Changed Shell32.dll To Notepad By Accident?
May 12, 2012I'm far from a computer expert, other than games I don't know much at all.I was trying to get a file for a game to work so I turned to google for help, It looks like I've gone onto something I shouldn't have.The instruction on the website was to click start and type "Shell32.dll" into the search box.The next instruction was to open it with Notepad, which I did... The box saying something like "always open using this program" was ticked.After spending time googling what I'd just done it seems like that was a huge mistake, I have no idea how to change it back to its original state.So far everything seems to be fine but from what I read on another site the shell32.dll file has something to do

May 21, 2009Dont ask me how, but I ended up installing Windows7 twice on two seperate partitions. I now have two "Windows 7" options when my boot screen comes up. I obviously only ment to install it once so I want to get rid of the second Windows 7 option on the boot screen (and the bootscreen itself aswell actually).
How do I remove the Windows7 installation thats on partition "D"?

Dec 7, 2011While struggling to get rid of the win7 security 2012 virus I believe I accidentally deleted a registry key that had to do with my internet instead of one of the ones for the virus. I am not very tech savvy but I can navigate around a computer fairly well with the right guidance. I did not make a copy of the registry keys before attempting to edit them, and for some reason I have no restore dates before I made this mistake to use system restore. Now whenever I open my internet browser (internet explorer 8) I receive a: internet explorer cannot display this webpage. I have connectivity with my router but limited access. I tried trouble shooting and got a message saying there was an error with the DNS. Possibly just a list of what registry keys could possibly cause just my internet to go down. If I can find out which one I deleted I should be able to manually type it in.

Oct 7, 2012I have a Lenovo z360 laptop that runs Windows 7 Home Premium x86 on an Intel core i3 processor. When I turned it on last Friday, the Windows logo showed for around 5 minutes then the BSOD flashes. Technical information:UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME 0x000000ED (0x87E0D798, 0xC0000183). I put in a repair disk and chose to use cmd so that I can chkdsk /r C:. After it successfully checked, I decided to also chkdsk D: so I wouldn't need to go past the recovery options menu again. It took around 5 hours before my maid unplugged it while cleaning, so it died while I was eating. I charged it somewhere else when my brother discharged it to use the desktop computer. He said that it said "Deleting index entry from index $0 of ... 25" when it died again. When I booted it again, it still shows the windows logo for 5 minutes but restarts with no blue screen

LAN Card Disabled
Mar 31, 2012Everytime I open my computer, it is always installing devices. I usually have problem in installing my sound(sometimes my computer detects it as realtek sometimes its high definition audio device) and LAN(realtek RTL8139/810x Family Fast Ethernet NIC #366). Usually repairing my sound device works. (about 70%) How can I solve it permanently? My computer says my LAN is not working but I can still access the internet. What seems to be the problem?

Mar 25, 2009When I go to my computer it has a 'BD-ROM Drive' but my DVD-ROM/CD-ROM drive does not appear. I tried putting a CD but nothing happens.
Under device manager I have a CD-ROM drive enabled but below that is 'PBDS DVD+-RW DS-8W1P ATA Device which when I click says this device is disabled (Code 22). I try to click 'enable device' but when I go through the troubleshooting wizard is says windows cannot enable the device.
Can anybody help me? I just want to upgrade my Windows 7 Beta 7022 to 7048 but can't do it without my CD-Rom drive.
I want to get his fixed but if I cant would I be able to upgrade Windows 7 from Vista (I'm running a dual-boot) or will that write over my Vista partition?

Feb 4, 2011I have a program (written by a community member for this game) that hooks into the game itself, and grabs the onscreen text. Now, the program itself works, but only when UAC is disabled. I can run it as administrator, and approve the changes it makes to the computer, however it still won't work unless the UAC is disabled.Do any of you guys know what the problem is? When UAC is off, the program does not need administrator priviledges. When the UAC's on, when the program starts up it the UAC makes its appearance and asks if you'd like to allow this program to make changes, and i always click "yes." So I don't understand why, even though i allow it to make changes, it still can't do those changes.My friend, the one who showed me it, runs XP and has no problem with it. if you want the link for it, if you need it, i can get you it. It's pretty simple really, just the program and a .DLL file that goes with it.

We also noticed that most of the services are disabled and the ability to enable them is grayed out. We re enabled UAC but no help. Feb 21, 2012A few days ago I tried connecting a MBlaze modem to my laptop (Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit) to access internet. But it resulted in instant BSOD everytime. I deleted the modem software after that & didn't try to connect it again. But now, whenever I connect using my LAN broadband, connection works fine as long as I am continuously browsing something. But as soon as I stop browsing and it goes in idle mode in about 10-15 minutes, the connection gets disconnected and in the Broadcom Netlink Ethernet properties it shows "No drivers are available for this device". The only solution to this is a forced shutdown & restart, after which it works fine untill not idle. I am not able to download anything because of this. I tried many things like reinstalling the network adapter driver, unchecking the power management feature, resetting the connection, etc. but nothing is working.

Well, that's me! started in safe mode, enabled the administrator account (no password) then tried to login as Administrator....SAME MESSAGE! Rebooted a couple of times, was able to finally login as my user account: GENE (who is an admin as well) Double checked security profile to ensure *something* hadn't set that - nope. I then used the system restore DVD to do a restore anyways...
Things have been fine for about 2 weeks, but then this morning..same thing.
Tried to login as user GENE (an admin account) received the message, your account is locked out and to contact system admin.. After enabling Administrator through safe mode command line, I rebooted into Administrator fine. When I go to the Control Panel, user GENE is not there, however the user profile exists AND the files are there under c:usersgene really really weird

Aug 21, 2011So I got a new desktop computer, and a User account was already set up for me. So when I got it I did some software installing, anti virus, malwarebytes, windows updates. Had to do some restarts for the Windows updates and all is still well.hen added a password to my user account, and had some more Windows updates, although some weren't critical ones, just recommended. The pc needed to restart again, so I restart. Now when I turn on my pc, Windows will load and show a screen that says "Your account has been disabled. Please contact your system administrator." I click Ok underneath it and it goes to a log in screen with two options. First is Administrator. It requires a password. It's not the one I set up. The second option is Other User. That one I can click, type in my user account name and password and that works. So I can get into my computer ok. But I would really like to get rid of that Account has been disabled message and make it so only my User account shows up at the log in screen. I thought about trying a system restore to a time before it started happening. Would that get rid of Windows updates, if that is the cause

Apr 30, 20114 days ago we changed the security settings on our home router/network from WPA2- Personal TKIP+AES to just AES. I then changed my Asus UL80vt-A1 wireless adapter settings (Atheros AR9285) to match (from TKIP to AES).This was the ONLY change I made to the system.Then the fun began.
First off a new adapter appeared in my Network connections. It is Wireless Network Connection 2- Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter. Well, that was not there before I made the changes to the security settings. Googling results indicate it is a normal part of Windows 7, it really had never been there before.Restarting the computer the wireless adapter shows as disabled, and I have to run the network diagnostics to re-enable it. It does not matter if I do a shut down or hibernate (my preferred way of shutting down the laptop before going somewhere).
So I thought I should change the security settings back to what I had (TKIP+AES) and set my notebook to TKIP. I also did a Windows Update just in case. I ran a scan with Avast Antivirus, Microsoft Security Essential and Malware Bytes to see if something evil had gotten in, all were clean.Now when I hibernate my laptop it takes 4-5 minutes to shutdown. When I restart it takes 4-5 minutes to restart. I am staring at the intro screen waiting for the logon to appear. Once I get logged in the wifi adapter appears connected, but the computer is acting like it is hung up until all the open programs have finished loading. I can't do anything until the 27 open tabs in Firefox have completely finished being restored. Takes another 3-4 minutes.
Network Was Disabled While Trying To Change IP?
Dec 29, 2011move on my part, especially going into this with no knowledge, but I really needed my IP changed.
This guide told me to disable my local host, so I did just that. I assumed it would still appear in the menu but I guess I was wrong. Windows won't detect that network now, but it does detect that it's disabled. I'm running Ubuntu from a disc and the internet is fine. Am I going to have to call my ISP? It's 3:54 AM right now, so I think it may me a bit too late to do that.
One Processor Disabled During Boot?
May 24, 2011On my dual core laptop, running win 7 x64, I have been tweaking the boot configuration to extend battery life and performance. I changed the advanced boot processor setting from "2" to "1" in the "msconfig" panel. Now the boots are much slower and the battery life is not even positively affected. I cannot change this anymore in the "msconfig"! The option that used to be there, "2", is now gone, and if I uncheck it, it is just as slow as "1".
