almost every time I open windows explorer, it crashes...

I read a post earlier that recommended opening command prompt and typing in: sfc /sannow

Did that and the results are: "Verification 94% complete. Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation"

Windows Explorer Constantly Crashing And Restarting On New Laptop?

just got myself a new laptop and windows explorer is constantly crashing/restarting when I browse or use the explorer in any way. Examples are when I browse around, click save as (which crashes also the program, a big issue for me) or even when I installed the windows SDK just now it crashed 5 times during the installation.I searched around a little, but so far no luck. I tried: - Running Safe-Mode (problem persists) - Do a cleanboot - do a virus check - copy explorer.exe from c:/windows to c:/windows/system32 - Update all drivers.- uninstall firefox OperatingSystemMS Windows7HomePremium64-bit SP1InstallationDate:28October2011,23:58CPU IntelCore i7 @2.00GHz SandyBridge32nmTechnologyRAM 16.0 GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @665MHz(9-9-9-24) Motherboard ASUSTeKComputerInc. Windows 7 Explorer Constantly Crashing (folders With Images In Them)?

Sep 24, 2012

Windows explorer crashes with the error message "Windows Explorer has stopped working" whenever I click on any folder that has a RAW image file (.CR2) or a TIFF/PSD image file in it. It then shuts down and restarts. It only happens with these large image files, not video, audio, or pdf files.I'm running Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium. My computer did two lengthy Windows updates over the last week when I did system restarts, so maybe that has something to do with it?I spent the whole day yesterday trying different suggestions I found on the web and nothing has worked. Here's some of the things that I've tried that have been unsuccessful:

- Selected "Always show icons, never thumbnails" in "Folder options / View".- Scanned my computer with Malwarebytes. Same problem after the scan/cleanup.- Tried do a System Restore on 6 different restore points and none of them could complete the Restore successfully.- Tried to do a System Restore on the same restore points in safe mode and it still couldn't do it.- Ran SFC/ scan, still does the same thing afterwards.- Updated my video card driver.- Tried different image codec packs.- Uninstalled all image codec packs.- Some selective startup or clean boot stuff through "msconfig" that didn't help.- Plus a few other things that I can't even remember (it was a late night!) to use Photoshop and work with these images for my line of work so I'm kind of at a standstill until I get this resolved.

Notepad, Calculator And Windows Explorer Constantly Crashing

Nov 25, 2012

I've been having a few issues recently with some programs with reside within the system32 folder, as said in the title paint, notepad and calculator. Explorer is having a different issue so I'll discuss it later. The 3 programs listed are constantly crashing. Notepad and calculator are having significantly bigger issues than paint right now, however they all have the same issue. Whenever I open one of these programs, it'll either be a few letter (numbers for calculator) and it'll crash, with the generic error message "xxxx has stopped working, Windows is searching for a solution". This problem happens consistently. Explorer on the other hand, is behaving oddly. Every couple days (sometimes multiple times in a day) my toolbar will not pop itself back up (I have it set to autohide). While the trace of the hidden toolbar is visible, no moving of the mouse (even when on the desktop to avoid 'always on top' programs taking priority) on the toolbar will bring it back up. This usually results in just killing explorer.exe and re-running it.

Windows 7 Pro Crashing Constantly?

Feb 19, 2012

I'm at my wits end here trying to figure out why this system is crashing.I'm using the fully updated Windows 7 Pro and the for some reason In have programs that are using 40-50% of the cpu just prior to a system crash. IDvault was the first progam to do this so I went into safe mode and removed the related Norton program. Then Google Chrome did the same thing so I removed it. Now Steam is doing the same thing. After each removal the system works fine for a short period of time. Without removal it simply crashed without any error message. After the last crash the sytem diagnostic in safe mode found that 'superfetch' was not running. After a reboot to regular windows the system worked again.I have not been able to reload Norton the program will download but not run.I have run Windows Defender and Microsoft Safety Scanner but they have not located any virus and the system just crashed again but this time without any associated high cpu usage.

Windows 7 Constantly Crashing On High End System?

Dec 3, 2012

I have just built a "Dream Machine" for the purpose of graphic design, and other intensive activities (though not gaming, as this is a work PC!).I won't go into all of the specifications, however the PC does use a Gigabyte X79-UP4 motherboard, and I have 16 Gigs of Patriot Viper Extreme (PC 17000) memory installed. Initial FSB / RAM results are shown below:I also installed 2 x Samsung 830 SSDs in RAID 0!The hard drive transfer rates are truly out of this world -The read speed is close to 1 Gbps...almost made it!!!Now that I have built an impressive PC I am having trouble making it behave, it is a bit like a wild stallion, full of raw power, but quite frankly untamed!Windows 7 (x64) is constantly crashing, it crashes about every 20 minutes, and it doesn't seem to matter whether the PC is doing work or not.

I have setup the RAM to use an Xtreme Memory Profile, which runs at 2133 MHz, which is not an issue for my RAM (as this is the RAMs) natural running speed.*** At any rate I plan to test the RAM for a good 48 hours using MemTest to see if there are any issues on this front ***I am thinking that there may be a conflict between the motherboards RAID chipset and the SSDs, in so far as perhaps the motherboard can't keep up with the SSDs.

Dell XPS 630 Constantly Crashing?

Aug 12, 2012

I figured I'd give it a shot. I apologize in advance if this is not ok.I recently returned home from a weeks absence and now my XPS 630 is completely unstable.Problem: Boots to windows, works fine for a random period of time (usually 5-10 minutes) and then crashes. When it first started it was blue screening and like an idiot I didn't get any information off of there. Now it just goes completely black and makes a long beep until I manually power it down.Event log gives me an event ID 41 Kernal Power.Changes I've made since I've been home.

1. Reset my router so that I could reconfigure it to be a little more secure.

2. Added a new laptop to the home group (NOT the machine having problems).

3. Installed Itunes.

4. Installed NewsRover.

My first step was to try and system restore back to before the ITUNES. That failed because of a lock up. I then system restored back to when I installed itunes which was successful. The problem persisted. I then just went for a re-installation of Windows 7 (was being impatient). This was successful. Problem still occurs.I ran a a diagnostics test from the Bios and received this

BSOD: Bad_pool_caller! Constantly Crashing

I had posted another forum post on the games section where I kept getting this bluescreen error when I played WoW. However today the issue occured even when I didn't run the game so I think its just a general problem now.I wiped my entire computer, reupdated all my drivers and reinstalled windows 7 and wow to try to fix the problem, but no luck. I though the problem was my memory at first, so I did several memory diagnosis tests and tried different sticks of RAM (current using 8g) and they all passed and no errors came up on the windows memory diagnosis tests. I also went to the alienware website and re-downloaded all the drivers for my M17 model, and I updated windows about 50 times.I will provide my system specs and my minidump files below for you techy's to take a look:

Display Driver Is Constantly Crashing?

Jan 24, 2012

for about 2 months now my display driver is constantly crashing. I have to boot up in safe mode to stop the worries of the crashing. What'll happen is, I'll be doing something simple, possibly even playing a low graphic game such a Minecraft oropening a .txt file, and the screen will freeze and start flickering black. It'll come back to the desktop and say something along the lines of "Realtek Display Driver has crashed and successfully recovered." Yes, it's recovered, yayy, but no about 10 seconds later it'll keep crashing, until the extent of where the screen just is stuck on a black screen. I'm really getting angered by this, if any help can be provided, please post below.

Sony Vaio Applications Constantly Crashing/sound Lags?

Mar 24, 2012

A few days ago my computer started acting a bit wonky, certain applications running slowly and eventually crashing. I assumed this was caused by some sort of Trojan or other virus and I scanned my computer with Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and MSE. Nothing came up for MBAM but there were three issues with MSE, two I then rooting in some java app. I thought this was the issue but it continued. The computer starts up fine and I haven't had BSOD so far, but not application, even explorer browsers, freeze up within 30 seconds of use. The issue with the sound lagging was just at first noticed with a few games I played. The announced messages would stutter for a minute even though it was a 3 second phrase.I'm posting this from my phone because I'm running a chkdsk scan on my computer again, but nothing showed up the first time.

Windows Explorer Keeps Crashing?

Nov 27, 2011

A couple days ago I left for a trip with the family and did my routine shut off and unplugging of all electronics in the house (few years ago a lightning strike while I was away took out my washer and dryer). As soon as I came home and booted up my computer it was apparent something was wrong. After taking 15 minutes to load no matter what I clicked several seconds later an error message would appear saying that windows explorer had crashed leaving my desktop devoid of icons and not letting me do anything. After about 30 minutes windows explorer would reboot only to crash once anything was clicked. I attempted to run malware bytes and super antivirus but nothing would load and after waiting for a while windows explorer would crash once again. I attempted to use cntl+alt+delete to use the "new task" button to reboot windows explorer but as soon as task manager appears, windows explorer crashes. Following the next course of action I rebooted the computer in safe mode along with safe mode only to have windows explorer crash right after I clicked on anything. As a last resort I pressed the "window's repair" only to wait 15 hours and come up with nothing?

I have tried changing the thumbnails and that worked to an extent as I am now able to actually get into the folder but when I click on the video files windows explorer still crashes. System Slowed Down And Explorer Exe Constantly Failing

Jun 1, 2011

The issue is that all system functions, opening start menu, running control panel, opening folders or running internet explorer run extremely slowly, taking around 5-10 minutes to load or failing completely. Explorer.exe constantly fails and tries to restart. Safe mode seems to work like normal, no speed issues, he has since said it has run slow in safemode (he's not exactly happy right now, and so is snapping at me when i ask him about it so this could be a lie). The CPU is running at 1-2% constantly, i checked performance monitor idle time for it and it is consistantly showing high idle time so it's not like its thrashing. I have limited knowledge of his pc specs, i know he's running a 2.8ghz quad with 8gb ram (speed unknown but i doubt it'll have a relevance). I ran a sfc /scannow but came up with no errors, he doesn't have a restore point set (helpfull much?) and we cannot really access his antivirus effectively due to the whole speed of the system (2 hours before i managed to successfully open event viewer for example) Event viewer shows a number of issues which i will be able to provide more detail about tomorrow morning when he has calmed down a bit. We've tried to run the windows 7 disk however theres not a fix option, i'll be doing manufacturer default restore at some point probably if no solution is found (failing that a format and reinstall maybe?) however im hoping someone online can shed some light on the whole situation, something i've missed maybe. The biggest issue is it being so difficult to try to fix with it taking such a long time to open anything. This is a new custom built pc (from a website) and im assuming the components themselves are ok, (cpu or hdd broken and it wouldn't start, same with ram but im assuming a warning would of shown, and unless he's lost 7gb in one go i doubt it would show much performance decrease...) the system seems cool enough from general feeling around it, cold air being sucked in and blown out (obviously while idle but even so).

Windows Explorer Crashing And Restarting

As soon as I right-clicked on the file, Windows Explorer crashed. That was the first time it had happened in a week or so. After everything restarted, I tried again & I was able to cut & paste the mkv.

Windows 7 Explorer Continuously Crashing

Aug 7, 2011

I'm running Windows 7 home premium (SP1) on a brand new Asus U36SD. I did my usual thing of uninstalling some useless bundled software & ad-ware like games etc. and then just running windows update on the system. I noticed the problems a while after installing both Firefox and VLC, as I hadn't really had to use explorer prior to that.

So first I was afraid it was a virus, but Kaspersky's free to use virus scanner cleared that fear. The next thing I tried was ShellExView, and used it to turn off all the non-MS context menu handlers. It didn't help at all. So I tried to use the registry fix by Andre Ziegler, and it went into the registry all right, but I don't get any dumps. So that's not working out.

System restore doesn't want to function, as it claims I have anti-virus software installed, which I don't, as I've removed the free Kaspersky's software. The computer is without an optical drive, so reinstalling the system would be quite a pain, and seeing as I've not really done anything significant to it yet (I hope), I don't see how it would really help me.

Or how to get the dumps to actually show up? I'm really in a bind, since the crashing is constant and it's basically rendering the laptop useless.
