i had a friend install windows 7 for me, now my cd rom won't be read by my computer. how do i fix this? i tryed updating, and going on the manufactorers site with no help at all. i have a compaq presario. and how can i speed it up again.

I added the Cyrillic font from Region and Language and I can write in Cyrillic but the computer can't read the language ,it shows me this, I know that I don't need to install a Cyrillic package on the computer because Windows 7 already has it. I just need to know how to add it.

I disconnected the old drive, connected the new one, plopped in my GENUINE, bought from the store Windows 7 disc and set the dvd drive to boot first in my bios menu.The computer just kept asking me to insert bootable media, so I plugged my old drive back in, so at least I'd have a computer. I tried accessing the dvd from My Computer, but it says to inset a disc. So I tried another disc. The dvd read the other random disc without issue. I checked device manager, drivers are updated, no errors to troubleshoot. Tried the Windows dvd, and again, I got "please insert disc."There are no apparent scratches on my windows dvd that would render it unreadable. It was in its case, there's no reason for it to get damaged, and it's not that old. I actually used the same disc in the same drive to repair a windows problem only a few weeks ago.
View 5 Replies View RelatedSo i build a newcomputer yesterday. I decided to use my old SATA hard drive from my computer, it has my OS, and other files on it. I get everything put in, but when i start the computer it says "no hard disk is detected".
I enter the bios menu, and i notice it recognizes that it is in there, as well as my disk drive.
How come it wont let me load my hard drive, and it doesnt detect it when i start it up.. but BIOS sees that its there?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to reformat my computer with the original windows 7 disk but i'm having issues. when i insert the disk and i go to "My Computer" it doesn't show up as a windows 7 disk and has no folders or files when i 'explore' it. i checked the device manager and it shows the dvd rom is working fine, i updated the driver anyways and it said it was already up to date. after i tried rebooting the computer and it doesn't give me the option to 'press any key to start disk' that it normally does. i went into bios and set it to where the dvd rom was first priority followed by the hard drive (nothing), then made it the only priority with all others disabled. it then said "insert disk and press enter", i pulled the disk out then put it back in but it won't boot. i made sure the disk drive was working by inserting another disk in it and it worked fine and booted up and everything. then i tried putting the windows 7 disk into another computer i have and it also booted up normally and worked fine.

Most of the time when I open up My Computer, it scans for a really long time and shows nothing(ie.no HDDs, Optical Drives or Network Locations) and in certain folders the icons and thumbnails are completely missing. The memory card from the camera is not recognized by the printer nor does it show on the "Device Menu" of My Computer (Windows 7). Have no trouble with any of my other SD cards from any other cameras (I have another Canon as well). I can download from the camera with a USB but not directly from the card.

View 2 Replies View RelatedTLDR: I get the "A disk read error occurred" error but the system disk is readable and checks OK in the recovery USB. So, I have two hard drives--a terabyte drive with some data on it and a smaller drive with the Windows 7 installation on it--and a USB drive. I made the USB drive into a recovery USB using the instructions here Installing Windows 7 System Recovery into USB Flash Drive | Raymond.CC Blog with the addendum found in the comments. I made a system image of the smaller drive via the control panel and then put the image in the terabyte drive. I then replaced my smaller hard drive with a new drive of a comparable size.In order to restore the drive, I booted into the recovery USB, formatted the new hard drive with ntfs, made it active, and ran wbadmin start recovery -version:xxx -items:C: -itemtype:Volume -backupTarget:C: -recoveryTarget: where C was the terabyte drive and D is the new drive. I may have the drives mixed up here, but I assure you I had them correct when I actually ran the command
After a reset, I got some generic error so I went back into the bios, and set the new drive to be at the top of all boot lists, and then rebooted. It was at this time I got the above error. I feared that my drive was actually DOA, so I booted back into the recovery. I did a D:;dir and saw that all of my old files did indeed exist, so I figure it was a boot issue. I ran the boot repair utility in the recovery menu and it said there were no errors and I should restart. I didn't restart, and instead ran a chkdsk D: /f and found no errors. I did a bootsect /nt60 /all /mbr and restarted and still nothing changed. I even tried a "bcdedit /timeout 10" and I do not see the boot loader before getting this error. Not sure if that is expected or not but I'll throw that in here.

View 2 Replies View RelatedMy wife keeps most of her data on a USB stick so that she can easily move it around her 3 laptops (in 3 different locations). This morning, the stick was dead. It did not say a piep, no power, nothing. Despite my constant preaching about the importance of backups, she had, of course, not backed it up for a long time.Well, I tried an old trick that may possibly help others. I put it into the fridge for a couple of hours. And low and behold, after that I was able to read the thing and copy all her files. Now she is a happy camper again. So if you have the same problem one day, try the fridge. No guarantee that it will work for you, but it did in this case. I have used the same trick with dead disks with some success.

Then when I woke up today, I turned it on and BAM, could no longer read my SSD (Vertex 2) and would get a message telling me to insert my windows install disk.So I decided to humour it, and tried putting the disk in, checked the recovery options and was unable to find the SSD to perform recovery on. I carried on a few more steps to install a fresh copy and it wasn't listed there either.
I spent about a hour fiddling around with the hardware, swapping around wires and harddrives to check if it was the wires messing me about, turns out everything worked fine.I then reset my BIOS and then checked the boot settings, but my SSD wasn't even displayed on the list.So I was stumped.On the POST screen, when the SSD was not plugged in, nothing would show up in that slot, however when the SSD is plugged in it says 'None'(SSD currently plugged into C1 Master)
