View 2 Replies View Relatedi needed to pawn my laptop for a short time and didnt want my files to be viewed by anyone while it was not in my possesion, so what i did i changed the file permissions of my c: drive so that only admin had fulll control and no one else. well now i cant access my c: drive with my admin accrt. nor will it let me change the file permissions either. also a hand full of other things will not work such as the internet explorer icon on the task bar or start menu but i can open i.e. from the recently viewd submenu from the i.e. icon on the start menu. also i can open files on my c: drive from any old shortcut icons i had left on my desktop but i cant acces them directly from explorer. so i found some work arounds but really need to get full control of my h/d.

But for some reason the entries in the start menu is english now!How can I change that back? Maybe it hapened when I installed and run the program "Advanced System Care" which was suposed to be a good program, but I'm not sure. I didn't help to uninstall it by the way.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a USB external hard drive that I keep all my documents etc on (had it for years)I upgraded from Vista Home to & Home Premium then had to upgrade recently to Professional to run my Sage. Through all these upgrades my ext. drive ran fine. Occasionally the drvie letter would change if I had something else plugged into the USB, this was always easily corected in disk management by changing the drive path.The connection on the case packed up so I had to get the drive put into a new case, now when I plug it in the drive is assigned G instead of F, I tried to change the drive letter allocation in Disk Management but it won't let me as the program still thinks I have a second ext. hard drive which is labelled F. I suspect this has happened because when the usb connection broke the drive was disconnected suddenly instead of a proper eject.How do I get Disk Management to remove the inactive drive - i can't find any obvious way - eject, delete etc are all missing when I click on tools or tasks.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've archived many movies to Disc using the very excellent AnyDVD software - I've copied them as ISO's - complete copies of the originals whatever the size but obviously removed region coding B/S and CSS.If I want to play these again on a normal DVD player (not a Computer) which can play DVD RW / DVD RAM etc how can I get say a 6 GB iso dual layer or whatever the original iso format is on to one or more 4.7 GB standard DVD's so I can play the disc on the DVD player.I don't mind losing subtitles, different sound tracks etc as I've still got these on the original ISO copy on disc but I want to keep the HIGHEST POSSIBLE screen resolution -- preferably the original if possible.Eventually I'll be able to STREAM the archived ISO to the TV but It will be a while before I set up a decent multi-media server.Divx is no good -- it compresses the image too much for a decent high quality large size LCD TV.The DVD player also does a really good job of upscaling "normal" DVD's to 1080p - very little discernable difference between a DECENT upscaled normal DVD and a "Blu Ray" one --- and without the added complexity of having to go through hoops with Blu Ray protection -- so you can play a DISC YOU HAVE PAID FOR on YOUR OWN EQUIPMENT.Don't you just hate all this stuff stopping you from using the media wherever you want -- didn't work for music and its not going to work for video media too -- but that's aanother whole issue.
View 2 Replies View Relatedover the last 7 days Ive been experiencing unforced shutdowns of my system.I checked the event log and its related to a critical event: Kernel Power, Event 41, Task category (63).I had a look on the web and their are loads of "fixes", but I havent come accross a thread that led to someone saying the prob was resolved.
1. Possible driver problem - No messing about: reformat SSD and HDD - reinstall Win 7 and basic software (mobo/gpu) -
2. Possible Mobo/GPU/PSU problem - reset mobo back to standard settings - run OCCT test to check CPU/PSU/GPU - No errors -
3. Alter power management plan so pc doesnt sleep/hibernate -
4. Set power plan to high performance
5. Change power management on new gaming keyboard , swap keyboard to make sure (paranoia)
6. Check no duplicate audio drivers.
7. ran Unigine Heaven to give the sys a shakedown.
Its quite frustrating because I cant narrow it down to hardware or software. On the 3/1/2013 it powered down (and restarted) with this error 10 times between 01:25am and 10:52am, however it had stayed stable prior to that and hadnt powered down since 15:16 on the 2/1. So u see it appears random (nothing is random in computing) with the time stamps and no pattern emerging prior to Error 41.
I'm having trouble with changing my desktop background. My laptop is a Toshiba and I use windows 7. I've tried changing it but it won't work and when i was trying to fix it last sunday my desktop screen went black (my icons are still there but the backgroundis black) and i cannot change it whatsoever.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI went to Control panel->Default programs->Associate a file type with a program and changed the association to file .BAT to explore.exe.Now, when I click on a bat file with the mouse, the whole desktop starts shaking. I think it goes into a loop.The problem, when I go back to Controlpanel-> Default programs->Associate a file type with a program.The extension .BAT is no longer there! It is gone.And when I examine the file property of some .bat file, there is no option to change what to open it with. There is no open with... only OPEN option.There is also no way to add a new file extension in Control panel->Default programs->Associate a file type. I can't add .bat again.I did Control panel->Default programs->Set progream access and computer defaults but still the .bat file association is broken, and when I double click on it, same thing happens.Now when I right click on a .BAT file from exploer, I also do not see the EDIT option any more.

When I boot into the standard user, I am prompted by UAC for the admin password for 4 programs to start. All the programs are ASUS utilities that came with mymotherboard.I have checked the permissions of the programs and the User group has full control.Also, these programs do not show up in the MSCONFIG startup tab. I want the utilities to run but do not want to have to authenticate every time I boot
View 10 Replies View RelatedI changed it was because I tried to optimize (my mistake) by reducing it. My router is set to 1365 MTU manually after a support tech from Linksys asked me to change it for a previous problem. I used the "netsh interface ipv4 set subinterface "Wireless Network connection" mtu=nnnn store=persistent" command to change it around to find what MTU Windows uses automatically. It was set at 1500 (for both LAN and WLAN). I set the WLAN to 1365 to see how it would perform, didn't see a noticable change I believe so I switched back. Now I see a slight lag when loading sites. I also compared the time against another pc that I did not tamper with (which by default was set to 1500) and that one worked normally.I fear I may have overridden Windows defaults for handling MTU since after manually setting it to 1500 (was originally 1500 when it was untouched) it lags a little. For the time being I set it to 1365 to get the performance that I normally got with default settings.
My question is if it's possible to get the original performance back with the MTU set back to what it was originally (1500)?Also I learned my lesson and won't be trying to change settings without first making sure they are completely reversible. Also I'd like to do this without using System Restore.
So i returned to my work computer after lunch and the resolution had been changed to 800x600, very odd.Now i have spent 2 hours trying to get back my resolution to the 1680x1050 that is was before but i still can not choose anything higher then 1600x1200 under Screen Resolution settings. The one with the correct ratio i can choose is 1280x960 and i'd like to bigger one back.I have updated the driver for my graphics card (ATI Radeon 3000 Graphics accoridng to Device Manager). I have updated the driver for the Monitor (HP LE2201w), but the monitor still shows up as Generic Non-PnP Monitor under Device Manager and now i am out of ideas... I really have no idea what the hell happened when i was gone.(And yes, the computer was locked so it wasn't someone else changing something)Uninstalling the driver for the Generic device does nothing, it pops back up again after installing the correct display driver, or after a restart. It's like the display driver i downloaded from HP is not being installed, no idea why.

View 3 Replies View Relatedi have this problem on two different computers running Windows 7 7201 (a notebook running x64 and a netbook running x32). even though i am able to install a second keyboard layout, the option to switch languages with a keyboard shortcut is disabled by default. i can go through the options and enable the left alt+shift shortcut, but as soon as i press ok or apply the shortcut setting resets back to "none".
for the original administrator everything works normaly, but when i tried to set the standard account as administrator temporarily, i still could not make the keyboard shortcut setting to work.
one workaround that i found on the netbook was to delete the standard account, setup the keyboard options for the administrator account, and select the option to copy these settings to any new accounts. after creating a new standard user everything works as it should, but it would be too much work creating a new account for my notebook and setting up everything from the begining.
i also tried finding a way to change the shortcut setting directly from the registry but i can't find any information about it either.
I was at my Math class and my roommate texted me telling me my computer started to freak out. The computer turned itself on and the fans went extremely loud and a clicking noise started. I have a Sager Clevo P150. So I get back to the room and my computer was off and everything seemed fine. I started it up and my sticky keys were not set. This happened before though, sethc.exe was not in the right spot. I fixed this before by putting it where it correctly goes and allowing full control to my admin account. I tried to do this again and it would not let me. I went to User account and found out my only account on this computer is set to Standard. Don't ask me how this is possible, so now I have no admin account on my own computer and I don't have full control over it. I tried bringing up the command prompt and manually activating an administrator account by doing: net user administrator /active:yes and my access is denied because I am not an admin account. I then booted my computer in safe mode and tried to access the admin account that way. Which there was an admin account but a password attached to it. The password is not what my password is and I did not set any other password because there was always only 1 user. So what the hell do I do?
