View 2 Replies View RelatedI restarted my PC the other day (Dell XPS 8300) and then when it got the the Win7 login screen (the one where user profiles/pictures should be listed) a weird error message in wingdings font appeared. Eventually I learned to use a install/repair disc to use bcedit and bootrec from command line. Oddly, it seemed that my OS drive letter had changed from C: to E: . After a lot of research I removed a secondary hard disc I installed. The drive letter is now right, and the partition size seems right.y problem now is when windows starts I get an error saying that winload.exe cannot be verified. The error code is 0xc0000428. I've tried bootrec /fixmbr, /scanos, rebuildbcd/, /fixboot, with no luck. Same with start-up repair I understand that some people have been able to find a working winload replacement in /windows/system32 (sometimes called winload~1) but I don't seem to have luck.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have used a linux live cd to create an exact image copy of a 320gb hdd on an external HDD by doing:
root@ubuntu:/media/backup# dd if=/dev/sda of=2011-09-19.img bs=32256
9922896+0 records in
9922896+0 records out
320072933376 bytes (320 GB) copied, 8851.48 s, 36.2 MB/s
Windows 7 ultimate is installed on that HDD. I just want this image so if the hdd fails i can buy a new hdd and restore the image to the new hdd. However is there some disk signature problem if i do this? Because the new hdd would have a different disk signature from the one of the old hdd. I have read that this can cause an error message during boot along the lines of 'The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible.'. Do i have to manually edit the MBR using a hex editor to match the new hdd? How do i even find the correct signature of the new hdd?
As a UK lawyer it is essential have a signature with all kinds of regulatory stuff as a signature. Why is it so hard to create a signature in the new Windowsmail? I have read all the threads here for 40 minutes. I have done google searches. i have searched and searched in Windows livemail. I cannot find any Options or signatures boxes. I don't need any graphics in there. I just need some lines of text with regulatory information. I cannot even find an idiot's guide and I will not watch videos to learn as I am a words person. I cannot find a file menu. I cannot find any options. It must be lurking there. Thi sis the very latest version bought September 2012 in London UK. I have now in a sense spent a few hundred pounds of chargeable time just on this silly issue. No one's heart bleeds ever for lawyers but there must be a four clicks and you have your signature added surely within it.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI had to sign for a Windows Live ID, which I did. I then clicked on the button to have it send me a verification email. When I got the email, it gave me a whole bunch of information about using Live ID, but didn't tell me how to verify my account. I went back to the website where I was attempting to post the question, and hit "Sign In." It gave me a place to fill in my emai and password, which I did. It then sent me back to the page where I'd entered my question. But when I clicked on the button to actually post the question up came the box saying I couldn't do that without setting up an account. Then it sent me to the page saying that my account had to be verified, and referred me to the email which was supposed to tell me how to do that, but didn't. This appears to be an endless loop.

In the new layout there is not a "Tool" menu to bring up "options" from where you create a signature. However there is an "Insert" button which as well as being able to attach files etc shows a signature icon which is Greyed out. I have tried logging into email as administrator but it is still greyed out.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm having some problems with event viewer. When I go to open it, it gives me the "Event Log service is unavailable. Verify that the service is running." error. I've tried going through the steps Microsoft gives for creating new log files if yours are corrupted. Problem is, the .evt file doesn't exist.
I've researched the problem a lot and I do have UxStyle Core installed which is patching the files necessary to install third party themes, and I have heard that this may cause some issues with the event log, but everyone I saw undo any patching and even rollback updates, go to previous restore points, etc.

so i have my mums laptop which is a toshiba portege one of the old student laptops. it started getting the BSOD and then not being able to restart with it just keep going around in circles trying to boot saying that winload.exe is missing or corrupt with the error code 0xc0000001
it all requires you to be able to log into windows or safemode first. i have tried 2 seperate windows 7 discs that are proven to be good and an ubuntu disc and an xp and a repair disk. the windows 7 discs go to the "windows is loading files" and then to that error done it around 30 times. the xp and repair discs just stay on the blank screen with a flashing underscore and nothing will happen. the ubuntu disc can start up in a live session but when you try and install it it freezes at 5% and will never get passed it.
i put the hdd into another pc and done the command prompt partitioning and clearing as well as using gparted and went through all the discs again and all happened the same so i just went out and bought another hdd thinking that will fix it.
the new hdd makes no difference and i get the exact same results with the discs. i can get into the bios but i cannot get any further with anything, is there hope or is the pc messed up?
My Acer laptop is suddenly having this issue and will not boot into windows in any mode including safe mode. I tried using a recovery disc with no luck. I can get to the command prompt from the recovery disc and I tried fixboot and fixmbr with no results.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am having trouble installing Windows XP Mode on a Dell E4300 laptop with Windows 7 Pro 32-bit. For the record, I have installed XPM on multiple occasions without any issues at all, until now. Upon launching the XP Mode installer, it starts to deploy the temporary files but hangs at expanding 'sourcesxpm'. Then I get the following error: 'This installation package could not be opened. Verify that the package exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer package'.
If I try multiple times, I am sometimes able to get beyond that point where the XP Mode setup screen shows up, but then I receive an error during the installation process that says: 'Source file not found: D:xxxxxxxxxxxxxxsourcesXPM. Verify that the file exists and that you can access it'. I've checked everything I could with no avail permissions, Hardware Virtualization. I also installed it on an identical machine with the same setup. Then I got a hunch that the Windows Installer might have been corrupted. So I ran the command to un-install it (msiexec /uninstall) & got the same error message as above.
I am helping a friend out with her computer, she had one of those annoying viruses that say you have a bunch of things wrong and try to get you to buy stuff and a few others that I can't remember. I ran malaware bytes and got rid of them all. I thought that would be the end of it. She wanted Itunes and it would never install and the error message for it was related to windows updates. She purchased the computer last may and I was looking at the updates and all of the updates have failed since then, first being service pack 1. It wouldn't automatically do it, so I downloaded the standalone file and it would tell me it was unsuccessful and to restart the computer and try again. I downloaded the readiness tool, ran it, didn't work, ran it in aggressive mode, that didn't work. So I gave up and was going to reset it back to factory. The F8 command for the advanced boot methods does have "repair your computer" option but I click it and it just starts windows normally. Over and over. I made a repair disc through the windows options, and dell data safe, and when I boot from them I get the winload.exe file is missing or corrupt status: 0xc000000d and when I use dell data safe program to restore back to factory, it restarts and gives me the same thing. I have googled all day and searched forums for hours and I am getting nowhere. Resetting it to factory was going to be the easy way for me, and now I just want to throw the thing out the window.
