To Change The Background Of Logon Screen
Nov 14, 2012
I've used the a couple programs to change the background of my logon screen, I've tried using logon workshop but it doesn't make sense to me. All I want is a logon screen with a certain background, a text box for my password and thats it.

but today I am stumped.In Windows XP, there was an option to change the logon screen background color:HKEY_USERS.DEFAULTControl PanelColorsYou could change the string "Background" to any 3-digit RGB color code you wanted.(i.e., 0 0 0 = black, etc.)This color would show up on CTRL+ALT+DEL plus it would show up when you logged in remotely using Remote Desktop.Changing the logon screen background wallpaper is great when you're physically at the machine (and I've already done this), but you don't see it when you're connecting via Remote Desktop. Instead you're stuck with the OEM blue background color.The same key I mentioned above does in fact exist in Windows 7, but it doesn't appear to have any effect.

I'm trying to change the background for the log-on screen for Windows 7 Home Premium. I tried the method explained here [URL](and on other websites), but when I navigated to the backgrounds folder, I wasn't able to add a new picture or delete the current one.I downloaded the Tweaks.com Logon Changer [URL], but it only gives me the choice between pictures in C: / Windows / Web / Wallpaper.And I can't add any pictures there either (nothing happens after I give administrator permission).

Found this logon screen changer, used to be complicated but Win7 has made changes, thereby making this program an easy add on. Now, I just can't decide which picture I prefer..
Check it out here: http://tweaks.com/software/tweakslogon/

I really don't like the logon screen in build 7057 -- looks pale and insipid compared with previous build (especially on a laptop with one of those Ultra-Brite screens)
It's the same screen you see when you lock the computer -- horrible.
Any way to change this -- sometimes there is a way to add an OEM customization.
Anybody had a chance to tinker around with this and get a nice background?

BAsically, I've 2 accounts:
Admin- 'A', Standard- 'S'.
When the logon screen appears, the admin account 'A' is selcted by default i.e. a border surrounding the username, everytime I've to manually select my account and enter password.
I just want my account 'S' to be highlighted by default when the logon screen appears. And no, i don't want to use the automatic login option. Just what I mentioned above.

im running win7 ultimate x64 on a dell xps studio. I used a simple application called tweakslogon. url...Everything seems normal and the software is ver simple to use. However, lately i've been noticing that randomly my logon screen changes to some random wallpapers, which by the way i have no idea where they come from. There is no setting on this program to change wallpaper every so often so thats not a possible issue. It just does its job and lets you be. I've even gone into the system32/oobe folder where the background files are and manually deleted these wallpapers and just left my default picture that I chose. Give it a few days and when I boot my computer the background has changed. I go back into the directory and magically theres a picture there that i've never seen before.

As you probably know, Windows 7 build 7057, a build recently leaked to the public, sports a new (yet ugly) login UI background. Delivering on the most-customizable promise, Windows 7 now supports the ability to load images into the background of the login screen without the use of third-party software or manual hacks.
Although this functionality was designed for OEMs in mind, it is pretty easy to turn on and off using regedit and some images lying around your hard drive.
First, a check is made to determine if the customization functionality is enabled or not. More precisely, a registry value named OEMBackground in the HKLMSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionAuthenticationLogonUIBackground key is checked. Its data, of Boolean type, defines whether or not this behavior is turned on, i.e. 1 for enabled, 0 for disabled. Set this to 1.
Afterwards, if customization is enabled, the primary monitor’s screen height and width are retrieved via calls to GetSystemMetrics. These values are used in the computation of the screen width (w)/height (h) ratio. For example, my desktop resolution is 1920×1200. The ratio, computed by the division of w/h, is 1.6:1.
The result of this computation is looked up in an internal table that drives what image to load on disk. Although I don’t have a large enough monitor to test, it appears resolutions higher than 1920×1200 will force the loading and zooming of an image of closest compatibility (i.e. same ratio, smaller image).
As this is an OEM feature, images are derived from %windir%system32oobeinfoackgrounds. The following files are supported in this folder:
* backgroundDefault.jpg
* background768×1280.jpg
* background900×1440.jpg
* background960×1280.jpg
* background1024×1280.jpg
* background1360×768.jpg
* background1280×768.jpg
* background1920×1200.jpg
* background1440×900.jpg
* background1600×1200.jpg
* background1024×768.jpg
* background1280×960.jpg
* background1280×1024.jpg
The backgroundDefault.jpg image is loaded and stretched-to-fit when a resolution/ratio-specific background cannot be found. The other resolution/ratio-specific files are self-explanatory. If the background cannot be loaded (e.g. image physically too large, incorrect ratio, etc.), the default SKU-based image is loaded from imagesres.dll. You’ll see a Windows Server-themed grayish background in there, too, suggesting this functionality is not specific to client SKUs.

I tried everything I can think of to change the desk top back ground but it just stays the same- Windows 7- picture. So not sure what to do now or if it is a fix from microsoft that has to be done? I did follow all the right instructions to do the change but with no change. The Theme will change when I click on it but not the back ground. Read tutials and treads and made sure I was doing it right and all settings were right but still no good!! It really isn't that big of a deal but if it's suppose to work why not on my brand new computer and operating system?

I have a user with a Windows 7 64 bit machine on our domain. A few days ago he recieved a nasty malware virus and we removed it with our virus tools. However, his desktop is not the way it use to be before the malware. The obvious problem being his desktop background is black and it does not change. When I try to change it in control panel to Architecture or Landscapes, nothing happens, just the color of the taskbar changes. Also, Ive noticed that his "Accessories" folder is missing.I tried adjusting settings in the Ease of Access section, but still does not work.
