View 2 Replies View RelatedMy ASUS Notebook was running fine when I went to bed the other night and Windows 7 did an auto update. I logged on the next morning and all the USB, Network Adapter, and Sound drivers were dead. I checked, and it appears that a few of the components of the Windows update did not complete successfully (.Net framework, Silverlight, etc.), so I assume this has something to do with it. I assumed it would be no big deal to fix the drivers, but boy was I wrong. Here's what I've tried (and failed) to fix this.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have an Acer Aspire AS5251 laptop. I was in "Backup & Restore", running Backup. I went to bed after inserting the sixth backup disk. I woke up this morning and I had to login. So, after that, I noticed a popup window with a message saying that my windows update had occured overnight and my computer had restarted. There was also a Windows Backup Error Window indicating that my backup did not complete successfully.Question is, how do I get the backup to continue and not have to start from scratch
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have Windows 7 Pro 64bit set to automatically update the OS. Three days ago I lost connectivity on my shared home network that uses a Netgear WN2000RPTv2 wireless extender to connect to my Ruku which had worked perfectly to stream movies. (Amazon Prime). When I began to check out the systems for possible errors, I noticed that there had been updates for Netgear, several optional and one recommended. All failed with the error code of 80070103. I've tried unplugging my routers, did a hard restart to factory defaults, etc., all resulting in no change to the systems. The desktop pc connected to it is as follows:

View 9 Replies View RelatedI just installed a retail copy of win 7 on my laptop and have been experiencing some issues. At first everything worked fine but out of the blue my desktop/folders have not been auto-refreshing. Whenever I try to delete or create a new folder I have to manually refresh to the folder in order to view it. When shutting down my laptop it takes 5+ minutes and when my desktop is loading after booting up the laptop it takes several minutes for everything to load and for the win 7 chime.
Finally, it won't allow me to update. When I try to use the windows updater it hangs for a while on "creating restoring point" (which may be normal) but then permanently hangs on installing update 1/16 at 0%. If I try canceling the update nothing happens and even when I try to shut down the laptop it attempts to install the updates but hangs on update 1/16.
From researching these issues I've realized that the auto-refresh problem is not uncommon and has something to do with a network. This may be unrelated but these problems only started to occur when I was transferring pictures via a USB stick.
I bought a Asus U36J laptop back in April of last year and ever since then I have been beating around an issue that I dont seem to be able to resolve one way or the other. When ever the laptop is on battery and in battery saving mode it has my taskbar on autohide. If I turn that off, then it stays off right until it is put back into battery saving mode at which point it is "magically" ticked on again.
Is there no way to simply disable that feature, as its annoying me greatly. I know its tied into the battery saving desktop, and I want to keep the battery saving desktop but want a full taskbar all the time. I found a supposed fix to make that happen, and while it actually makes the taskbar appear all the time, it still is a bad hack as any windows I have open wont "attach" to the taskbar but attaches to the buttom of the screen.
So for the love of god is there no sane way for me to keep the battery saving desktop but get rid of the autohiding taskbar. Otherwise I know Asus most likely wont be my laptop of choice next time aroumd.
Auto check comes up 4 times right after windows7 starts up. But will continue to boot normally. BEreg Query comes up with this.

I'm out of ideas. I've been running Win 7 on this machine for more than a year without issues in updating etc. Now it will not search or update/install critical items. I'm running Symantec (even tried turning the firewall off without any success). I get an error code 80072F7C. When I run hijackthis, I get an error message that my system denied write access to the Hosts file. I proceed with the scan but am unable to produce a log file. I've included a screenshot from the windows update error as well as the error I get when trying to run hijack this.
View 1 Replies View RelatedThe update is called:
nvidia - Graphics adapter WDDM1.1, Graphics Adapter WDDM1.2, Other hardware - NVIDIA GeForce GT 425M.
After installing it, whenever my laptop tries to use the Nvidia card, I get a blue screen and the system restarts. I looked in installed updates to uninstall it, and it is not there. I did a system restore to four days before I installed it, and I still get the same effect. Lastly, I installed some older nvidia drivers that used to work using the clean install option, and I still have this problem.
A while back, after successfully downloading and installing some updates in the Windows Update, it prompted me to restart the computer to finish the update installation process. However, I continued to use the computer for quite some time before restarting it, and then when it tried to configure the updates on the start-up screen, it showed that it was not successful in doing so. In the past, I noticed that this would typically happen when I did not restart the computer immediately (or within a short time) after the updates finished and I got the prompt to restart. I would have to go to Windows Update and do it over again, and then upon immediate restart, it would always work properly. But this time, it did not, and I keep getting the 8000FFFF error message instead.
Also, now, every time I start the computer, it shows that it's "Preparing to configure Windows... Do not shut off computer" (presumably the updates that never got completely and correctly configured) in the start-up screen... gets to 35%..fails... shuts down (screen goes black)... restarts again... tries to configure again, fails again, shuts down and restarts again... tries to configure again, fails again, and finally it apparently gives up and says "reverting changes" and finally goes to the desktop.I've looked at the answers in several threads at the answers.microsoft.com forum that were started by people with similar problems, and also tried several of the Microsoft "FixIt" files on the Microsoft site, but none of them worked. I'm using Windows 7 Home Premium.

When I click download and install, it would freeze and stay there for a long time. I tried to use the Fix it application, however that gets stuck on "Checking Online for Updates" as well! What should I do? I also tried to update in safe mode, but it wouldn't let me.

View 1 Replies View RelatedA laptop of mine contracted a virus, and installed a fake antivirus program. I was able to uninstall the fake antivirus, but now I have another problem. Every time I turn on / restart the laptop, I get the message "Windows has encountered a critical problem and will restart automatically in one minute, please save your work now". The laptop then restarts, ad infinitum. Now, having done a quick google search, I see lots of reccommendations involving either going into Safe Mode or using the Advanced Boot Options. Problem is, I can't get the F8 menu screen to come up on the problem laptop. I have another laptop of the exact same model - this one is uninfected and I can get the F8 menu up just fine, so it's nothing to do with me mis-timing pushing the button. I have tried going into Safe Mode via the Boot options in msconfig, but alas I get the same error message in Safe Mode, too, and again my computer is forced to restart.
