I've reached the last straw with my attempts to install windows 7 64 bit onto my PC the story goes as this;
I needed to upgrade from windows XP 32bit to Windows 7 64bit however when I installed my first Windows 7 package I didnt realise but it was infact 32bit so to my annoyance I reformatted back to XP 32bit, (I need 64bit to run several things on my computer such as high end games) in the mean time my family told me they wanted windows 7 on their PC, so using their PC I created a USB boot disk and used it on my bare-bones PC (The one I'd recently reset to XP), this brought up my first Disk Read Error.
Annoyed I tried a few different ways of making a USB boot only to always be brought to the same error, deciding to do the family PC first I used the same boot which had brought up an error on MY PC in my families PC and it worked like a charm. Not a single issue and Windows 7 64bit was installed within the hour. USing this new platform I created a -new- USB boot disk thinking that if I made a 64bit boot off a 64bit system it would have more luck ... No it didnt.
I've tried all sorts of BIOS options but every time it just brings up the same error, I attempt to change the 64bit bootsect.exe to a 32bit one and it didnt bring up the error but then told me files were corrupt. I have unfortunatly only got one ... long ... answer left.
I install windows 32bit again, then use that platform to clean install 64bit windows7 but I doubt that'll work.
For the record I KNOW I cannot upgrade from 32 to 64, I WANT to do a CLEAN INSTALL!

I turned on my Sony vaio laptop and it got stuck on the Starting Windows splash screen. I tried to boot in safe mode but it loaded a bunch of files and then just stopped and never went to safe mode. I tried the system repair but after nearly 14 hours that didn't work either. System restore, scannow and chk dsk didn't work as well. Now I'm trying to reinstall Windows but it says disk read error and it won't load any further.

I can boot up ok. But the boot drive makes clicking sound sometimes and makes the computer slower, especially when waking up from a sleepI tried using Acronis to clone the drive. It crashed as soon as the drive makes the first clicking sound and nothing is cloned.ince I can boot from the drive, if I use windows explorer to copy all the good files including the hidden files to a new drive, is there a way to then "sys" the new drive like in windows XP to make it bootable into windows 7

Few days ago I install a Windows 7 on my HP Pavilion dv6000. It was ok for the first two days then started to get a message saying their is an error in system 32, and wants me to run f something utility (cant remember what it was). One night the computer was running fine, and shut down fine. When I start it up the next morning on boot I got a black scream message saying "disk read error occurred press ctrl+alt+del to restart" Doesn't help when I restart it. Then I burn a trail version of windows 7 onto a dvd from Microsoft website, and tried to reinstall windows during boot by pressing F9, selecting boot from dvd, but end up back at the same error message. I spend hours reading all over the net about this problem, and realize it could be one out of many problems. only understand about half the stuff I read

I'm getting this every time I boot up my computer. It happened after I had my computer on "sleep". When I woke up and tried to open my laptop, it shut off and showed me this:
Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem:
1. Insert your Windows installation disc an restart your computer.
2. Choose your language settings, and then click "Next."
3. Click "Repair your computer."
If you do not have this disc, contact your system administrator or computer manufacturer for assistance.
File: BootBCD
Status: 0xc0000001
Info: An error occurred while attempting to read the boot configuration data.
It simply takes me to the same screen when I hold "F8". So I cannot get the "Repair your computer." Option. I do not have the windows installation disc. Also, all I can do is basically start up my computer and it takes me to that screen every time.

im getting that message upon startup. Im running windows 7.It requests for the windows recovery CD to be inserted, so when I put the CD in to boot I get a "windows is loading files" then a starting windows with the windows logo then just a black screen with a cursor, I left it like this several times for at least an hour an nothing happened.I can't press F8 to access safe mode etc, nothing will happen.Pressing F12 to boot from CD just does the same thing as putting the CD in normally.

I have built my own computer and I have a ASUS P9X79 Pro motherboard, an Asus GT440 graphics card and a Corsair 120gb SSD. I'm trying to get win 7 to install on this brand new SSD. No other drives connected. The BIOS which has been flashed and is up to date finds both the DVD drive and the SSD. I've set boot priority to the DVD drive and I keep getting this MSG below. My SSD is brand new and this would be new install........ Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. o

So it all started last night. My computer was unresponsive, and after clicking "shut down" a few times to no avail, I decided to do a hard reset. I didn't think anything would happen, but afterwards it just wouldn't boot back up. It goes to the windows logo and stays there. I don't get any errors, it just hangs there. I have tried many things, so far nothing has worked.
I have tried booting into safe mode. This does not work, it gets stuck at classpnp.sys and stays there. I have tried booting from the windows 7 disc. This does not work, after it loads the disc it will hang at a black screen. I have tried switching from IDE to AHCI. This has worked, but not fixed the problem. When booting into safe mode it will crash instead of hanging.
When booting from the windows 7 disc I can almost reinstall windows, however I get the error "Windows could not format a partition on disk 1. The error occurred while preparing the partition selected for installation. Error code 0x80070057." When attempting to restore windows to a restore point I get the error "The system image restore failed. Error details: Windows backup failed to read from the recovery volume. (0x8078002F)"
I have tried connecting the SSD to a different windows 7 computer in a attempt to reformat it, however just plugging it in would give the same problem to that computer. So, is my SSD toast? Did I mess it up beyond repair? Now system repair will not hang on IDE, but still gives me the same errors. Also, now it says missing operating system. Not sure how that happened.

I'm getting this error after a forced shut down. I'm told to insert installation disk and repair but I don't get this option, I'm just returned to the same error message. I have tried restarting and loading windows from the installation disc. I'm told that windows is loading and the windows logo appears but after a while it goes to a black screen with only the mouse cursor showing.

I'm trying to get a Toshiba satellite L300D to start Win-7. It gives an error message:
"An error occurred while attempting to read the boot configuration data"
Not really sure what that means, but my guess is thats a file that it isn't finding. My pic isn't very clear, the Status is 0xc000000f, again not sure what that means. This machine has been running and well behaved for a long time.

What's the best type of DVD to use for read-only and read/write applications? I'm a little out-of-date on this, haven't bought any in awhile. I remember things like DVD-R/RW and DVD+RW and such. I have a new machine running Win7, and an older laptop running XP.

So this morning my computer was working and I went downstairs to grab something, came upstairs to find that it was off. When i turned it back on my computer ressponded with the "An error occured while attempting to read the boot configuration" problem. I popped in my installation disc to see if maybe I can repair it or even if all else failed just reformat and reinstall. Well when I get windows won't even reconize my operating system or the SSD/HDD that I have in there. I've wandered through the forums trying to find a solution and I can't seem to find a solution. Bios detects both SDD/HDD in Bios configuration but when I go to windows repair/install it doesn't even recognize them as being there. I've tried unplugging all other drives except the SSD (the SSD being the one with windows installed on it).

I just bought a new HDD since my 500gb drive wasn't big enough. I bought a 1.5TB drive and I wanted to use both drives. First I tried to transfer my Windows install to the new drive, I started getting some errors while booting up after a few hours. First Windows froze during the boot screen (at the point where it says Starting Windows... and normally the moving logo should appear). So I changed some boot priorities in BIOS and then I got a different error. The one where it asks if you want to start Windows normally or want it to check for problems. Whenever I tried to check for errors it froze during loading. When I picked start Windows normally it worked. Even when I had to reboot for a program. Then overnight I got the error again. I fixed it again and decided to just do a clean Windows install on the new drive.
During install all went well. No problems after rebooting as a result of installing programs or updates whatsoever. Then again overnight It showed the "Disk read error". Tried to fix it the same way but it didn't work. After changing BIOS boot priorities to only boot from the Windows drive it froze up during the Windows screen again or I got the error to run Windows normally or check for problems. This time I couldn't choose an option there, like my keyboard was frozen. So it always picks to check for problems and that doesn't work.
The fix I found this time was to use my Windows 7 disk and choose to repair my Windows. Problem is that it has to restore it to a restore point. But at least I got into Windows again. Even after reboot. However the next morning I had the same thing all over again. Again fixed it with Windows cd. Turned it off, waited about an hour, turned it on again and again it freezes during the Windows startup screen.
My guess would be that there's something wrong with the HDD since I never had the problem before I placed the new one. I'm thinking of returning to the store with it but maybe someone here has a solution.

TLDR: I get the "A disk read error occurred" error but the system disk is readable and checks OK in the recovery USB. So, I have two hard drives--a terabyte drive with some data on it and a smaller drive with the Windows 7 installation on it--and a USB drive. I made the USB drive into a recovery USB using the instructions here Installing Windows 7 System Recovery into USB Flash Drive | Raymond.CC Blog with the addendum found in the comments. I made a system image of the smaller drive via the control panel and then put the image in the terabyte drive. I then replaced my smaller hard drive with a new drive of a comparable size.In order to restore the drive, I booted into the recovery USB, formatted the new hard drive with ntfs, made it active, and ran wbadmin start recovery -version:xxx -items:C: -itemtype:Volume -backupTarget:C: -recoveryTarget: where C was the terabyte drive and D is the new drive. I may have the drives mixed up here, but I assure you I had them correct when I actually ran the command
After a reset, I got some generic error so I went back into the bios, and set the new drive to be at the top of all boot lists, and then rebooted. It was at this time I got the above error. I feared that my drive was actually DOA, so I booted back into the recovery. I did a D:;dir and saw that all of my old files did indeed exist, so I figure it was a boot issue. I ran the boot repair utility in the recovery menu and it said there were no errors and I should restart. I didn't restart, and instead ran a chkdsk D: /f and found no errors. I did a bootsect /nt60 /all /mbr and restarted and still nothing changed. I even tried a "bcdedit /timeout 10" and I do not see the boot loader before getting this error. Not sure if that is expected or not but I'll throw that in here.

We are running a small network with a NAS and networked PC's. The PC's are all running Windows 7 Ultimate. One PC will open files already open by others and does not notify that the file is in use. This user enters information into the file, saves and closes. When the original user (accessing the file first, sometimes adds information) saves and closes the file, the changes from the second user are lost.
