I find the aero snap feature of windows 7 really useful, just not all the time. What I would love is for a feature where the 'snap' kicks in that I could press a key (ctrl, alt, shift something like that) that would temporarily disable snap so that I can position windows where I want.Is there anyway of achieving something like this, either natively or through third party software?
I'm looking for something like this to occur. Instead of having just two screens side by side in Windows 7, it'd be awesome to have more or to customize the screen sizes and shapes as well.
Why does Aero snap cut off half the Windows Media player 12 video? -dual sreen display is not on. Example: When i snap videos up or to the left it maximizes.
I was messing around with some custom themes (I know, I know, but I'm pretty familiar with the process and I try to take extra precautions) and for what seems like no reason, I cannot resize Explorer (not IE, the actual file explorer) windows and if I attempt to use Aero Snap, absolutely nothing happens--I can maximize, minimize, etc. though. However, if I use any other program, I can resize and I can do snap, so obviously the problem is only with Windows Explorer. Another weird issue (besides System Restore not doing anything) is that I even installed another custom theme because I figure that whatever files it gave me would probably fix up the explorer issue--and now the theme is installed but I still can't resize or use snap on Explorer.
I would like to slide my icons closer to the edge and bunch them up more. I don't see a "snap-to-grid" attribute anywhere, but that's what I think is happening.
I want to give the ability to the user group to turn off instantly aero (using either the right click or normal shortcuts described in the tutorials) without revealing my administrator pass to them (or have to be there to type it).
This also is a solution for x64 apps (That have grayed out these options in compability tab, it is a win 7 bug) in occasion of my network with no expert users...(If there is a solution, I will combine an x64 app with an turn off aero in a single shortcut )
I am currently looking a way to enable Aero in my machine. (as note, currently I am missing the Aero Glass, Aero Peek, and Aero Flip.
I did a clean install of Windows 7 on the machine. Because my screen is WideScreen, at first the graphics are all large and mushy. But at this point I HAVE AERO!
Then, I installed the driver for the gfx card, which was SIS UniVGA3 v.3.85. After installing and restarting, I get the normal resolution (1280x800) but NO AERO.
I thought this was driver problem, so I downloaded UniVGA5 v5.07, UniVGA5 v5.20 (which is the driver for Windows7, according to the site), and the SiS driver update from Windows Update, all of which didn't enable Aero for me.
I am completely stumped on this. I just don't get why the heck I get Aero WITHOUT driver, but no Aero with drivers.
if I can temporaily deactivate in a LAPTOP the function keys (F1, F2 and so on, normally dedicated to functions like dimming, changing volume...), so I can use them for gaming? some games need that keys, but I cannot use them because they do something else...
I have two internal 750GB HDs - one is partitioned to C (Windows) and the other D (data). The other is E and simply a mirror backup of D which I do once a day.
The problem is that the E drive goes to sleep after XX minutes but some applications or processes (e.g. Empty Recycle Bin) want to wake it up before they work, which means a delay of ~10 seconds as the E drive spins up - very annoying.
How can I temporarily disable the drive until I need it for the once a day backup?
Ever since I've built this computer, I have failed to figure out where this small problem is coming from. Here is an example: I will be browsing the internet and all of a sudden (whatever task I tell the browser to do) will freeze, while everything else remains operational (mouse, other programs, etc.). After about 10 secs average, it resumes what it is doing. Now this goes the same for any other program I am in, for instance: my game that I play will freeze up temporarily, and i can alt-esc to return to windows and everything is still fine there but the game is still froze, after about 10-20secs, its resumes what it is doing. Unsure if this is just a driver issue or a hardware conflict.
After quitting an any application ( with 'x' tab) windows 7 (W7 U sp1 x64) temporarily freezes (.5 -5 sec) in a manner that mouse can't moving, screen color little changed, but after that everything back to normal.
This happened on a previous computer running Vista Home. The cursor will temporarily freeze/hesitate with the new hardware recognized, sound alert. With the previous computer, after much grief, it was determined the processor was failing.
This is an entirely new assembly with Windows 7 - 64 bit installed.
Mobo: ASUS m2n68-am se2 CPU: amd athlon II x2 245 Socket AM3 (938) Bios: american megatrends INC - version 0704 - 05/19/2009 4 gigs DDR2 Nvidia Ge Force 8800 GT Creative SB X-fi Sound Card
All drivers are current. No matter what mouse I use, this cursor hesitation with the new hardware sound alert happens and is happening with continuing frequency.
I set up an alternative wireless mouse, and I'm currently switching back and forth, when one fails the other one works.
So I have an administrator account for maintenance purposes and I also have my frequently used standard account. Usually, when you right click on a program, for example: Spybot S&D There is an option to "Run as Administrator". And if you click it, it prompts for an admin password.but for me, it does not ask for an admin password, it just ignores the fact that I clicked that completely, and runs it as a standard user.
This happens whenever I need admin privileges for something. I cannot elevate my privileges on a standard user account. It used to work properly, until I changed my account type to standard, and enabled the Administrator account.
My netbook will bog down horribly. Rebooting clears things up - but only temporarily. This is a Toshiba NB505 Netbook running Windows 7 Starter 32-bit. Below are screen shots of task manager and msconfig.
I need "pfussorgproperty.dll" to run ScanSnap Manager for my old fujitsu ScanSnap scanner fi-5110EOX. This program ran perfectly on Windows XP on my 9 year old PC.I am attempting to install the program on Windows 7 Home Premium, running on a Lenovo H330 i5 with 8 GB RAM. I have the old disks, but cnnot open the cab files independently to see if the file is there. I've installed and uninstalled the old progams without the file appearing.I have downloaded installed and reinstalled the new program and updates from fujitsu, but this file does not appear. There is no information on the web site about this file and no telephone number to call for support either. Search of the fujitsu site does not produce the file or information about it. When I try to start the Scan Snap Manager, I get an error message indicating that the above file is needed. When I turn the scanner on and try to run a document through it, the document runs through and then I get a message indicating that the above file is needed.

My laptop has an inbuilt web cam. It is working well with Skype but I do not see it in order to use it to take snap shots. Can someone explain how I can use the camera to take snap shots
I am running 2 monitors on my Win 7 computer and I am trying to figure out hoe to snap a window to the sides where the monitors meet. Im sure there has to be a keyboard shortcut for this.
I have applied settings in control panel to make my mouse snap to default in dialogue box. I have done this a number of times. It still doesn't work, except for usually in print routines where it snaps to the Print button.
My printer keeps giving me the error message "A printer error has occurred, turn off the printer, then press on button to turn on. See your documentation" I have unistalled it held down the on button and cancel button at the same time to print a test paper, but still can't get anything to print.
I'm new to Windows 7 and currently am running 7 Pro on my PC although there are a lot of things that I do like about 7 there are a lot I don't. I tried to customize my PC with a paid version of WindowBlinds. It is a 7 theme and compatible but it still has some of the Aero items still attached (light blue shading on bars, highlights and the like).
