Windows Explorer Only Allows "Move", Not "Copy" To CD/DVD Drive

Oct 13, 2012

Today I tried to burn a disk of mp3 files as I've done many times before. When I tried to copy the files from the C drive to the D (CD/DVD drive), Windows Explorer only would allow "Move," not "Copy". I tried to copy with CTRL+Right Click and that didn't work either - when I hover over the icon for the D drive it says "Move." I was able to copy and burn a disk (in CD format) with Windows Media Player, and the CD drive works fine for playback. Also, when I plug in an external hard drive Windows Explorer allows copy of files to the external hard drive. No other recent changes have been made to the computer.

Move Or Copy Drivers To A New Hard Drive?

Sep 6, 2012

I recently purchased a new notebook which has Windows 7 HP on it. Because of all the bloatware put on it by the mfg and since I have a spare hard drive I wish to do a clean install of Windows. Since I do not have the drivers anywhere but on the original HD, I need to transfer them to the new HD. I tried using DriverMax and found it to be very unsatisfactory. What are the other options?

Copy/Move Stops At 100%?

Aug 2, 2012

Every time I copy/move files to USB sticks it run like it should but when the bar fills up completely it stays there for quite some time before if actually finished... It says Time Remaining: About 5 seconds and 0 bytes left but it stays like this for like a minute or so but it wasn't allays like this... This started happening a month ago... I did't change anything it just started happening.

If I stop the process (click the x) it stops but the file is already copied/moved and if I stop it at that stage it doesn't get corrupted

Can Only Copy/move One Group Of Files At A Time

Jul 15, 2010

Is it just me or has Win 7 stopped the ability to move more than one group of files/folder at a time?

For example, I'm trying to transfer some music album folders to a USB or another folder. I drag and drop the first album in there, but I have to wait to the progress box to finish before I can drag the next one/group in there.

I KNOW this was never a problem with XP, where every group of files/folders your moved/copied would open a new progress box, each doing their own thing. Why would such a basic function have changed?

Basically what happens: Explorer has stopped working: restart the program.Afterwards, either I can't move my cursor, or the moves very slowly or in different directions but still slowly. The only way I've been able to get out of is by Ctrl Shift Esc Task Manager and then Alt Tabbing my way to process list to kill WerFault.I dug around through event viewer, but this the most recent relevant crash I found.

Lost Copy And Paste Functionality In Windows Explorer

Mar 14, 2012

I've been unable to copy and paste or drag and drop files in Windows explorer for a few weeks. The problem is as far as I can tell limited to copying and moving files. These functions work just fine in other programs.

I can copy and paste text just fine, and I can drag a file from a .rar archive to the desktop. I can however NOT drag and drop files from the desktop to a folder.

If I try to copy and paste using Ctrl-C/Ctrl-V or the right click menu all I get is some noise from the hard drive and no other reaction.

EDIT: Copying and pasting files works in safe mode.

Windows Explorer Doesn't Refresh After Copy / Rename / New Or Delete

Jan 29, 2012

Usually, when you create/rename/delete a file/folder in the directory in Windows Explorer, it will add/renamed/remove automatically without refreshing. However, I have this issue where if you do any of the above, it doesn't refresh until you press F5. I tried to see if its a driver issue by booting into Safe Mode but it didn't work in there.

Explorer Crashes When Attempting To Move Taskbar From Right To Bottom?

Aug 24, 2011

So, recently I decided to move the windows taskbar to the right side of the screen to see if I liked it better over there. It turns out I did not, so I tried to make it go back to the bottom. Every time I try to move it to the bottom, now, explorer.exe crashes and the taskbar remains on the right. The weird thing is, I can move it to the left no problem, but not to the top.So top and bottom taskabar is fubar'd for some reason. I didn't install anything funky and I don't visit any sites that would install viruses (I only regularly visit Facebook, Google, XDA-Developers and DeviantArt, all which I believe to be safe -but maybe I was wrong)[CODE]

Can't Copy Or Move Files - Error Message "open In Other Program"?

Dec 29, 2011

When moving or renaming files I frequently get an error messages informing me that "The action can't be completed because the folder or a file in it is open in another program". This typically happens with the second or third folder I try to rename or move. Navigating away to another folder and then coming back or closing explorer and reopening it usually helps but on the second rename or move I'm back to square one. I've been reading and searching on the forum and this is what I have tried so far:stop the windows media player network sharing servicepause indexingtemporarily disable antivirus softwareused the system file checker to check integrityall to no avail. This is without a doubt the most annoying "bug" I have run into so far as it makes it virtually impossible to get anything done or organised. Has anyone found a real solution to this problem that does not involve manually unlocking every single folder before working with it (using 3rd party software

Copy Old Favorites From Old Drive To Windows 7 Drive

Jul 14, 2009

This is very frustrating now...Yes, I know it´s because of my lack of knowledge about Windows 7 and security/permission rules and settings. But still.

Hopefully someone is kind enough to help me out a bit here and maybe I´ll understand better (hopefully)

I´ve just installed Windows 7 and this is what I want to do:

Copy my old Favorites-folder (Win Explorer 8) from the old harddrive to my new folder in Win 7.

I had some problems accessing my old folder in My Documents on the old harddrive but i changed permission and ownership and finally I could access it and copy the folder. But. It seems impossible to copy it into c:UsersxxxxxFavorites

It just says "You´ll need to provide administrator permission to copy this folder"

I´ve disabled the built in admin account and tried every fix I´ve found but I still receive the same message. How can I fix this??? Seems like a simple thing to do but i just cant get it to work.

My original idea was to create a system image and restore it to a different hard drive with windows repair (after all, this is what you would do after a hard disk failure). However, it only allowed me to restore the image to the original hard drive.

Any ideas?

Move Drive With Windows 7 Easily To Backup Computer Without Activation?

Nov 7, 2012

I would like to come up with a way to provide a full backup computer to my customers (offline, process control application). Currently doing this with WinXP and a hot-swap RAID-1 enclosure. If anything in computer1 dies, can quickly move the cables and the drive over to computer2, boot up and keep running. Now moving to Windows 7, more strict activation issues. Getting a separate windows license for each computer is not a problem, but how to either change the license key easily after the swap, or avoid activation altogether? Typical system is offline, possibly abroad and would like to make the failover as easy as possibly for customers.

Re-placing Hard Drive With The Same Copy Of Windows 7?

Feb 22, 2011

Recently, my Laptop which is running a student offer Windows 7 Home Premium decided to mess up on me by telling me that "Windows detected a hard disk problem" asking me to start the backup procedure and replace the hard drive. The problem began occurring when I started to install my old Sims 2 collection. Whenever I start the laptop and log-on, I receive the message about the hard drive every time. I also get a Blue Screen Of Death when trying to install the rest of my Sims which I'm halfway through installing.I do have slight suspicions that the problem is malware related but I've checked using,Kasperski's tdsskiller application;Malwarebytes' Anti-malware,And AVG Free 2011,None of these applications really indicate that the cause is malware so it's probably safe to say the hard drive really has met its premature end. Especially seeing as its only a year old. However I need to find out if I still have a warranty and that the hard drive is covered under it.It would also be useful to know if there are any good diagnostic tools to check the hard drive with. I've used SeaTools by Seagate and It failed a "short DST" test. The information from other diagnostic tools would also be useful to know to determine the cause of the problem.I have selected a hard drive replacement which has a better storage capacity and I think the same interface type. Samsung HM500JI 500GB 2.5" Hard Drive SATAII 5400rpm 8MB Cache,Samsung HM500JI 500GB 2.5" Hard Drive SATAII.The next problem is actually swapping the hard drives and putting my copy of windows on the new one. The copy of windows I'm currently running was one bought with a student offer online and the product key was emailed to my old college account which has now been removed from their databases. However, it may be on record with my bank and with Microsoft that I bought it. Is it possible to retrieve the product key and deactivate windows, replace the hard drive, then reinstall windows with that same product key? If possible I intend to swap the product key so I can have a key for 64bit windows if required then possibly put the old hard drive in an external enclosure.

[code]...
