Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 - Cannot Create Map Drives
Oct 3, 2011
I am trying to map to a network drive and I cannot, this is am hp laptop running Win 7 32bit ultimate, if I map to \servernamesharename, cannot map, I cannot even browse to select the servername, I can ping the two servers I have, I also have the local account in the laptop in the two servers which are still win nt 4.0 servers that only acts as storage servers, but if map using \serverIPSharename, then I can map to it. Is there any security settings that I need to change? I have others computers running win 7 6bit proff, and never had any issues like this.

I've been reading about issues with people having problems with their SSD's not being reconized by Windows 7 Ultimate.but my WD 600gig STAT III Raptor is listed as a SCSI as well. I assume the problem is with my Marvell Driver.I bought this 60gig OCZ Vertex 3 SATA III drive for a Boot drive and had a pain installing drivers for it on a clean install of windows. I plugged it, and my WD Raptor both into the 2 SATA III ports that I have on my ASUS Rampage III MB. I set the Drives to ACHI not IDE. Tried to install Windows, had to force windows to accept the Marvell Drivers...but finally got it installed. Now Im stuck with the OCZ SSD and the Raptor both at SCSI speeds...not able to get them reconized my Windows 7 Ult as SATA drives.Should I try uninstalling the Marvell and JBMicron drivers and let Windows try and install drivers that will work? Funny thing is, I know that windows is reconizing the SSD as a SSD because of the Disk Defrag has been disabled on it...and was able to get some info off the drive via Intels SSD toolbox....OCZ's tool box wont reconize it unless you use Windows drivers. I had to install the Marvell Drivers to install Windows, Windows wouldn't reconize either drive plugged into the SATA III ports.I've tried bout everything, even tried the reg. fix via the Windows Helper with no luck.

Just new here, i am right now installing my new-built PC with Windows 7 Enterprise.
Unfortunately, i have already some problems. My hard drive is a 1 TB WD and on setup i made a primary partition of 50 GB for Windows 7. I thought to partition the rest afterwards and there is the problem. The installation went without any problem, but in diskmanager i cannot see the option as i saw in XP to choose between a primary or an extended partition.
I wanted to make a large extended partition of the unallocated space and then divide it into some logical drives to hold my programs, pictures & films,... etc. As Windows 7 makes primary partition always i am limited to 4 partitions and that is not enough.

I have a new Toshiba Qosmio X770 laptop with Dual 120 Gb SSD drives. From the factory it had Win 7 Home. I upgraded immediately to Win 7 Ultimate x64. I set up the VM to use XP (Have to use XP because current dev projects with work are stuck in old ages on XP for the time being). I can run the XP Mode in VM fine and even Visual Studios functions fine. There is a problem with the 3rd party drivers for the USB comm boards we are using, the USB drivers apparently cannot be shared across the VM environment for the particular ones we are using.

I just finished putting together my computer, installed Windows 7 Pro 64 bits. However, both of my hard drives (one SSD, one regular HDD) are showing up as external drives (plug-and-play). If I click the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon, I could actually "eject" both of my hard drives.

I bought the full retail Win 7 Ultimate and trying to upgrade Windows Vista Ultimate to Win 7 Ultimate, both 32bit. I get to the Expanding Windows files to 21% and nothing. The program is still running and stuck at 21% but after waiting 3 hours I shut power off and Vista was reinstated. Why can't I get past 21% Expanding Windows files? I want to use the upgrade because I have a ton of programs on my Vista and don't want to spend days reinstalling them.

FAT32 ? how to create the ISO image, how to install it, and how to make sure that the "image" could be used to fo make a backup of my HDDs and also how to use the backup to fix the computer should a fatal crash prevented from booting up Windows 7? I've tried to upgrade from Vista Ultimate 32 bit to 7 Ultimate 32 bit numerous times now, all with the same result: a BSOD during the install process, which I get during (what I think is) the final step called "Transferring files, settings and programs."
The installation compatibility test warns me about my Nvidia drivers, which I've attempted to both remove and upgrade to the latest version, but that doesn't seem to make a difference (I still get the warning during the compatibility check, and I still get the blue screen). I'm not sure that's even the problem, either. I can't (easily) remove/replace the video card, since my mobo doesn't have onboard video, so I'd hopefully be able to avoid having to do that.
The error in the blue screen is a nebulous "REFERENCE_BY_POINTER" message. The technical information is "STOP: 0x00000018 (0x00000000, 0x86478030, 0x00000002, 0xFFFFFFFF)."
As a zip file, I've attached the setup log, error log, compatibility report, and what I think is the setup dump file, all of which I found in C:$WINDOWS.~BTSourcesPanther (I believe that's the right place to look). The logs complain about BthMig problems, which I think has something to do with bluetooth, but I don't have any bluetooth peripherals. I've uninstalled things that I thought might have some bluetooth things in it, like MS Intellitype (maybe a stretch), but again, no difference.
System specs: AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+, on an Asus M2N SLI Deluxe, with 4 GB of ram, and an Nvidia GeForce 8800 GT. The hard drive I'm installing (upgrading) on has about 100 GB free.

I'm trying to upgrade a computer from Vista Ultimate (32 bit) to 7 Ultimate (32 bit) and I keep receiving this error message:
"This installation disc isn't compatible with your version of Windows. To upgrade, you need the correct installation disc. For more information, check your computer's system information. To install a new copy of Windows, restart (boot) your computer using the installation disc, and then select Custom (advanced)."
Now, I double-checked all the system requirements and the system is compatible with 7.

am trying to do a backup of my Win 7 system drive (C, but the backup utility is saying that it must backup by non-system drives (E: and H, which happen to have "System Volume Information" folders on them. They are not system drives. E: is my main utilities drive and H: is my games drive.Somehow, Windows thinks they are system drives, when in reality they aren't.Any ideas on how to change them? When I go in to Disk Management, they are not showing as system drives. They are all partitions on the same hard drive, but there are other partitions not included in the backup.

I've got three different (but identical, to look at them) MicroSDHC thumb drives. When I tried them in my new Win 7 PC, it assigned a different drive letter and description to each, under Devices with Removable Storage. Even though "Hide empty drives in the computer folder" is checked in my Folder Options, it's not working -- they're still listed under Computer, grayed out. Worse, when I fire up Windows Explorer, it occasionally (but not consistently) gives me a series of errors about the drives not being available -- and this continues to happen even after I uninstall them in Device Manager.

Basically, I got 2 laptops. A new Win7 Home Premium and an XP SP3 netbook. Both are on the same workgroup. Both have full admin privilege accounts. Shares/drives are enabled as I have always done on Win environments. I am getting Access is Denied when I try to access my Win7 C: and D: drives from XP. I can see the Win7 laptop, I can even map the drives, but cannot access Win7 drives from XP. From Win7 to C: and D: on XP is no problem at all, as always. I am aware of that sharing root of drives is inadvisable. However, I am on a fairly secure home LAN [sole user] and I want to do this.

The company that I work for has satellite sites in some remote locations where network access is simply to slow to deploy images through. We would therefor want to put a image of windows 7 with all the drivers, and some of the most common software used included, on a 16 GB USB drive. So far I have been installing Windows 7 on a reference computer, with the drivers and software that I needed, and then syspreped it and used imagex to capture the image. Is there a better way to do what I want? Maybe by using MDT?The image must contain drivers for different Dell models (they seem to use most of the same drivers anyway).

I have 3 Windows 7 Ultimate computers hooked up to a ATT FastAccess DSL line. They are in a Homegroup. I also have 2 Windows xp Pro computers that are connected to same the FastAccess DSL. From the XP can see all Windows 7/xp computers by browsing the "entire network".
On one of the Windows 7 computers is assigned to Susan. Susan Windows 7 PC has a 4 Tb external hard drive attached to it. I created a folder on the 4 tb external HD called Frank and shared it.
What I am needing to do is on Frank's Windows XP Pro computer is to Map Network Drive and Map to the "frank" folder and have it reconnect at logon. Problem is when it goes to map the folder it wants an id/password to connect to the "frank folder". I can enter the credentials that Susan uses on her PC and the drive will map just fine but I need it to map without asking for any credentials. I already tried "reconnect at logon" and it shows in explorer but wants a password to reconnect.
I was thinking if I create a Frank user id and password on Susan's PC then use those credentials when frank tries to connect to the folder "frank" from his XP Pro PC then that might work. I am not sure.

I'm trying to stripe two drives using the disk management tool. Both partitions give me the option to stripe them but when I use the wizard the other drive doesn't show up to allow me to raid to it! Both drives have partitions on them at the moment, but I was under the impression that this will make a raid partition rather than a drive.

I have 5 hard drives in my system and I have installed windows 7 x64 on 2 separate drives and done this within windows. However a few times it booted okay but then started hanging on the post where it states verifying DMI pool data. Subsequently I tried everything to repair as I thought that the MBR was probably corrupted.
I have installed windows separately now on each drive by disconnecting all drives except the one that I am installing and then shut that down, disconnected it and connected the next and installed a fresh copy there to.
I am concerned that windows will corrupt the MBR again when I connect the drives one by one. I am not overly optimistic about windows boot manager and its reliability.
