I have been trying to follow the instructions at this site: How to use the System File Checker tool to troubleshoot missing or corrupted system files on Windows Vista or on Windows 7 but can't get sfcdetails.txt to show up in Notepad - even though I think I am following the instructions precisely.
1. At an elevated command prompt, type the following command, and then press ENTER:takeown /f Path_And_File_NameFor example, type takeown /f E:\windows\system32\jscript.dll.
2. Type the following command, and then press ENTER to grant administrators full access to the file:icacls Path_And_File_Name /GRANT ADMINISTRATORS:FFor example, type icacls E:\windows\system32\jscript.dll /grant administrators:F.
3. Type the following command to replace the file with a known good copy of the file:Copy Path_And_File_Name_Of_Source_File Path_And_File_Name_Of_DestinationFor example, type copy E:\temp\jscript.dll E:\windows\system32\jscript.dll.---Some of the corrupted are repeated which only adds to my confusion. Here's the actual sfcdetails.txt document if it helps understand my situation.edit: Here's a text of just the corruptions.
What's the best type of DVD to use for read-only and read/write applications? I'm a little out-of-date on this, haven't bought any in awhile. I remember things like DVD-R/RW and DVD+RW and such. I have a new machine running Win7, and an older laptop running XP.
TLDR: I get the "A disk read error occurred" error but the system disk is readable and checks OK in the recovery USB. So, I have two hard drives--a terabyte drive with some data on it and a smaller drive with the Windows 7 installation on it--and a USB drive. I made the USB drive into a recovery USB using the instructions here Installing Windows 7 System Recovery into USB Flash Drive | Raymond.CC Blog with the addendum found in the comments. I made a system image of the smaller drive via the control panel and then put the image in the terabyte drive. I then replaced my smaller hard drive with a new drive of a comparable size.In order to restore the drive, I booted into the recovery USB, formatted the new hard drive with ntfs, made it active, and ran wbadmin start recovery -version:xxx -items:C: -itemtype:Volume -backupTarget:C: -recoveryTarget: where C was the terabyte drive and D is the new drive. I may have the drives mixed up here, but I assure you I had them correct when I actually ran the command
After a reset, I got some generic error so I went back into the bios, and set the new drive to be at the top of all boot lists, and then rebooted. It was at this time I got the above error. I feared that my drive was actually DOA, so I booted back into the recovery. I did a D:;dir and saw that all of my old files did indeed exist, so I figure it was a boot issue. I ran the boot repair utility in the recovery menu and it said there were no errors and I should restart. I didn't restart, and instead ran a chkdsk D: /f and found no errors. I did a bootsect /nt60 /all /mbr and restarted and still nothing changed. I even tried a "bcdedit /timeout 10" and I do not see the boot loader before getting this error. Not sure if that is expected or not but I'll throw that in here.
We are running a small network with a NAS and networked PC's. The PC's are all running Windows 7 Ultimate. One PC will open files already open by others and does not notify that the file is in use. This user enters information into the file, saves and closes. When the original user (accessing the file first, sometimes adds information) saves and closes the file, the changes from the second user are lost.
i had a friend install windows 7 for me, now my cd rom won't be read by my computer. how do i fix this? i tryed updating, and going on the manufactorers site with no help at all. i have a compaq presario. and how can i speed it up again.
I put in WD MYBOOKLIVE which is a network drive and I got a Blue screen. I also get it if I put in a Logitech webcam which I really need.WD tech support said the drive has nothing to do with the Blue screen. I triedt o read the DMP file by putting it into WORD but that didn't work.

I'm not sure if this is a virus, but it happened after I restored my computer. All my folders in my Local Disk became "Read-Only", and from what I know its suppose to have a check mark instead of a square box.
I'm deaf, and had a stroke, (Right side Handicap)type MSCONFIG: Did Startup, If the "Startup Item" column isn't wide enough to see the entire name of any of them, widen the column. Can't read the Startup Item, Can't read the Notepad. My wife keeps most of her data on a USB stick so that she can easily move it around her 3 laptops (in 3 different locations). This morning, the stick was dead. It did not say a piep, no power, nothing. Despite my constant preaching about the importance of backups, she had, of course, not backed it up for a long time.Well, I tried an old trick that may possibly help others. I put it into the fridge for a couple of hours. And low and behold, after that I was able to read the thing and copy all her files. Now she is a happy camper again. So if you have the same problem one day, try the fridge. No guarantee that it will work for you, but it did in this case. I have used the same trick with dead disks with some success.
So I turned my computer off last night, everything was working fine. Then when I woke up today, I turned it on and BAM, could no longer read my SSD (Vertex 2) and would get a message telling me to insert my windows install disk.So I decided to humour it, and tried putting the disk in, checked the recovery options and was unable to find the SSD to perform recovery on. I carried on a few more steps to install a fresh copy and it wasn't listed there either.
I spent about a hour fiddling around with the hardware, swapping around wires and harddrives to check if it was the wires messing me about, turns out everything worked fine.I then reset my BIOS and then checked the boot settings, but my SSD wasn't even displayed on the list.So I was stumped. On the POST screen, when the SSD was not plugged in, nothing would show up in that slot, however when the SSD is plugged in it says 'None'(SSD currently plugged into C1 Master)
I recently purchased Star Wars: The old Republic for windows.
I upgraded from windows vista about a year ago, but I have yet to install a game with the use of disk, The problem is, when I put the disk in the DVD/RW drive, ...nothing happens.
The only time something really happens , is when it shows the DVD ROM thumbnail, but when I Open it up, it either freezes my computer, or It shows nothings in the file.
I have tried running it through the run application, and it gives me a notice that the file is corrupted. I have tried using this game in my other computer and it works fine..
I have two files I imported from my former computer and every .jpg & .png pictures are read only and therefore when I make changes and try to save them I am not allowed. I am using Windows 7 and have tried to change the properties but to no avail.
i just format my laptop to windows 7.. but after that, my laptop cannot read any cd's or dvd's.. is there anything that i need to download first before playing dvd or cd?
When I switched to W7x64 last night I tried to reinstall my 32bit m$office. I popped the disk in and it says please insert a disk into the drive.I then popped in another disk to check the drive and media player started. The disk isn't scratched.I have not done any additional installation of drivers for the drive.
the documents i'm trying to view was typed in my last computer using microsoft word. i saved them to an usb, but when i tried viewing it on my new computer using wordpad all i got was numbers and symbols. so is this because they are different programs or what the hell? i'll have to stop by my local library i suppose.
My Toshiba satellite L505 laptop running windows 7 won't play some CD's. Some CDs/DVDs work on it, but some do not. The CD in question runs on other laptops and computers running wndows 7 with no problem.
I am unable to read CD-R on Word 2010 using Windows 7. When I insert a CD I either get the message Internet Not Responding or the screen fades out and I have to exit because it won't do anything.
