I need an email server to replace Outlook express. In OEI could format the background with sounds, stationary, and graphics. What email program will do that and work with Windows 7? I have downloaded Thunderbird, Pegasus, eM Mail, and have searched through Microsoft Outlook and cannot find anything which will allow formatting the email.

I have a number of Windows 7 laptops that have to have automatic timeouts that lock the screen. However, when the screen locks, I no longer am able to hear the Windows 7 email notification sound from outlook when exchange sends it a message and have no notification of new emails. Is there a way to force Windows 7 to display this information. I know it is possible in Windows 8, but I can't find anything on Windows 7.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a new HP pavilion pc with windows 7. I set up (I think) Windows Live Mail and I do receive e-mails. The problem is when I go to Windows Live Mail, I get a screen that distorts my background and the email headers are a bright blue with white letters that I can't read. when I x-out of mail the screen goes black and then restores to the normal background.

P.S It seems as though it's nothing to do with the email client.
We are a small company with 15 users and we have been blacklisted in several sites for sending spam, everytime we ask for removal, they do, but after few days, we are there again. Cash flow in the company is really tight, we can not afford to pay a tech guy!

This software needs to be able to send out reports via e-mail, but it is still in its early phase and doesn't have e-mail support built in.Are there any programs that allow sending of email in the background? View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a user who is using Outlook 2010, and intermittently recieves the error "Cannot open default email folders. Server is not available." When she receives this error, outlook closes.She is connecting to a POP3 account online, everything checks out in the "mail" settings in the control panel. Her .pst files aren't too big.I've tried a repair install, an uninstall followed by a fresh install, and updating to SP1 for Office 2010. Nothing seems to be helping, it is hit and miss when it does it, which makes it that much harder to troubleshoot.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI just baught a HP Pavilion dv6 laptop with Windows 7 and am connected to the internet via my wireless remote. I can surf the net so I know I'm connected. I am supposed to have my email set up so that what I receive in my inbox on my desktop also shows up in my inbox on the laptop. I can send and receive fine on the desktop (Windows XP & Outlook Express), but when I try to send and receive mail in Windows Live on the laptop, I get this error messaage:

When we receive emails from our server email addresses are in plain text and are not clickable. It is ok from other sources.

I used bcdedit to delete the boot entry for Server 2008, and now I'd like to remove the install of Server 2008 and reformat the drive. However, I am not able to delete the volume or format the c drive.
My computer has "No sounds" as the Control Panel/Sounds choice. It still makes a "boing" noise at odd times happens as well. Neither of these sounds are among the Windows Media .wav sounds. I did a search for .wav and listened to every .wav on my computer. The boing isn't one of them. Anyone else have this problem?

View 7 Replies View RelatedHave been a LONG LONG user of Linux as a server (hosting VM's XP / Windows 7 mix) and file / print sharing.
I used to avoid MS like the plague as far as SERVER environments are concerned - probably because my first experince was Windows NT (Windows NeanderThal or Windows No Thanks) which was SO HORRIBLE that it put me off Windows servers for ages.
(Note I'm using a server in a HOME environment where we have around 8 machines (most of which are actually mine for testing -- not a corporate environment which has other considerations).
The problem now with the latest Linux distros that they are trying to be "A Better Windows than Windows". You can of course customize them but I haven't got the time or patience to do this any more. To select what packages to install / leave out now is a 100% pain and if you do it wrong the chances are the system will give errors.
I've looked at the new SUSE 11.2 -- slick and polished - bit I don't NEED "an alternative Windows".
I've just been looking at Windows Server 2008 R2 (got it from Technet) and I'm REALLY IMPRESSED with it so far. I've installed the STANDARD version - you don't need datacenter or Enterprise version for a home server.
It runs vmware server on it just fine (although I might go the whole hog and use the Hyper-V virtualisation -- need to do a bit more research).
I'm quite happy letting MS do the updates than having to mess around with Kernel compiles etc.
Incidentally as a HOME server there are some considerations that you might want to do to make it more like a Desktop OS than a pure server for example add multi-media to it.

Windows 7 VM's run just fine on W2008 server (they should as there is a lot of common code).
If I use a commercial software like Drive Scrubber to clean my HD, will a Win 7 Upgrade Discboot ? I want to eliminate any possible virus/malware. Is there any advantage to using commercial software to format, or is the reinstall format listed in the tutorials as effective? My concern is that Kaspersky Internet Security 2012 (KIS) had corrupted data bases and after removal and reinstallation did not perform well. I could not download anything, e.g. CCleaner and received Certificate Error questions on certain websites. Also, I would like a fresh registry to insure previous programs like Chrome, Firefox, KIS, remnants are eliminated.

In XP and using Opera browser, if I clicked on an web page's email link, my email client (Sylpheed) would open with the address inserted. With Win 7 and the email defaults set, it won't. Instead, it always returns an "Internal communication error" page (example link: Contact Us | PCWorld). Below are screenshots of my Win 7 email defaults and Opera preferences setting. One thing I'm not sure about, if it's at all relevant, is where Opera is picking up the default application from. In XP, it picked up Opera email as the default. The Other Application file location shown is exactly the same in both, except for the drive letter.

Activesync works perfectly on my phone so that portion of the network is open at my work. I have been doing some reaserch and in order to get Outlook to sync with Exchange Server without VPN, RPC over HTTP or Outlook Anywhere must be enabled on the network. I know for a fact that our IT department have that portion disabled.

It seems when the HD starts working extra hard, I hear this "ding, ding, ding". One about every second as long as the HD is working hard.
