View 1 RepliesI recently did a system restore on my laptop... HP 625. Windows 7.Then I logged in as normal and I've somehow lost the Personalise option on the desktop drop down menu.I can't even go into pictures and set a background. Also, the Windows 7 theme has completely disappeared and it's changed to a windows classic theme? I had to do the system restore because it wouldn't log in, even though the password was correct. It interrupts with the internet speed and looks plain freaking ugly.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have two pictures that I use for my desktop background which I set to change every 12 hours; I do this via the Personalization > Desktop Background (Slide Show). As far as I can tell, it changes my background at 1pm and 1am everyday. But what I want to do is to choose the time it changes, e.g., 8pm and 8am. Does anyone know if this is possible?

View 1 Replies View RelatedIf I do the original size than it is way too overblown, but when I do fit to size (or whatever you call them) it has two black bars on flanking on the sides, so i want to fix that with tiles. But if I do tiles it shows them at original size which is overblown.

What email program will do that and work with Windows 7? I have downloaded Thunderbird, Pegasus, eM Mail, and have searched through Microsoft Outlook and cannot find anything which will allow formatting the email.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI want to know if i can remove the power button from the bottom of the welcome/locked screen as my lovely 2 year old keeps turning my PC off it its lock or on the welcome screen, I have a lockable door on my PC case so he can't get at that power button so this is the only thing we can think is its the power button on the welcome screen.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI've never been a fan of the login welcome screen that was implemented in windows XP, however back then I could disable it to have the more classic login screen where you just type in username and password.
I can't find any option like this on Windows 7, seems impossible to change the login method, but at the same kind it can't possibly be impossible. That would render Windows 7 useless for any larger workplaces where you're connected to servers with hundreds of usernames. So anyone know how to do it?
I have just installed windows 7. The process was seamless, but the second I got to the desktop, a problem began. Intermittently, the screen will go black and windows logo desktop wallpaper will appear on the screen. After a few seconds the desktop reappears. The computer is fully functional when not freezed up with the wallpaper, so all drivers are up to date, and I have sp1.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently got a new Lenovo computer back in January and it came with a trial version of McAfee Anti-Virus Plus. Free trial ended and now it wants me to pay for it, but with all the free anti-virus software like AVG I do not want to. I tried downloading AVG but it would not work resulting in an error saying it couldn't as long as McAfee was installed on the computer. So I go to add/remove programs and uninstalled McAfee. I restart the computer as instructed and BAM! Blue Screen of Death upon trying to start up. I could only get the computer to work by going into Safe Mode (Safe Mode with networking wouldn't even work) and performed restore to an earlier date and things seem to be okay now. But I am stuck with my new "friend" McAfee. So I guess the question(s) is how do I get rid of McAfee so I can get other anti-virus software without a blue screen of death? And is this a known issue of McAfee screwing your computer up when trying to get rid of it and it's ugly tentacles? Needless to say, I am not a fan of them right now.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm in a bit of a dilemma, and I can't necessarily work around this. On most of my systems, I have two users. One of them is the user, and the other is anadministrative account that I never login to unless I absolutely have to. I've also done the same on some PC's I've worked on for friends, etc. So yes, each UAC prompt asks me for a password of my administrator account. And that doesn't bother me .Now, here's the thing where I'm going. I want to be able to start up a system and not see the administrative account. At all. Meaning, I'm logging into my user. But, I don't want to login automatically. I'm trying to avoid that heavily as I got others in my household who absolutely love to use my computers.Basically, I want to see the welcome screen and just see my username so I can login, and have a 'switch users' option. That would be useful! I've already checked through the policy editors to see what I can do, but perhaps I'm not seeing the correct options?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to change the background for the log-on screen for Windows 7 Home Premium. I tried the method explained here [URL](and on other websites), but when I navigated to the backgrounds folder, I wasn't able to add a new picture or delete the current one.I downloaded the Tweaks.com Logon Changer [URL], but it only gives me the choice between pictures in C: / Windows / Web / Wallpaper. And I can't add any pictures there either (nothing happens after I give administrator permission).
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have recently purchased an Acer Veriton X275 with Windows 7 Professional and I am experiencing a nuisance issue. The screen background changes from near white to grey either, after a time lapse or on depression of keyboard key. This can be temporarily rectified by switching the monitor off and then on and, occasionally, by depressing Ctrl/Alt/Del, entering Task Manager and then cancelling. It seems as though a screen energy saver is operating but I am unable to locate it to extend the period before it cuts in.

(no mouse pointer, no task bar, no files/programs that are supposed to be on the desktop) I am having a presentation tomorrow, please please please help me out to save me!! btw, i tried to start in safe mode, everything seems fine, but when i start it normally, the problem occurs again .
View 1 Replies View RelatedJust experiencing some problems with my laptop(acer 7535g)/windows 7. Im not sure where the issue lies but im quite certain its windows 7. Every time I go to do something with my laptop that needs admin permission (e.g. changing screen resolution or installing a program) it doesn't actually ask for permission, it just goes to this plain screen with no task bar, no desktop icons, just the background screen.
I still have the right click function but i cannot use the alt-ctrl-del function as it just goes completely black. The only way out is going to sleep mode and logging in again. Quite annoying and was wondering if anyone else has experienced this and can help.
but today I am stumped. In Windows XP, there was an option to change the logon screen background color:HKEY_USERS.DEFAULTControl PanelColorsYou could change the string "Background" to any 3-digit RGB color code you wanted.(i.e., 0 0 0 = black, etc.)This color would show up on CTRL+ALT+DEL plus it would show up when you logged in remotely using Remote Desktop.Changing the logon screen background wallpaper is great when you're physically at the machine (and I've already done this), but you don't see it when you're connecting via Remote Desktop. Instead you're stuck with the OEM blue background color. The same key I mentioned above does in fact exist in Windows 7, but it doesn't appear to have any effect.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI was surfing the net this morning and in the background i was installing "Logmein". I assume the website i got it off is legit as many of my friends have it installed it to play networked games. This is the website i downloaded it from [URL] Whilst it was installing my laptop froze and ctrl + alt + del wouldn't work so i turned it off by holding down the power button and then turned it back on. It now loads up a screen that says "Windows error recovery" and has an option to "Launch Startup Repair" or "Start windows normally" . whichever one i select the outcome is the same... a screen that says "windows is loading files..." followed by a blank login screen with only the cursor for company as shown in the image below: [URL]
I have no idea what to do and this is the first real problem i haven't been able to solve in the 2 years ive had it.
I have tried every option in the "Advanced Boot Options" (F8 on startup) menu in the hope that something different would happen but every single time is identical to the last. I am running windows 7 premium x64 bit on the Sony Vaio VGN-NW20SF. My laptop didn't come with a windows 7 disk so i cant reformat it. I havent backed it up for a while and there are files i would like to keep if possible.
I like viewing pictures in full screen but is it possible to disable that default slide show option? I suppose I can right click and select pause for each one. Any other method(s) available?
View 4 Replies View Relatedso I got a new laptop and can't figure out one of the tweaks I installed on my old laptop... to copy it to the new one. What it is: Windows 7 would start up to the Login screen, but would continue booting to the desktop (in the background), essentially turning the Login screen into a Lockscreen.Since there seems to be no icon for it (or I can't find it at the moment)... I don't remember what it's called or where it's loaded, how to find/download it again, etc. I've tried googling a couple times... It was just nice to start the computer, walk away... then come back and log in...right to a fully loaded desktop...without waiting for everything to load up.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a new HP pavilion pc with windows 7. I set up (I think) Windows Live Mail and I do receive e-mails. The problem is when I go to Windows Live Mail, I get a screen that distorts my background and the email headers are a bright blue with white letters that I can't read. when I x-out of mail the screen goes black and then restores to the normal background.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI imported my photos from my SDCard to my PC using Picasa 3, and everything was going smoothly... until I tried to take a look at the photos! all of the photos that I've imported using this method for some reason all became greyed out! Viewing them on Picasa3, all you can see is a grey rectangle, in place of the photos. However, when using the windows explorer folder, i can see that the photos were imported correctly (it's not just a grey box, but the actual photos), but when I try to open it (using any program: Paint, Picasa3, etc), it is still a grey rectangle instead of the photos. I tried to upload the image and send it via email, and I get the same result. In my mistake, I chose to "delete the uploaded photos after uploading" option..it's my vacation photos from Croatia I'm not sure if there were any errors when I imported it... i stepped out for a bit while I was waiting for it to import. I looked around my SD card, and looked at the "Lost.dir" folder, and copied all of what's in there.I did use Glarysoft to recover the images, and I'm using a Windows 7 laptop as my computer. Also, are there other alternatives? I did save the lost.dir with all of the photo files in it, both in my SD Card, and on my laptop.
View 4 Replies View Relatedmy office has a terminal server and every time I launch it with dual monitors the terminal server windows do not lock at the maximum size. I can move the entire terminal server window up and down and side to side just by moving the mouse...it is irritating and not allowing me to use the computer efficiently.
If I use 1 monitor, the screen locks. The other guys in the office with Windows XP do not have this problem either.
Does anybody know how to change the boot screen on an Intel S5520HCT serverboard?

View 7 Replies View RelatedHave been a LONG LONG user of Linux as a server (hosting VM's XP / Windows 7 mix) and file / print sharing.
I used to avoid MS like the plague as far as SERVER environments are concerned - probably because my first experince was Windows NT (Windows NeanderThal or Windows No Thanks) which was SO HORRIBLE that it put me off Windows servers for ages.
(Note I'm using a server in a HOME environment where we have around 8 machines (most of which are actually mine for testing -- not a corporate environment which has other considerations).
The problem now with the latest Linux distros that they are trying to be "A Better Windows than Windows". You can of course customize them but I haven't got the time or patience to do this any more. To select what packages to install / leave out now is a 100% pain and if you do it wrong the chances are the system will give errors.
I've looked at the new SUSE 11.2 -- slick and polished - bit I don't NEED "an alternative Windows".
I've just been looking at Windows Server 2008 R2 (got it from Technet) and I'm REALLY IMPRESSED with it so far. I've installed the STANDARD version - you don't need datacenter or Enterprise version for a home server.
It runs vmware server on it just fine (although I might go the whole hog and use the Hyper-V virtualisation -- need to do a bit more research).
I'm quite happy letting MS do the updates than having to mess around with Kernel compiles etc.
Incidentally as a HOME server there are some considerations that you might want to do to make it more like a Desktop OS than a pure server for example add multi-media to it.
This guy does a great job at this .
Convert your Windows Server 2008 R2 to a Workstation! - Multiboot Installation
Windows 7 VM's run just fine on W2008 server (they should as there is a lot of common code).
The frustration has been for more than 2 years now. I tried to move the photo folders & files from "My Pictures" to "Pictures" but Window's geniouses did not give us that option. I do not need to click to "My Pictures" since they are ALL MY pictures. So are we stuck with this decision or is there a way which I can get rid of 1 of the folders? Same with "Documents" & "Videos".
