Drives Not Recognized As Cd-rw?
Dec 22, 2011all of a sudden my 2 cd-rw drives are recognized as cd-rom.
no new programs have been installed. i have win 7, 64 bit

Usb External Drives Not Recognized?
Oct 6, 2011This problem just popped up on both my win 7 machines. Powered usb external drives (the ones that are based on standard hard drives and plug into the wall) are recognized, but the smaller usb powered ones are not. The drives work on the same computers when booted xp so it's not the usb itself.

(On Windows 7 HomePremium) Windows 7 on partition of my main HD (sata) (Western Digital- have had good luck with them over the years)had a second 320 gig HD (sata) (WD) and a third 12 year old WD ide 40 gig (scuzzy, mainly just backups) Abit IP35Pro mobo (was suspecting sata connects) It's been fine. Until maybe a few months ago when my 320 gig hd blinked out once. I ended up clean reinstal windows, wiped it, lost some data. changing the sata connections brought it back. Might've happened twice.

Jan 6, 2010I have tried multiple fixes and still cannot connect any flash drive or external drive to any usb port on my computer without the dreaded "Usb not recognized" error. My mouse and keyboard are both usb and have worked fine though. I have unplugged the power cord from my psu for a few minutes. I have booted into safe mode. I have deleted the infcache.1 file. I have check my Bios settings (and have latest bios update). I have completely removed all the usb devices in device manager and rebooted which reinstalled everything. I have booted the computer up with a flash drive already in a usb port. I have gone into Drive Manager to see if anything is recognized without a drive letter. I have even applied the hotfix from here - [URL]. Nothing seems to work, yet all of these devices work fine on my netbook running Windows XP.
When I originally installed Windows 7 everything was working fine. I would say it roughly stopped working a month or two ago. I don't constantly use flash drives or my externals so I could be a little off on the time frame (why I didn't do a system restore). I first noticed the problem when I plugged in my Tmobile G1 phone to transfer files and it wasn't recognized. My phone would still charge off of the usb port, but I couldn't mount and browse the 4 gig sd card in my phone. It was working before because I have files on my phone that I transferred from my computer after the Windows 7 install. I started testing out my known, working flash drives as well as my usb powered 2.5" external drive and they too come up unrecognized on all usb ports (front and back).

AMD X2 5000+ BE
Gigabyte GA-M55plus-S3G mobo
G.Skill PI Black 4GB ram (2x2 - DDR2 800)
2 Western Digital Sata drives
Nvidia 9800 GTX+ video card
450 Watt PSU (don't remember brand right now, but good amp rating on 12v for video card).
Windows 7 Ultimate x64
The only drivers I am using for the system that are not the default Windows 7 drivers are for my video card and onboard audio. Onboard audio is the only Windows 7 driver provided on the Gigabyte website for my motherboard. What shoild I do, check or double check or should I start considering formatting and a reinstall of Windows 7 (which I have been trying to avoid)?
Resolution Not Recognized - HDMI Connection Not Recognized?
Sep 29, 2012I have a Zotac 570 gtx connected via HDMI cable to my Asus VE258 LED monitor.I've had this video card and monitor setup working before with the exact cable, card and monitor.Something changed in my system where the monitor is no longer recognized for what it is. When i go into my Nvidia control panel under change resolution 1.Digital Display, 2. DVI-PC Display - Resolution 1080p 59 Hz. There is no DVI cable plugged into the computer and the monitor is set on HDMI input. When i go to my Audio playback devices, the HDMI connection does not show up at all, even as disabled or disconnected.When i go to play a game (Diablo 3, Skyrim, Farcry2) The game either doesn't open (skyrim) giving me the error that resolution is not recognized (but then does not give me any resolutions to choose from in the options menu) or will play (Diablo 3) but is stuck on extremely low resolutions with only 2 options.
Here's what i've done. Contacted Zotac and had them send me the most recent drivers for the video card. Uninstalled originals and re-installed the new ones. Contacted Asus (they say its not the monitor as long as its set on HDMI input) I am unable to find a driver that will make my computer (Windows 7) recognize the monitor for what it is. Zotac failed after their attempt with the driver and told me to RMA the card. So i did... i waited a month.
Internal Drives Showing Up As External Drives?
Jul 21, 2011I just finished putting together my computer, installed Windows 7 Pro 64 bits. However, both of my hard drives (one SSD, one regular HDD) are showing up as external drives (plug-and-play). If I click the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon, I could actually "eject" both of my hard drives.

May 30, 2011am trying to do a backup of my Win 7 system drive (C, but the backup utility is saying that it must backup by non-system drives (E: and H, which happen to have "System Volume Information" folders on them. They are not system drives. E: is my main utilities drive and H: is my games drive.Somehow, Windows thinks they are system drives, when in reality they aren't.Any ideas on how to change them? When I go in to Disk Management, they are not showing as system drives. They are all partitions on the same hard drive, but there are other partitions not included in the backup.

Feb 27, 2011I have a D-Link USB hub (DUB-H4) and it no longer shows up in windows 7. If I plug a flash drive directly into a usb port on top of my tower it shows up fine. When I plug it into my hub nothing.I tried unplugging the hub from the computer and plugged it back in to see if it would reinstall itself but windows does not detect it.

Dec 29, 2011Recently my computer was taking an age to boot... repeatedly had to press start. Upon checking the internet I found that a probable cause was linked to power supply....not spinning HD fast enough to boot so I uprated to 500W... and as the computer leads were all out I took the opportunity of putting in an extra 2 Gb RAM (New and checked with Crucial as being compatible)Total 4Gb RAM Install went well.... and boot up took a fraction of the time! The extra RAM was recognised Total 4Gb, initially the Windows theme played.... then...... unable to start - blue screen re Graphics card - started in safe mode... download drivers.... Then graphics OK.... but No Audio - download new driver for Gigabyte MB..... checked Graphics card in Device Manager - Not working Code 32! I thought there must be an issue with the graphics card so I purchased and installed another. I also removed the extra 2Gb of RAM. I performed a clean install of Windows 7.... Graphics card working and drivers downloaded.... Brilliant ! Then I re installed the 2Gb RAM.... switched on nothing but a long beeeeeep foloowed by another.... followed by another .... I turned off the power, removed the 2Gb RAM and the computer booted fine! So I can deduce that the graphics card works OK (the old one probably did too!) and the 4Gb RAM is OK.... just that the 4Gb of RAM and the Graphics card do not like to work together?

Mar 29, 2011When I start up I recv. a msg stating that I am not logged on as an administrator. I then have to switch users at the start menu and then no more pop up and I do have administrative capabilities.I am not that computer savy but I dont think this is normal. Other than the guest account(which is off), I am the only user. I have been through the control panel inside out and upside down. I am listed as the administrator for sure, in a group, not a domain. I also turned off the password requirement.

Mar 1, 2012There are times when it is not being recognized by Windows 7(pro). It has three interface options (fire wire, esata, and USB). I have tried all three at one time or another, finally settling on the eSATA interface. When it IS recognized, it runs smoothly, with no hiccups. But when I try to shut down the PC, sometimes it hangs up on the shut down screen for a long time (more than 15 minutes at times) until I actually press the on/off button on the My Book. When I do this, my PC immediately shuts down, but then, if I start up my PC, Windows does not see it again. I then have to power the My Book back on, then power up the PC and hope that it is recognized again. It�s not a big issue, because it is not frequently used, except for storing back-ups. It�s just something that is a nuisance. I�m not even sure that it is a Windows problem, because sometimes it is not detected in BIOS. why it is intermittently being detected and why it is hindering the shut-down process?

May 10, 2011I noticed recently that for some reason,my USB ports aren't being identified as 2.0 ports, but I know they are. My computer is an ASUS CG5270, Specs: Core 2 Quad @ 2.4 GHZ,8 gigs ram, 750GB hard drive. I tried going into the device manager and uninstalling everything under "USB", and then restarting and replugging everything in..no luck. I found some Fix for Windows 7 SP1...no luck. Whenever I go into the Device Manager, there are two ports ( I think they're ports) listed as "Enhanced", with the rest as "Universal". I keep getting errors when I plug in my external HD that "this device could perform faster". (I also get another message telling me that the drive needs to be formatted, but it works anyway). I also get a "this device could perform faster" with my webcam, as well...

Jun 8, 2012So I use a NES usb retropad that I connect to my laptop. When I go to the control panel I can see that it shows up but it isn't set as game controller it just says undefined for category. I know the controller works and all the drivers are up to date so I can't figure out why it wont work in any of the programs I try to using in, including any emulators or joy2key. When I try to use it in joytokey it says no controller detected but I know it shows up in the control panel.
