 100%. It then made everything SUPER small when I changed my theme settings.Whenever I right click and go into personalization settings, I do the usual customizing to my likings. Since I want to save the theme, I do so by naming it, blah. Now I want to use the blah theme by click on it, and I do so. Everything is fine and dandy until I right click my desktop to refresh(out of habit). This is the before and after of the font sizes.

My workaround was to set a custom DPI setting, log off like it prompts me to, then changing it back to 100%, again prompting to do so. It is so annoying to do so.
I know that I can lower UAC settings in Windows 7 or even disable them completely but I don't want to do that.What I am looking for is a way to make only one or two programs not go through UAC. Is this possible?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI noticed in my Event Viewer that I have literally THOUSANDS of errors with source listed as DistributedCOM and event ID 10016. It logs an error event about 4 times per minute on this.
General info tab says:

Just thought I'd report a strange bug with my setup,
The personalization screen does not update when I change things.
If I apply a Themepack the relevant items are updated but if I then change one of the items such as the sounds the change is made but the screen still shows the original scheme item
Will send feedback to Microsoft but was just wondering if anyone else had seen this issue?
This laptop is my second computer I've had with Windows 7 Home Premium. I have one user as the Administrator, which is me, and a second user which is my wife. Her account is a Standard Account.On my previous computer I had the exact same setup for the two accounts. I like to use a different (higher) resolution then she does. She doesn't like the smaller icons, windows, lettering, etc. We could log in on her side and set her resolution, etc. to whatever and it worked okay. However, on this new computer when logged in on her account when we change the resolution it also changes my user side to the same as hers. When I log into my account and change mine to what I want it changes hers.On the old computer it worked the way it suppose to, each account could be changed and it would stay that way without effecting the other.

I can't restore it.this message so far only occur when I click 'Screen Resolution' and 'Personalization' from desktop. but then, some click-able thing became unresponsive, such as the dialog box from IDM, when I clicked 'open in folder' it would usually open, but now it's not. and when I tried to create a new user, I can't. I click the button but it just not working.

I restored an Acronis full back up that I had done just a few hours earlier but it didn't change anything.My techie tried to tell me I had viruses (but they were just screen saver files with weird names) and still he couldn't fix it.Trying to reinstall from my upgrade CD (I had Vista before) doesn't work as it reports that it found errors but can't correct them. Techie wants to do a complete RE&RE and I don't want that.
View 3 Replies View RelatedOur office has an old program that we still need to use when upgrading our PC's to Windows 7. The program will run fine if you start a windows virtual PC and install and run it. However, based on the needs of our office, I need to be able to run Windows XP mode and simply have an icon for our users to click to take them to the application.If I install the program in windows XP mode, and then add a shortcut to the file under all users/start menu, a shortcut is placed in the appropriate place on the windows 7 machine and I can copy that shortcut ot the desktop. The program runs fine until you restart the computer. Once you restart the computer and double click the link on the windows 7 desktop to the program running in windows XP mode, it says:
Cannot start virtual application. The application is blocked from running as a virtual application.
I read some other posts saying to put a new shortcut in the all users/start menu folder. This works, but only until our users restart their computer. The next time the computer is up, the problem happens again. This is not an acceptable solution to have to create a new shortcut for each workstation each time the computer is restarted.
The error states:explorer.exe - application error The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000022). Click OK to close the application.When I click OK, i just have a black screen. I can get the task manager going by hitting control, alt, delete. I've tried to start explorer.exe from the file menu, but get the same error.

I am deathly afraid to turn off my computer because my brother recently did and that caused it to freeze at the blue HP startup screen, but thats another thread. I get this error whenever I launch anything. I can't even open up the task manager. I really need help. I don't currently have a way to back up my stuff either but I am working on it. By the way, I don't know that my brother was having the same error message as i was or if he was having any error messages. I use zone alarm full security suite if that helps at all, I don't know if it deleted a registry file or something.

I don't what happened but all of a sudden a message box opens up on my windows 7 laptop and it says this " the application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000142). Click OK to close the application" . I clicked ok but the error message box keeps returning back.If i remember properly, this happened when I tried installing some wallpaper.system seems to be working finw with all applications, but this message box is quite annoying.

Yesterday I'd installed an update for ZoneAlarm which I thought was probably the problem, so I uninstalled in and downloaded and installed PC Tools Firewall Plus instead. no my computer will connect to the Internet OK, but whenever I try to open most programs, I get the following error:"The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000142). View 5 Replies View RelatedNow, just 3 days ago It started the BSOD issue.I realize that my GPU was the cause of this issue. When playing games or open 3d applications the temp goes 30C to 72C (In 15 seconds) then 82C - 85C constant (in about 30 seconds).Now I've been using MSI afterburner to check my temps and at fulload my GPU will be at 62-72C max temperature but now it's 10C even higher then before. No, I haven't fiddled with the voltage I set the GPU voltage to 1.037v which is the safest (been running this almost 8 months!). The GPU is the GTX 560ti.Is there a way to set the GPU on default settings or reset GPU settings in cmd or other professional way. I have uninstalled the drivers, uninstalling GPU, disabled GPU, disabled PCI-E slot and so on by using device manager and the issue still persist. Yes, I also have clean the GPU perfectly and still the temperature goes up to 82 seconds at 30seconds-45seconds. Yes, I have checked everything is set correctly and so on, I am a PC Tech.
Is the GPU damaged? Yes I have looked at this thread: Stop 0x124 - what it means and what to try Mainly, I know its the GPU straight away, I tried checking old drivers, new drivers, another GPU overclocked software such as GPU tweak and EVGA Precision. I am thinking it's the GPU is damaged or the PCI-E is damaged (I have another PCI-E slot on my system and the issue still there). It might be the PCI-E frequency? but it's set to 100 which it meant to be, I just hope is software related because I don't have the money to buy a new card. Did the dump files help?

The current policy is to have the Windows 7 UAC turned to 'Never Notify' as the logon script needs to make changes to registry, etc. The program will only work with Windows 7 if the UAC is turned on.
