[BSOD] Unmountable Boot Volume?

Sep 18, 2010

Ok, my computer had been having problems before but now when i'm booting up my computer I get the blue screen that's says unmountable_boot_volume right after the starting windows screen. I cannot get windows to start in safe mode or any of the other advanced boot options. The only time I don't get the blue scren is when I try start up repair, which just causes a black screen with the cursor. I googled the problem and from what I can gather I Need a windows 7 disk to repair this problem but my problem is I have no disk nor can I get a hold of one. Is there some other way to fix it without the disk?

BSOD Error - Unmountable Boot Volume

Feb 6, 2012

find a way to repair the hard drive for my wifes <one-year-old HP Pavilion dm1 laptop so we can recover her data at this point in time the partition on the drive is inaccessible (to me at least).Heres a brief rundown of the scenario. On Saturday morning my wife woke me up to tell me her laptop had blue-screened while she was working on an online document, and would no longer boot into Windows. When the system is powered-up it seems to be going through a normal start-up process displaying the Windows 7 pulsing logo for a minute or so. Then is switches to a notice asking if the user wants to run start-up repair (recommended) or start Windows normally. If start-up repair is selected the system will eventually display the default Windows 7 desktop wallpaper, and the hard drive light will indicate activity for a couple of minutes. Theres even a mouse pointer that can be moved around but no dialogs, controls, or anything else will ever appear. We left it in this state for more than 30 minutes to make sure.

If start Windows normally is chosen the system will eventually blue-screen , with the error reported as Unmountable Boot Volume.I tried pulling the drive and dropping it into an external drive bay, but when I attempted to go into the main partition I received a notice that the drive needed to be formatted first (which I obviously didnt do).Ive also tried booting into a Windows 7 installation disk via an external USB drive (the laptop doesnt have a built in optical drive), as well as booting into the same from a thumb drive. In each case I selected Repair your computer from the menu, only to get to the same scenario as before with the default Windows 7 wallpaper displayed, but no sign of the System Recover Options tool/dialog so I cant even begin to try and repair the install. On the plus side, she finally seems to understand what Ive been telling her for years that she needs to regularly back-up her system. Unfortunately all her research and papers from her current studies at college are stuck on the drive and we really need to get them back.

Cyclic Redundancy Check, Unmountable Boot Volume?

Jan 15, 2013

Alright so I've had my computer for right over a year. Never experienced any problems. However, yesterday my toddler got ahold of my laptop for 15 minutes, i came back and he had locked the desktop and several files were opened when i typed my password and got back in. The computer was running slow so I restarted, when I restarted it would not load. When i got home i decided to reformat the whole thing. The reformat went fine until it was over and the computer restarted. It kept going in a loop. I could see there was a blue screen but before i could read it, it would dismiss it and restart all over. So i disabled the computer from crashing and restarting after the error so I could read the blue screen. The blue screen read Unmountable boot Volume. I found my system repair disk and inserted it. The Bios is showing the HD, but when i try to access it from my command prompt in my startup repair, it says Cyclic redundancy check. I do not have the windows 7 installation disk and have always reformatted from the system repair. I'm starting to believe my HD is fried, but I found it a little difficult to believe since he was only alone with it for 15 minutes and the computer has never shown any signs of HD failure ever

Unmountable Boot Volume Error On Clean Install?

Dec 6, 2012

The laptop was running slow and I decided it was time to clean things up and get her running like new again. Backed up everything and wiped the drive using KillDisk.Three and a half hours later when the process was done I popped in my Wndows 7 OEM disc only to be greeted with the dreaded Unmountable Boot Volume on that pretty blue screen . Tried several times but it's the same thing each time.

Unmountable Boot Volume Error When Starting Up My Computer

Sep 4, 2012

I received an unmountable boot volume error when starting up my computer last night and came to the conclusion that my 120gb ssd which contained the windows installation has failed.I still have my 1tb hardrive however, if I buy another harddrive or another ssd, will my computer work normally if I install windows with my recovery disk on the new hdd or ssd? Also, is it as simple as placing the new drive in and then installing a copy of windows on it or do I have to do some other steps prior to that?

Soft Recording Volume With Blue Yeti / Increasing Volume Distorts Audio

Mar 28, 2012

so i have a blue yeti, and i'm an online animator/voice actor. whenever i record audio on my blue yeti (or any other mic) i record about 4-6 inches from the mic, and turn the gain down enough that the audio doesn't peak as i yell or whatever. this is what you're supposed to do if you don't want your audio levels peaking and making your recording sound horrible and corrupted. however, afterwards, it means i have really quite recordings. not a problem right? now that it's recorded right, i can boost the volume of the entire clip afterwards right? wrong. i'm not an audio expert so i must be missing something. but why in gods name would the audio distort and peak after it's recorded successfully? it's all there, it's all clean audio. if i turn the volume on my speakers all the way up it sounds crystal clear! all i want to do is do that inside the computer so that when i upload it to Internet people don't have to turn their speakers so far up. but if i increase the clips volume in the computer, it distorts! it sounds awful! why?! i tried in sony acid and audacity and they both do the same thing! i can take sound effects, and recordings made by other producers and crank them up nice and loud, but mine just fall apart!

I was playing a video game earlier today and received a blue screen. When the computer restarted it got stuck on the windows splash screen. I have tried just about everything I can think of to try to fix the computer. I changed out graphic card, ram, power supply for different ones but no luck. Also tried booting to last known working setup. Even restored factory image and still no luck. The computer will not boot to any form of safe mode. I also have ran start up repair numerous times but comes up empty handed.

Blue Screen Of Death Followed By Missing SSD Boot Drive

Apr 17, 2012

I recently purchased an Asus U36SD laptop and replaced the hard drive with a Samsung 830 SSD. I built recovery DVDs and installed Windows 7 on the SSD using these discs. Everything had been working fine for almost two weeks, but last night I got a blue screen of death after sleeping my computer for the weekend. I have seen the BSOD after booting from sleep before on another laptop so this wasn't too alarming to me especially after ~72 hrs of sleeping. However, this morning when I woke my laptop from sleep, I got the blue screen and my computer hung on restart until it entered the BIOS settings after some period of time. In the BIOS my SSD was missing. I turned off my computer and took out the battery for a minute, and retried and was able to boot into Windows. Within a minute I got another BSOD and my SSD disappeared again.

whether this is likely an SSD issue or some other hardware issue? This laptop is a PAIN to swap the SSD in and out because you have to unplug fragile keyboard and touchpad cables to access it, so I am weary of opening up the laptop if I don't have to, but I do suspect it could be an SSD issue.

Laptop Crashes, Random Pattern On Screen / Blue-screen?

Dec 19, 2011

one day it suddenly crashed while i was watching a movie. it displayed random patterns on screen. kinda like part of the image from the video is on the screen then a black strip and random colors. I restarted the unit to safe mode and left it on and browsed the net and downloaded some big files for how many hours and nothing happened.. there are also times when windows is still loading with the windows logo on screen, it crashes. there are also times when the login screen is displayed and it crashes. it just crashes randomly! so i tried to reformat it. i deleted the partitions and created a new one, formatted it then fresh installed windows 7 ( my previous OS is windows 7 by the way) and started installing the basic drivers and after a few hours, it crashed again...thinking that the driver installed might not be compatible, i tried another fresh install of windows (same execution, delete partition, create, install OS) and this time, without installing the drivers, it crashed again after a few hours... sometimes it crashes immediately after turning it on from cold start!

Windows 7 Will Not Boot - Backup Failed To Read From Recovery Volume

Sep 14, 2012

So it all started last night. My computer was unresponsive, and after clicking "shut down" a few times to no avail, I decided to do a hard reset. I didn't think anything would happen, but afterwards it just wouldn't boot back up. It goes to the windows logo and stays there. I don't get any errors, it just hangs there. I have tried many things, so far nothing has worked.

I have tried booting into safe mode. This does not work, it gets stuck at classpnp.sys and stays there. I have tried booting from the windows 7 disc. This does not work, after it loads the disc it will hang at a black screen. I have tried switching from IDE to AHCI. This has worked, but not fixed the problem. When booting into safe mode it will crash instead of hanging.

When booting from the windows 7 disc I can almost reinstall windows, however I get the error "Windows could not format a partition on disk 1. The error occurred while preparing the partition selected for installation. Error code 0x80070057." When attempting to restore windows to a restore point I get the error "The system image restore failed. Error details: Windows backup failed to read from the recovery volume. (0x8078002F)"

I have tried connecting the SSD to a different windows 7 computer in a attempt to reformat it, however just plugging it in would give the same problem to that computer. So, is my SSD toast? Did I mess it up beyond repair? Now system repair will not hang on IDE, but still gives me the same errors. Also, now it says missing operating system. Not sure how that happened.

Also sometimes with only one browser window open and sometimes with 15 or more. Happens with both chrome and firefox. Has not happened with other programs as this lapy only gets used for surfing/email/forums etc. Sometimes happens while the computer is sitting idle right after boot. Very strange.

Reoccurring Blue-screen On Windows 7?

Jun 4, 2012

i bought this PC 2 years ago, i experienced a bluescreen now and then but at this time i didnt really care to look into it, as i didnt know much about PC`s Anyways, since about 2 months i bluescreen almost every second day.99% of the time i bluescreen while playing a game. (Such as TF2).I can tell when i am about to bluescreen, the sound starts to "crackle", with every third crackle i experience a little bit of a short lag (i would even say, its like a really short freezing but only just a milisecond). I ran Memtest and Checkdisk, Harddrive and Memory seem to be fine.My PC is free from malware.I started to read the minidumps out:They always show 2 or 3 different drivers causing the lag.One of them is ALWAYS ntkrnlpa.exe. The other drivers usually differ. Some driver that often shows up too is halmacpi.dll.
