Cannot Change Code Page For Non-unicode Programs
Apr 7, 2012I had to change system locale for non-unicode programs from Slovak to Russian, because of some problems with legacy software. Later, I have switched back to Slovak. I have rebooted and everything seemed to be fine, but ... I've noticed, that slovak/czech programs do not work properly and still using Russian codepage even if windows is showing that current locale for non-unicode program is set to Slovak.Re-setting of this option did not work, so I've downloaded some diagnostic tools and it shows: [code] So my question is: how can I change EBCDIC code page in windows 7 (for example in registry)? Or how can I reset all these settings to windows default?

Apr 13, 2010I am trying to connect to a wireless router in the house I share with roommates. It is not my router, just what they give me access to with my rent. They are using a WEP key with this router. Just for clarity I will even post the WEP key (since no one on here will know what router this is for). The 5 byte WEP key in hexadecimal is 18 01 44 62 AE. the first 2 characters have no viewable ASCII character equivalent and Windows 7 doesn't appear to allow me to enter in the Hex values when entering a WEP key. So, can Windows 7 not handle this or can the WEP key for a network be entered in Hex format somewhere and I just don't know where yet?

Nov 12, 2009I recently attempted an install of Windows 7 onto a friends PC. The specs are listed below. Here is a link to a screenshot of the problem www.ronnarozny.com.
This occurs after a Windows 7 install. The system boots to the Windows 7 setup, where personal options are selected. After this, a reboot will begin the POST, and prior to completion, this screen appears. I do not believe the POST has finished, and I do not think it is handing boot duties to the OS.
What I have attempted so far is:
Memtest - checked out ok.
Replaced CORSAIR mem with other sticks.
Reformat from command prompt on boot disk.
Removal of all hardware, including video card.
I am completely stumped on this issue, and any help would be appreciated.

Non-unicode Characters
May 8, 2009I successfully installed Windows 7 RC 7100 as a second OS in addition to XP Pro. I never had Vista, so this system is totally new to me. My questions:
- I have a problem with a correct codepage for non-unicode characters in russian language. In XP there was a special setting that allowed to select the proper language to show non-unicode characters under Regional settings. Will russian LIP or MUI solve this ? BTW, whats the difference between them? If I prefer to have english menus, what do I need to get?
- I installed Windows 7 to the separate drive. During installation I had some known problems with my bad memory sticks and had a BSOD. I changed them and Windows 7 was installed successfully. Now I have to change boot sequence in BIOS to switch between XP and Windows 7. Is it a way to edit boot.ini on XP to include Windows 7?
ASCII Special Characters Not Showing In Live Messenger 2011 Chat?

However, when running the preinstalled Windows Live Messenger 2011 on this system, special characters such as ☺ or ♫ do not show up correctly in the chat window, instead appearing as a blank box. They do however show up in the contact list for contacts that have such characters in their names or messages.

May 22, 2011I recently reformatted my PC and have noticed that areas which properly supported Unicode beforehand no longer do. For example, although Unicode text shows correctly in the majority of Windows Explorer, when I right click on files to view the properties the text field that shows the file name isn't rendering it correctly. This also propagates into some parts of other applications which previously had Unicode support, such as Winamp. I have a vast collection of East Asian music so this is more than a minor inconvenience for me.

Unicode Characters Failing To Display Properly (Font Settings May Be Repeatedly Corrupted Upon Restart)
Nov 13, 2011For some reason Windows 7 (Home Premium, 64-bit) has recently stopped displaying Unicode characters correctly. I know its a Windows issue, not specific to a certain program, because the problem appears on Asian characters and symbols like the stars in my song ratings across various programs like foobar2000, Mp3Tag, and iTunes. I don't think they work anywhere; I just happen to notice their absences (replaced by ugly square placeholders) in my media-related programs. One interesting thing is that restoring my default font settings via Control Panel appears to fix the problem every other time I restart (ie, I might be able to get Unicode working correctly if I always restore the default font settings before restarting or rebooting my PC - but that is heinously annoying).
The only possible cause I can think of is that I have had some programs to modify the Windows UI such as GDI++ to make the fonts Mac-like (decided ClearType was better rather quickly :P) and pieces of Stardock's suite including programs like WindowsBlinds, IconPackager, etc. I somewhat recently uninstalled all of them, but I didn't notice the problem right away, so I am not sure if they have anything to do with it.

Kernel Power Error ID - 41
May 26, 2012I have been facing a wierd problem recently. My desktop monitor turns off itself after a few minutes but the CPU works, I can hear the fan running and see the lights blinking. One thing I noticed is that when the monitor turns off, the Orange light on the CPU stays on which normally just blinks. My PC works normally on safe mode, but the worst part about safe mode is that I cannot work on my software CorelDRAW. Can this be the SMPS problem? because recently my mouse and keyboard inputs were not working because of which I got a USB keyboard and mouse. I have recently installed Windows 7 64bit, but I think that should not cause the problem as I have worked with 64bit Windows before on the same machine.

No Graphic Card (Maybe inbuilt, not sure)

Jan 15, 2013Been having unexpected crashes lately on my Pc. I am running windows 7 ultimate x64. And I have been getting the Kernel-power 41. The events before the crash are random. I have read a couple of posts on this forum but I cant seem to find the ones I used yesterday to link to. So I ran a cpu stress test for 8 hours and it was fine. And a memtest for 8 hours no errors. And I just finished a 8 hour gpu stress test and that went fine.

Mar 12, 2012i have this laptop HP Pavilion dv4-1213la Entertainment Notebook PC - HP Customer Care (United States - English)I've been having this kernel power issues reboots and bsod's for a long time now, i've tried every possible hardware piece alone and no faults, im a linux user too and had linux only for 2 months no problems at all.only Windows 7(32 or 64bit) fails at me. It always reboots with Kernel-power(41)errors, and ive been trying to trace the problems but bugcodes 0 and bugparameters were always 0. Clean installs didnt help, new hard drive didnt either.

Sudden Shutdown Kernel Power 41 63
Apr 26, 2010I am not playing a game my computer runs fine for hours this Critical Error only occurs when I'm running a game usually after few minutes. Most solutions suggested reinstalling audio driver/making sure there is only one. Well I only have one, it's up to date with one audio device running and was reinstalled a couple of days ago. I'm not yet sure if it occurs in every game which I am checking now so far I've experienced shutdown while playing Just Cause 2 and Metro 2033. Critical error is always the same and always a shutdown even though Restart On System Failure is unchecked. [code]
Also attached is my dxdiag.I've ran RAM diagnostic and it found no faults after 13~ thorough checks. I will try reinstalling audio driver again as well as check whether all of my games trigger this error. I did run the System file checker from CMD cannot quite remember the command now and it showed returned no faults.So far only Metro 2033 and Just Cause 2 have caused this error.Just noticed I have missed a latest video card driver. Will attempt to try again after updating that.
