Desktop/settings Reset On Update?
Under my USER file, I replaced the locations of all the main folders (Desktop, My Pictures, My Documents, etc) to A:UsersMEetc instead of being on C:UsersMEetc. This is something Windows 7 supports really obviously by letting you right-click on "My Documents," then go to "Location," and change it to another location. However, upon auto-restarting from an update while I was asleep, it decided to "Prepare Desktop..." and then when it was fully booted, my entire user account was blank. There was a default theme, no shortcuts on desktop or start bar, all program history wiped from Start menu. I restored the locations of everything in my User folder, but there are still problems. I can't drag files between folders -- I can CTRL+C then CTRL+V, but I can't actually just drag them. One of the programs in my task bar (Norton) won't open when I click it, only when I navigate through the start menu. Also, after restarting once, the desktop loaded as completely black, with no images, and going to Personilize, I cannot choose ANY windows themes. It says "This theme cannot be applied to the desktop. Try clicking another theme." I can't get it to display any desktop images. Lastly, I cannot change the default desktop items (My Computer, Network, Recycle Bin). No matter what I do, all of the icons are there and cannot be turned off. Under "Previous Versions" on my C: drive, it will let me explore previous versions of the past two days, but it won't let me restore them entirely. I'd like to do this, given my whole computer is freaking out for unknown reasons. I'm doing a virus and spyware scan, but I don't think that's what went wrong. I don't want to reinstall right now

Cannot Change Homegroup Settings?
have 1 computer operating 7 ultimate and 1 operating home premium cannot connect to the laptop under home premium. On the laptop when i go into change homegroup settings all boxes except printers are un-ticked. When I tick all the boxes then 'save changes' all seems ok until I go into change homegroup settings again I find all the boxes except printers are un-ticked again. I can't seem to keep these boxes ticked - I suspect this is why I cant access the laptop within the homegroup.

Cannot Change Settings Hyperlinks
I can hover over the link but I do not get the cursor to change into a "fist" it remains as it would if writing a Word document.I cannot recall changing settings and I have searched through Yahoo help but cannot seem to find a solution. I though perhaps that it could be that I have e-mails in plain text not html, but cannot find where to check. However I do get images in e-mails and so don't think it is plain text. How can I restore the function to be able to click hyperlinks? I am running Windows 7, 64 bit version, and Yahoo Mail classic.

I tried to do a restore, but only date it gives is today's. Can I use the Windows 7 disc to do a repair or will I have to do a complete re-install? Also, after screen came back, I kept getting a "Windows Validation Failed" even though I clicked Validate online and it said "Validation complete".

Windows Security - Can't Change Settings
The laptop is an Acer Aspire 5732Z, the specs are: CPU - T4400 RAM - 3.00 GB OS - Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit, no SP1 yet the hard drive is about 250gb, with most of that space free, and just 1 visible partition. It has 2 problems 1) It takes a long time to boot up, it used to be excessively slow in windows but removing Norton 360 seems to have solved that part. I can time it if needed. 2) A lot of the programs on the system are blocked by windows security, causing the orange "These files can't be opened" error message to pop up. These include gfxUI.exe (the UI for the onboard graphics), the installer for Crap Cleaner, the installer for Service Pack 1, the add new user window, and a load of other files I don't have a list of. There's only 1 account on the system, and it's an admin account. I've tried to use the run as admin option where possible. Here's what I've done so far: - Reinstalled intel graphics drivers, no effect - Ran a startup repair, after an hour it hadn't loaded. - Uninstalled norton 360, system speed improved by several hundred times, otherwise no effect, and bootup time still seems as long. - Gone into windows firewall and reset all settings to default, no effect. - Tried to change the settings in internet security, set everything low except for my computer, which is locked, no effect - Gone into internet security and clicked set all zones to default, no effect I tried to install SP1 (after failing several times before due to the system being too slow to install it), security blocked it, then apparently deleted the installer. I tried to make a new user account, to copy the registry settings for the security to overwrite the faulty settings on the main account, the new user account window was blocked by security. In a cmd window run as admin, used command secedit /configure /cfg %windir%infdefltbase.inf /db defltbase.sdb /verbose gave a progress report, completed, no effect. I backed up important data, tried to reinstall windows from scratch, the installer doesn't load, after clicking install now it just starts loading and doesn't stop. At this point, I thought it must be a hardware issue, so I tried to run some diagnostics from a bootable CD. It wouldn't read the CD.

WMDC Says Dont Have Permissions To Change Settings?
am trying to use the WMDC to get some files off my Winmo 6.1 phone. The display is shot. When connected to the PC, it wont just show up as a drive because in the device manager it is a USB mass storage device with this error this device cannot start.(Code10) I cant use active sync on XP because it doesnt allow the connection until a question about duplicate files check box is checked, but I cant see it. A VZW tech told me that WMDC will connect to the phone without that problem. But when I check "allow data connections on device when connected to PC", it tells me I dont have sufficient permissions. I am the Administrator on this computer (in user accounts, my user account shows as a standard account and wont let me change it).
