Wireless Internet Card - Connecting Fails / Speed And Ping Fine
Jan 3, 2013
I have a problem with my wireless internet card (Qualcomm Atheros Ar9485). It has trouble connecting to websites. Speed and ping is fine, but it is the connecting that often fails. I have done tests on my other computer and on my iPad, and everything works fine. I know that there is something wrong with the wifi card, because when I plug in my ethernet cable, everything works fine. My wifi drivers are up to date. I can still browse the web wirelessly, but 30-60% of the time, the connecting fails. I have had this kind of issue before (All browser slow/not loading pages) and I got the problem solved by switching wifi channels.

I am having a confusing time trying to figure out why my internet went from 10+ Mbps down to <1 Mbps after simply downloading a wireless card driver. From the beginning:My wireless download speed was 10+Mbps, and I was using the Dell Wireless 1505 Draft 802.11n WLAN Mini-Card. This information is found in the Device Manager, under "Network".The driver for the card was 5.30.x.y (I can't remember the specific version number, but I do remember it was 5.30.something.something). Upon navigating to the Dell webpage, I wanted to see if there were any drivers for the same wireless card that were more updated, to perhaps increase performanceI navigated to the page for my computer (Dell Latitude D830), here. That page is for my model laptop. You'll notice that, in the drop down for "Operating System", there is no option to select Windows 7.
Regardless, I navigated to the driver under "Network", the Dell Wireless 1505 Draft 802.11n WLAN Mini-Card, and downloaded it. It was version 5.60.188.1, from 11/9/2009. This is where my problem began. After installing the driver and rebooting, my internet speed instantly went to below 1 Mbps. I have no clue why installing a later wireless card driver would mess up my speed. My only hypothesis is that the driver I downloaded is only compatible with Vista. Do I just re-download driver version 5.30.x.y or something to get it back? Why did it get so slow?

My desktop (windows 7 ultimate 64bit) has been able to connect fine to the internet until I got home from work this morning. My laptop is connecting to the same modem fine through wireless (along with my wii). The modem I am using is Motorola SB 901. When I rightclick my connection on my desktop and hit troubleshoot problems, I get 'local area connection 2 doesn't have a valid ip configuration'. Same thing happens when I switch the ethernet cord to local area connection 1. When I go to control panel, network and internet, network and sharing, the connection map at the top stops between my pc and the network (which is now labeled as 'unidentified network'). Here is a list of what I have done so far to try and resolve the issue:
1. Replaced the ethernet cord with one I know is working
2. Full scanned my pc for viruses
3. Disabled all firewalls and virus protection programs
4. Restored my pc to a previous save state
5. Reset winsock with cmd via these prompts: netsh winsock reset catalog and netsh int ip reset reset.log hit
6. This attempt is unfinished as I am getting stuck. I am attempting to setup a static ip to attempt to resolve the issue, but when I open cmd and type ipconfig/all, the default gateway under my local area connection is completely blank. Here is what comes up with ipconfig/all:
C:UsersPaul>ipconfig/all
Windows IP Configuration
Host Name . . . . . . . . . . . . : Paul-PC
Primary Dns Suffix . . . . . . . :
Node Type . . . . . . . . . . . . : Hybrid

I built a new computer last August. Everything worked except my wireless. Move on to today, and still, the only issue I've ever had is with my wireless. Cabled internet works fine. Wireless does not. I've even upgraded my motherboard in this timeframe too.
Current specs are:
Mobo: Asus Crosshair IV Formula
GPU: HD 5870
CPU: Phenom II X6 1055T
RAM: 4GB of Ripjaw somethingblah
I've tried one internal N network card, and 2-3 sticks. The current one I'm trying is a TP-Link TL-WN81N 300Mpbs N Network adapter. I've used two different routers. My PS3 & iPhone connect fine. My Xbox 360 and PSP both struggle, sometimes connecting but usually not.Wireless on this computer, the issue, connects to the network fine. But it won't enable a internet connection, I never get wireless internet. Every now and then it'll work fine like nothing is wrong and other times it'll be super slow but literally 99.5% of the time it will be connected but with no internet.

I have a laptop, toshiba satellite l500n, 7 Home Prem 64. So no browser I have seems to want to connect to the internet wireless or lan. I can ping sites like Google. And Windows was able to do updates. I tried reinstalling the browsers, no avail. netsh winsock reset, nothing. ipconfig/release/renew/reset, nothing. Reinstalled the network drivers, nothing. So I decided to load up ubuntu from a USB drive and with it's firefox, the wireless didn't work but connected to the router it was able to connect/

Last Friday my main desktop crashed (lost power to the machine) and on restarting the PC was unable to "identify" the network. By identify, I mean, when using "Network and Sharing Centre" on the basic network information page, the PC shows "Identifying" under "active networks" - no matter how long I leave the PC.
PC details
Model: Packard Bell Power x-30
Processor i7 870 @2.93GHz
RAM: 8GB
O/S: Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit)
Modem Router details
Netgear N300 Wireless Dual Band ADSL2+ Modem Router
The main desktop is connected to the modem router (via Ethernet). The modem router is showing no sign of any problems itself, all the dashboard lights look ok (i.e. power is on, port 1 shows the Ethernet connection in place, both wireless bands are lit, the DSL is lit and so is the internet). The household contains a number of laptops which continue to work ok wirelessly and/or wired through Ethernet. Even mobile phones are accessing the wi-fi ok.
The DNS Server address looks ok, as that is the address of the web page to the router. I cannot access that web page (address) via the main desktop, but I can from other devices ok. Having gone through Device Manager the Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller is showing as "working properly". I have tried pinging the DNS Server address, and that fail. I have gone through a system restore to a previous point (before the day of the crash) but that seems to have made no difference either.
I have attempted to set the IP addresses (for TCP/IPv4) directly
IP address 192.168.0.3
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.0.1
And therefore forced to set the DNS Server address too
Preferred DNS server: 192.68.0.1
But I don't know what to set for the alternate DNS Server, so left blank. This seems to step me forward, in that the device/network is now identified. However the internet access is still not work, as the "DNS Server is not responding".

I have just upgraded to Win 7 Ultimate x64, I had no problems installing Win 7 (fresh Install) The computer is a I5 2500k, Asus P8P67 m/b, GTX 560ti GPU, 8g ram, OCZ 120gb ssd, I haven't connected the 2 tb storage just yet, Not sure if you need that info or not.The Problems seems to be that the Browsers are very slow or may not even load a page. I loaded Utorrent to see if the connection was dropping in and out but while downloading it stays at a steady rate. Which would rule out the Connection to the internet I would assume.
1. I have turned of anti virus still the same.
2, I have turned of firewall and still the same
3. shot myself and it still the same
4. turned of Microsoft Security Essentials still the same
5. Also done a fresh install of windows just to make sure
6. Was connected to a server, but i have bypassed that, Now connected straight to the modem/router.

I reinstalled windows 7 home premium on my notebook, and downloaded the NIC & other necessary drivers from the manufacturer's website. I have no other software on the N/B. When I connect the LAN cable I can successfully ping my router, but not www.google.com. I can see the other PC's on the network. The icon on the bottom right shows a yellow triangle and I have no internet access. I have an automatic IP & DNS server set in the IPv4 & v6. I have a desktop PC running Windows 7 on the network that connects to the internet with the router.
I can't understand how a newly formatted PC struggles to connect to the internet (via LAN), when my username & password is already setup on my router.
Details of notebook:
Packard Bell, i5 430M, 4GB RAM, 640GB HDD, ATi Radeon HD5650 VGA, W7HP 64

so i finally decided to install Windows 7 x86 - everything went well - put all the standard stuff on there etc - i rebooted many times because of installations and updates
on my last reboot it just got stock in the bios screen (verifying dmi pool data..success! etc)
so i rebooted, same thing, took the disc out, same thing - turned off boot devices same thing
tried to use window's useless repair tools (whatever happened to repair install?) which didn't help - so i decided to format and reinstall - then it says it was unable to do that (partition error or something)
the annoying this is...is that this EXACT..i mean EXACT same thing happened when i installed vista sp1 from scratch - this happened - and to fix it i had to leave my pc open overnight with the hard drive cables all unplugged..in the morning with my fingers crossed i tried the installation again - and it worked.
my d: always disappears (single hard disk sata 233gig (250)) - sometimes it'll vanish from my computer and stuff - but this can't be the problem because the d: is a single drive on its own - my c: is a25gig partition from my e: - so it's completely unrelated.
does it matter how i replug the sata cables (2 of them) into the mother board? - they're both being recognised anyway
this is really annoying though - mostly because there isn't really an explanation - and because this random stuff always happens to my pc! - is it my hard drive because that's the only thing that would half- make sense

I've been using the Windows 7 Ultimate release candidate as an evaluation copy for a while now with no problems. I have an ATI radeon mobility X1600 graphics card in my laptop and I'm using an external monitor through my laptop's DVI port. I bought a product key for Windows 7 professional and therefore had to reinstall that version because I'm using Ultimate as the evaluation copy. I have each version on its own partition so I can switch back and forth between the two.
The problem is that the newly installed windows professional copy will not recognize my ATI graphics card and I can't use my external monitor. It has the standard windows VGA adapter drivers installed. I've installed and run the ATI file i downloaded off their site, '9-9_beta_win7_32_dd_CC', and this accomplishes nothing. I looked in device manager on the working ultimate version and the card is installed correctly so I copied all of the drivers and files it says its using and then tried to update the driver for the standard windows VGA adapter and it says it can't find any better drivers than the current ones.
I remember initially having this same problem when I first installed the Windows 7 Ultimate RC several months ago but I have no clue how I was able to get it to work... Any ideas?

I have just moved house and been given the internet details by the landlord. The provider is Virgin and the landlord asked for my MAC addresses of each device to allow access to the internet and gave me the password. I managed to connect on my iPhone and my housemate who is also running windows 7 off a laptop can also connect. However the network does not even appear in my wireless list. Several other wireless networks in the area are being detected but not the one in the house. I know it's not hidden as I can connect on other devices.
I have tried a manual setup with the network name, encryption etc and tick "allow connection even when network is hidden" but all to no avail. Unfortunately I have no access to the router as the landlord has that next door, however seems strange it would be a router issue if the other devices connect fine. I have been through all the settings with my housemate and ensured we have the same setup and am now thoroughly baffled and annoyed.

I have a 1 yr old dell vostro 3400 and for most of that year the wireless worked perfectly. Recently I have no wireless: I cannot set up or connect to anything, and nothing is visible. When I go to control panel etwork and internetmanage wireless networks, is says "Wireless is not currently enabled." I know about the little toggle on the laptop's exterior, and that is in the correct setting. I ran a hardware check from the BIOS and all relevant hardware is properly working. When I go to registry editor though, some of the files in SystemCurrentControlSetservicesWlansvsParameters have no values set to them (I didn't set them like that). how I can reenable wireless or is there a list of default working values for those files?

I purchased a new laptop, and have been having numerous issues with windows 7, including the wireless internet being insanely slow. I've tried other wireless adapters to no avail, and every other computer in the house, be it wireless, or not runs perfectly, with the speed tests all running about the same, while this laptop runs at about 1/4 of the speed. I can only assume it's some sort windows settings, and not anything to do with the ISP or the router because of such.To add, and I don't know if this will be of any use, but while doing regular browsing, the speeds are fine, you can't really notice a slowdown. But when viewing videos or downloads, it tanks. I've noticed my download speeds start out, and stay at their max speed (about 1.1MBps) for say 5 seconds, only to sink to about 250-300KBps for the remainder.

I can connect to wi-fi, but not to other the internet. A wired connection will not connect to the internet either. Other devices (ipad, laptop, directv box, etc... all connect fine. Using the network map I can see the other devices on my network from this pc. If I run in safe mode with networking I can connect to the internet.
Windows firewall is disabled, using McAfee firewall. I momentarily disabled all firewalls and still unable to connect to the internet. I have scanned the computer (in safe mode) with McAfee, Malware Malybytes, & the MS Windows malicous software scanner. All clean. I was thinking virus or malware, but have done everything I can think of.

I recently switched from XP to Win7. Most things worked fine, except for the internet. At first the "Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller" didn't work. But I found a driver for that one. Now there are just two things left: the "PCI Simple Communications-controller" does not work and the "Intel H5 Express chipset LPC interface controller - 3B06" isn't working either. I found these problems in the Device Manager.

My computer is on the internet, which is working fine - except that if I go to the Network and Sharing Center, it says that I am not connected to a network. The major problem this is causing is the fact that I can't use Windows Media Center to stream anything over to my Xbox, because it says that I'm not connected to a network: Running the troubleshooter does nothing. So far I've: Uninstalled drivers, and reinstalled from my Motherboard's disc which was working fine inititallyUninstalled Apple's Bonjour applicationDisabled and re-enabled the network adapter multiple timesRan ROUTE DELETE 0.0.0.0 for the hell of it because I read that somewhereNothing has worked.

I mainly use Google Chrome as my internet browser and about a week ago it started acting up. It would get stuck on a page or would repeatedly send me back to my homepage. I was able to use Skype, Ventrillo, World of Warcraft, etc. My AVG wasn't catching any problems, but the problem was happening. I would restart the computer and the browser would work fine for a little while, then stop.Following CNET's advise, I installed CCleaner and Malware Software and ran them.No problems detected.I found a similar forum here. Browsers not working, internet connection is fine And tried everything that was suggested to that user, but still no luck with my computer.I spent an hour+ with AVG Tech Support trying to resolve the issue to no prevail.

How is it possible that computer to computer transfers are exactly 10mbit/sec but my internet connection is working fine at 40mbits with the same computers and network adapters? One computer is asking me to activate because I put the CPU back at stock from an overclock. That couldn't be it, right?I have two Windows 7 computers and a linux NAS server, all gigabit, and each device on the network is connected with only one network adapter. The system was working flawlessly with gigabit speeds for a year, and all I did was replace two motherboards.By disabling/reenabling the network adapater in windows or restarting the router, I can sometimes get the LAN speed to behave like real gigabit and do sustained 800-900 mbit transfers, but it soon gets eratic and sometimes pauses for a few seconds.I can eclipse 10mbit/sec with my internet connection with both computers 100% of the time, but for some reason computer->computer and nas->computer transfers are capped at 10mbit/sec most of the time..

I just got a new broadband line installed at home today. The thing is, at home we have two laptops (one is a Samsung 5 Series Ultra with Windows 7 Home Premium x64 and the other one is a MacBook) and an iPad.
Both the MacBook and the iPad don't have any issues when connecting to the Internet. However with the Samsung laptop (which unluckily happens to be mine, both the other things are my girlfriend's ), while I don't have any troubles when connecting to the wifi network (I even have full 5 bar signal and it says I'm connected to the internet at 150 mbps), when I try to load any website (even light ones, like Google or Gmail) it takes ages for my computer to do it, and most of the times they don't even load at all.
I don't know what could it be, since when I connect to other wifi networks (like at public places, or even when I use my cellphone as a hotspot) everything runs perfectly fine. That makes me think that the problem is with the router, however both the macbook and the iPad don't have the same issue at all so, on the other hand, the issue may lie within my computer.
