I need to run a program from a server in a mixed Windows XP and Windows 7 environment. The current policy is to have the Windows 7 UAC turned to 'Never Notify' as the logon script needs to make changes to registry, etc. The program will only work with Windows 7 if the UAC is turned on. Is there a way of activating the UAC for this one program only?
View 4 RepliesOur office has an old program that we still need to use when upgrading our PC's to Windows 7. The program will run fine if you start a windows virtual PC and install and run it. However, based on the needs of our office, I need to be able to run Windows XP mode and simply have an icon for our users to click to take them to the application.If I install the program in windows XP mode, and then add a shortcut to the file under all users/start menu, a shortcut is placed in the appropriate place on the windows 7 machine and I can copy that shortcut ot the desktop. The program runs fine until you restart the computer. Once you restart the computer and double click the link on the windows 7 desktop to the program running in windows XP mode, it says:
Cannot start virtual application. The application is blocked from running as a virtual application.
I read some other posts saying to put a new shortcut in the all users/start menu folder. This works, but only until our users restart their computer. The next time the computer is up, the problem happens again. This is not an acceptable solution to have to create a new shortcut for each workstation each time the computer is restarted.
The error states:explorer.exe - application error The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000022). Click OK to close the application.When I click OK, i just have a black screen. I can get the task manager going by hitting control, alt, delete. I've tried to start explorer.exe from the file menu, but get the same error.

I don't what happened but all of a sudden a message box opens up on my windows 7 laptop and it says this " the application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000142). Click OK to close the application" . I clicked ok but the error message box keeps returning back.If i remember properly, this happened when I tried installing some wallpaper.system seems to be working finw with all applications, but this message box is quite annoying.

Ive looked through all the options in the application and there is not one to make it not be on top of all other windows. Generally I never do task/application switching using windows but I recently installed a wacom pen tablet and one of the shortcut keys on the tablet was programmed to switch to various applications... BUT IT DID IT IN A WAY I HAVE NOT FOUND IN Windows 7 YET!
Usually Alt+Tab gives you the generic windows task switcher that shows all the icons of the various apps you have open.
But the pen tablet used an app switcher that did this..

I have an ASUS N61Jv, running Windows 7 Professional 64bit (legal, pre-installed). The built in webcam is suddenly not functioning anymore. I can't recall changing anything, so I'm not sure why this is happening. When opening the cam in skype, windows live messenger, or lifeframe3, it keeps saying that the cam is in use by another application. I've reinstalled the driver, but to no avail. I have also reinstalled the software programs.

I have had this strange problem for a few weeks now and so far I can't figure out a solution or why it happens.
When closing an application, the application's service (in the Windows Task Manager) doesn't end with the closing of the application like it should. This is happening with 95% of my applications.
One of my application icons (3DS Max 2012) has gone generic. This is true for the original application and its shortcut. Double clicking still opens the app; I just wonder why this is happening? (Let me stress that I'm talking about the App.exe itself, and not the files created by the program.)
