my htpc is setup for live tv so it wakes at 3am to update the guide etc. i noticing every morning when i wake at 7am the pc is still on. basically wont return to sleep. if i start the pc from an off state and wait 15 mins it will go to sleep as per my sleep settings. but it wont after waking to update.
last wake confrims mceupdate is waking the computer, how do i check to see what is stopping it from going back to sleep. Nothing out of the ordinary is running.
I've went into multimedia settings and checked off to allow the pc to sleep even when sharing media.
It will not honor the "Return to Sleep" timeout value that is in the registry - when the Power Plan is set to High Performance. If this plan is in play - and I need the machine to wake for - say - a backup at 2:00am...the machine will wake okay - and then NEVER go back to sleep.
I'm using Windows 7 build 7000, I have problem: When I put computer to sleep mode, and when I press any key to "Wake up" the computer, but it don't return.
I am running Windows 7 Pro 64bit and am having an issue with the computer returning back to sleep. At the moment, I have hybrid-sleep enabled, and if I schedule a recording while the computer is powered down in the hybrid-sleep mode, it will wake itself to record the program. However, I'd like the computer to place itself back into its previous state after the recording is complete. So far, I haven't been able to figure out how to do this. The computer wakes just fine but will not return back to sleep. I'll add that during the waking/recording process, the computer has not been touched to "wake" it up, if you will. Is there a setting in the power options that I need to check that I haven't seen?
I have a Win7 Ultrabook. I'm using Areca backup software to backup my personal data.I created a Scheduled Task to run my backup weekly.I set it so that it would wake from sleep to run the task. But I'm having trouble finding a setting to tell it to return to sleep if it woke itself up. Is it possible to do so?In the alternative, is there something I can insert in my batch file (the scheduled task runs a bat file) to tell my book to enter sleep mode?
My Windows 7 64-bit laptop crashes when I return to my computer after sleep/hibernate.
I cannot set up symbols on MS debugger (after many attempts) I have attached screenshots of cpu-z (both tabs) and my event viewer which lists 24 critical failures, all event ID 41: "The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly."
p.s. Dunno if this is important but the machine is a Sony Vaio but I have uninstalled all sony bloat ware (except Vaio Control Center)
One of the Mac faithful is considering a switch to Windows 8 when it comes out. Right now, I'm typing this up on my Macbook Air running OS Lion with an iPhone 4 in my pocket, but after looking at the new changes in Windows 8 I am considering switching back to Windows entirely next year as I find the Mac OS environment SUFFOCATING.I was wondering about two critical features that the Mac have that I'm not sure that Windows 8 will have as well. Will there be gestures/multiple full screen apps on Windows 8?That's about the only two things that are convincing me to hold on to the Mac for now, but they are AMAZINGLY convenient for me. Not such a fan of Launchpad or Mission Control (rather buggy) but those things are critical to me.Two-fingers back-and forward. Three-fingers to switch between full screens. And there is even compatibility for a whole host of customized gestures that I use extensively. For example, I've grown so dependent on the trackpad that I now use copy/paste/back/ forward/bookmark/esc/tab switching/tab closing on it, to name the most important ones. I even have gestures to open applications for me, like Safari/Word for Mac/Mail/Notes/Documents/Downloads and gestures to duplicate the window snapping that I liked in Windows 7. And I honestly couldn't live without it now, even if I find the Mac environment severely limited in scope in terms of compatibility with many games/applications.
Also the full-screen applications would be efficient for real estate and task management (etc: I can gesture to the regular desktop from full-screen Safari in about half a second). and is a must-have.There are a number of issues I have with switching to Windows Mango/8 phones as well, such as better outlook task sync, TellMe compatibility with tasks and the issue (for me) of getting Bloomberg for Windows Phone, but as this is a Windows 7 forum I won't get into detail. Other than those three issues I think the interface is great, anyways. So yeah, that's basically my thought process about switching to Windows from Mac.
Windows randomly started having problems returning from hibernation and I cannot figure out why. Any time it returns from hibernation the screen is black but it has a backlight to it so I can tell it's on and I can hear the discs spinning so I know it's working. I have to hard boot it to get it back. I tried increasing the paging file size in virtual memory. I have 8GB of ram and I increased my paging file all the way to 16GB just to be safe. Reinstalled video card drivers.
i just played true the new wolfenstein game and i absolutly loved it! so i bought the old one: Return to the castle wolfenstein. tho im having huuge problems whit it.[code] The thing is when i start the game, it instantly shuts down and i get message that WolfSP.exe stopped working. When i try the multiplayer mode the screen just goes gray? i only care about the single player, i know Windows 7 got problems whit punkbuster but i do not care, i just want to play the single player. And yes i got all the newest patches, tryed reinstalling whit no patches, tryed all compatible modes etc. and run as admin.
I know basically how to create custom folder icons by going to a folder to "properties" and "customize" "change icon" by using ico formatted icons in Windows 7 64bit; but how do you keep the custom icons from disappearing when you move them to another computer? I did find a set of already made icons and they don't disappear when you move them to another computer, so there must be a trick to it.
Ive re-installed windows twice since the pvr stopped working but ever since I just cant get the drivers to install no matter what. I use Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit SP1.
I have a netbook that I am thinking of returning for an exchange. The problem is that I have used Anytine Upgrade to install Win 7 Home Premium instead of the out-of-the-box Starter version. If I get a replacement netbook with Starter on it, will I be able to use the same activation number on the new one or will it ring up "Tilt"? If I need to revert to Starter to return this netbook, then how do I do that? There are too many subsequent restore points to be able to go that route. The one that would take me back to starter status has disappeared.
The computer will not return from waking. The machine is fully updated and power settings are correct. Mouse and keyboard have been enabled to wake the computer. The issue is one of several, sometimes the monitor will go to sleep and either completely ignore the request to wake, nothing happens no HDD activity light fans are active but show no change in speed with keyboard input. Or, the monitor will go to wake and looks like its receiving a signal (Monitor light will change from orange to blue) but remains black. Again with no HDD activity. Or if i turn my back for a few minutes (ALWAYS WHEN IM NOT LOOKING!) the screen will be a nice blue hue and will not show/accept any input. I've disabled hibernation and Hybrid sleep. Switch from S3 to S1 in BIOS. Im hesitant to keep the HDD from powering down since this computer will be used heavily by our sales staff. Put the computer through a very thorough diag and ll hardware passes. I also initially thought the problem was the system image and used another known good image to restore the machine.
Icons appearing on Windows7 taskbar after return from screensaver or from sleep mode (this problem appearing as per twice in a day). For example: Avast Antivirus icon and GoogleTalk icon.... If they appear, i cudn't do anything with these icons, as they are non-responsive... Cudn't close the icons.. I have to open avast/gtalk to close these icons...
How can I fix the Notepad function on Win 7 Home Premium 64 bit so that you get an automatic carriage return when you reach the right hand end of the page? This new version doesn't seem to have any, and just carries on writing right off towards the right into infinity. This makes copy harder to read as you have to keep scrolling along to the right as you're reading and if you have to edit what you've written you just end up with a mess. If you make the carriage return yourself it still doesn't work out right and you end up with twice as much editing. The old XP version of Notepad automatically made a carriage return at the right end of the page and was simple and straightforward to use.
I'm using Dell Inspiron 1440 Laptop for the past 1.5yrs. I bought with windows xp & converted to windows 7 professional. But now I'm getting display problem like screen colour changes to blue & return to its original during working. I have tried all updates but still the problem pending .
I had a little problem with my computer opening .exe file. I had it made by mistake to open with Adobe Reader, but I managed to fix the opening part, but icons on the desktop still show the Adobe Reader sign.
i need to restore my Acer to factory settings, what i need to know is simple, If i select "Restore Your Computer To Factory Condition", do i need to have a windows 7 disc to finish it???? or to reinstall the OS? or does it do that all on its own? because the laptop came with it pre-installed.
System does not freeze in safe mode but it does freeze in safe mode with networking. I made a thread a while back about a new laptop i got - basically had different sorts of BSOD and freezing. Can't remember if BSOD were present in diagnostic mode , but the random total freezes were (require restart). Don't know if i will succeed in returning it but i need to know if it is hardware or software because if i send it one more time in service and it's fine (physically) they will make me pay for it and shipping (to another country).
I have a Dell Inspiron Mini 1011. It has installed on it Windows 7 Starter 32 bit. I'm trying to do a complete system reset on it to wipe everything and bring it back to factory settings. The computer doesn't have a cd/dvd drive. I don't have an external cd/dvd drive. The computer doesn't have a restore partition. From what I gather I need to download or create the iso for Windows 7 Starter.I can't find this iso. I can find the iso for home premium and professional, but not for starter.
Basically what happens is there's a sudden slowdown in computer performance. For example if I'm listening to a live stream, watching a video, or playing a game it will suddenly all go into slow motion for a few seconds and then return to normal speed. I know it's more of a global problem because I can see it happening with other programs, too. When a web page is loading the load speed may suddenly go very slowly for a few seconds, or even if I'm typing in Microsoft Word I'll keep hitting keys, and the keystrokes will be logged, but no words will appear for a few seconds and then it will suddenly have to catch up.
What I've tried to do: A friend suggested my CPU was overloaded, but I checked my CPU usage and it's always quite low, as in below 50% as far as I've ever seen. Someone else suggested defragmenting my hard drive, which I did using TuneUp Utilities, but if anything that made the problem worse, because now in addition to slowing down sometimes things will just stop for a few seconds, or web pages will time out but when I reload them they work fine. My machine: I'm using a Lenovo Ideapad, intel Core i7, 4 GB RAM.
Whenever I press the sleep button on my computer, or when I leave it idle and it goes to sleep by itself, I get a blue screen of death. I would really like to solve thiNow, this computer came with an AMD video card, but I uninstalled those drivers and took out the video card and installed a GTX 570 from EVGA. The drivers are up to date, so I am pretty sure the new hardware is installed correctly. Furthermore, it was not doing this for the first few months of having the video card installed. This is very recent, so I don't understand what it could be
I know there are a bunch of sleep problems out there but I couldn't fine one similar to this after doing a forum search. Running Windows 7 Ultimate. Sleep used to work ok but now when I choose sleep from the start menu, the screen blacks out but the computer doesn't actually go to sleep. The fans, activity lights, hdd lights are all still running. If I move the mouse the screen comes back. However, if I just wait for the sleep timer to kick in then the computer does go to sleep (all fans stop running and all lights go out). I'm not sure what caused this. I use my pc as an HTCP and now when I push the power button on the remote the pc does not go to sleep.
I currently run Windows 7 ultimate 64bit, 8gig ram, intel i7-2600k cpu, and my OS runs on an OCZ SSD (all specs are in my profile)Sleep mode is set to S3 in BIOS, I have hibernation disabled (so no hibernation.sys file on my c drive)When I put my computer to sleep then immediately wake it up, the login screen shows instantly, I type in my pass and it loads in like 0.5 seconds. When I put my computer to sleep but wait for around 1-2 hrs before waking it, it shows the login screen instantly but after i hit login, it gives me the Welcome spinning circle thingy for like 20 seconds before I can see my desktop. That's like longer than my entire boot-up time excluding POST.Event viewer doesnt show any performance delay, and I dont think my OS drive (OCZ vertex 2) has a cache so I have it disabled. I'm sure all my mobo drivers and graphic drivers are up to date.
When I start IE9 I can hear two voices simultaneously saying something about clearing the cache. I have removed IE9 and re-installed it, and cleared the home page tabs list, but the annoyance still remains! It is intermittent and never occurs with Firefox or Google Chrome. Any ideas on how to return IE9 to a "silent" startup?
