Jul 29, 2012When I try to save my Answer File that I've created for my Windows 7 PC I press on Tools and then on Validate Answer File, it give me in the sector Validation a lot of errors.In my book (MCTS 70 - 680), they say that I need to change my settings.Now is my question: How and which settings do I need to change?I tried to edit it, but still I get the same Status Code.

Nov 11, 2011I originally backed up my System & User files using the Backup utility in Tools to a slave drive. That drive was full so I purchased a larger capacity drive and installed it in place of the original slave drive.
I copied over my data but have been unable to copy the file original "Backup" file (shows "0" bytes & empty) I created.
I also had a "WindowsImageBackup" folder (160GB) that had folders and files in it that I have also not been able to copy to the new slave drive.
I am saving my old "Slave" drive so I assume I can use it to restore my original image I created, eyh?
Moving Default User Directories
Aug 11, 2011I was moving the default storage directories from c:users... to the root of D: when I fubared with the desktop one.I pointed it at the root of D: instead of D:Desktop and now I have everything in D:oot on my desktop.

Jan 2, 2012The problem I am having is that new computers (direct from manufacturer) are not processing the answer file correctly I have the file set to delete the partitions and build new ones but it does not do so. What I have to do is manually delete the existing partitions that come loaded and once I have done that I reboot and then my partitions prepare correctly. How can I make this work so that it deletes and builds the partitions correctly.

Windows Cannot Parse The Unattend Answer File's <DiskConfiguration>
Jul 20, 2011I'm trying to do a clean install of Windows 7 Ultimate on a Sony Vaio AR41s via a DVD that I burned (slowest speed, was very careful about that) but upon starting the installation I get the error message: Windows cannot parse the unattend answer file's <DiskConfiguration> setting After closing this dialog box the laptop reboots and starts the process from scratch.The Vaio has nothing on it as far as I'm aware (No OS found etc...) so I'm pretty sure this is as clean a install as I could do.
Here's the specs of the AR41s:
CPU - Intel Core 2 Duo T7500 @ 2.2 GHz
Cache Memory - 4 MB - L2 Cache
RAM - DDR II SDRAM - 667 MHz - PC2-5300 ( 2 x 1 GB )
HDD - 2x 160 GB - Serial ATA-150 @ 5400 rpm
Optical Storage - BD-RE
GPU - NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT - 256 MB
OS - N/A
Running the 2x160GB HDDs in RAID 0 configuration. I tried de-RAID'ing the HDDs to see if that was the problem but I get the same result.

Dec 30, 2012I am trying to move user directories when doing a clean install of windows Pro. During the OOBE boot, I get this error:
Windows could not parse or process unattend answer file [C:WindowsPantherunattend.xml] for pass [oobe]. The setting specified in the error file cannot be applied. The error was detected while processing settings for component [Microsoft-Windows-Shell-Setup].

Moving C Drive Directories And Files After Re-installing?
Jan 6, 2013I've just re-installed Windows 7 64bit and am moving some files onto my "Programs and Data" hard drive. With the previous install I have moved a number of the Win 7 files onto the this HDD, and I want to do the same now. Since that drive now contains my previous copies of the these directories and files, and I want to keep them, how can I merge the contents. Is it as simple as copying what new content I want from the C drive, changing the location of the USER files in Windows to the HDD, then deleting what is on the C drive?

1)As I want to make a dual boot install with a Linux distribution I thinking about the Partitioning. I want to make following Partitions: [code] Windows 7 also always creates this small 100MB system restore partition. So what would be the best way to prepare these Partions. I would use GParted Live CD to create the Partition in advance, that everything is the way I like it. But I'm not sure if this works without problems for the 100 MB system restore partition (lasts time I got 2 100 MB partitions)
2) I want to move the Users data to a separate partition and found this guides: User Profiles - Create and Move During Windows 7 Installation [2]=User%20Accounts User Folders - Change Default Location(Don't know which one I chose to do so till now) But I see in Windows 7 there are much more useless directories in the users home directory:I've already learned the new Library system, but I still want to use the Users directory. But there is a great mess. Is there a useful/possible way to prevent the directory to mess up with all the sub directories, often created by some apps, don't really using the directory. Or are you just ignore the users home directory? Usually I got about 5 to 8 sub-directories in each Directory for a tidy system to find everything and have a good ordered system.
In Certain Directories File Seem To Disappear
Sep 28, 2010Running Windows 7 and in certain directories file seem to disappear. Most of the disappeared are pdfs or web pages. Though the files do not show up in Windows Explorer, if I try to restore the files by copying from my back-up drive, it tells me they already exist. Also, if I start Adobe Reader and try to open files in the supposedly empty directory, all of the missing pdfs show up.

Apr 17, 2011a few months back, I use windows update to install a windows update. After, some strange things have hapend. When I booted my computer on, my monitor went into powersave mode and wouldent come out of it, so I switched the port and it worked fine. I then went to play minecraft, I noticed it was very laggy. I checked my system score and it has dropped by 1.1 points for some reason. I tried to use recovery to roll back the update but it didnt make a difference, so I tried to re-install the OS. I went to control pannel -> Recovery -> advance recovery methods and reinstall windows. It restarted, and once it restarted and boots into the part when I am reintalling the OS it it gives an error:"The unattended answer file contains an invalid product key. Either remove the invalid key or provide a valid product key in the unattended answer file to proceed with this windows installation."What I have tried:
Re entering the product key
Try to install it many times
reinstalling drivers
using recovery

Jan 15, 2013I downloaded an ATI Graphics driver from the sony website then when I launched the installer, it says: "checking system information.." then after that something will pop up saying "an I/o error occurred while installing a file. Aug 6, 2011I have a PC with windows vista installed. I recently bought windows 7 home premium and installed a fresh copy of it. Every time I download some software like Chrome, VLC, iTunes , it downloads fine, but when it has to install it gives strange errors. I have seen all kinds of errors.
E.g.: VLC gives NSIS error.
Microsoft Security Essentials gives "File Corrupt Error".
Got certificate invalid error for some other software. if I download zip files, they fail with CRC check.
Just to be sure it wasn't hardware issue, I installed vista as a second OS and that works fine. I am really uncertain what is causing the issue (seems network related though). I had an old router and just purchased a new linksys router. Other configurations are: Core 2 Quad, EVGA SLI ready motherboard, 4GB DDR2 ram, ASUS EN210 gphx card.
Can't Move User Folders
Aug 11, 2011I have a main folder named after the user acct (I believe it's called the User Folder???), which by default contains 13 other folders, such as My Documents, My Pictures, etc. (There are a bunch of hidden folders in there as well)I'm using some file backup software that has a plug-in to backup the entire My Documents folder. In XP, I simply moved any desired folders into My Documents for backup.What I've found in Windows 7, is these "user" folders seem to be locked in this main folder, and when moved into My Documents, the original folder magically reappears in the main user folder. So I end up with 2 identical folders. One inside My Documents, and one in the main user folder. (eg: My Music)My backup software doesn't like this at all.Is there any way to make these folders behave like regular folders that can just be moved around?

Aug 13, 2010I have just upgraded from Vista where we had two user account profiles on the D partition, as I recall, Vista prompted me to set it up this way initially. I got used to using this method, as my single hdd is divided into two partitions, C for the OS and D for Data. I did a new clean install of Windows 7 into a C partition which is I think 100GB is size, and there is a D partition which is empty and is around 400GB.I have been reading how to move the user profiles to the D drive but it seems too confusing (at least more confusing than in Vista). So I thought about maybe using the library feature if that is what MS has intended it to be used for.But it looks like the C drive would still continue to be used for user data. IF that is so, what I am supposed to fill the D drive with, or how am I to fill itI would like to begin migrating my iTunes back from my external hdd, and want to be sure to put it in the right place, but with at least 45GB of media there alone, the C drive will quickly fill up.

Mar 11, 2012I'm not sure if this may be more of a vmware issue, but I figured I'd start here. Basically I have a 56gig vmdk file, that refuses to move. The vm is not broken at all and works fine. I've moved several vm's off my laptop drive onto this new usb drive. I'm working with an alienware m11x r3 with a 750gb 7200rpm drive & a usb 3.0 wd my passport external drive that IS using drive compression. (blue text for file/folder names) I've tried to move this file via explorer and tera copy. both fail. in the explorer scenario, I've burnt at least the weekend attempting to get this file off my drive. in a few cases it gets down to just a smidgen of space in the transfer progress bar with a 'theoretical hour remaining', but that was 10 hours ago. when I'd look in resource manager,it starts off in a normal read from c drive and write to d drive action. but at the end, it is just writing, and its moving at like 700kb a sec.
