Following the clean oem reinstall tutorial to a tee, I finally got the Recovery Management to start copying files to system and completing to 100%, which took only 12+ hrs. The next step of restoring and updating system started and has been running 14+ hrs and is only at 27%... Slow as Hades is an understatement. Something isn't right. Should I let it keep going till it fails or finishes? Or start it over?

Ok, my parents tried fixing their own computer. They tried the clean reinstall but the windows 7 home premium looks like it is in safe mode and it keeps saying "no internet connection". I looked at their partitions but I'm only seeing one... the (OEM)... I tried reinstalling from the "reinstall" dvd they got with the computer but I don't think they have an OS at all now.or am I gonna have to buy them a new windows 7 program??
View 14 Replies View RelatedI need to do a clean reinstall of Windows 7. I have two hard drives, C: and F:. I screwed my F drive up messing with hidden folders and now my permissions are gone. I bought the Windows 7 student edition and downloaded it onto my C drive a year ago and it is on the desktop. I bought a 1 terrabyte hard drive (F) and installed it early this year. When I go to copy my expandedsetup folder from my C: desktop to my F: drive, I lack the permission to do it. When I go to use the .exe in expandedsetup up I get a "Windows was unable to create a required installation folder, error 0x80070005." I also cannot save documents to my documents folder, download a multitude of things, even install the latest SC2 patch. Mozilla has also died on me.Where I am currently stuck at is trying to use cmd.exe and use "C:Windowssystem32" instead of the default "F:Windowssystem32" What I did is create a shortcut and make the target "F:WindowsSystem32cmd.exe" but I changed the start in to "C:WindowsSystem32" This works just fine, except when i go to use this page, Make bootable iso from student I can't get past the cmd text, it says I do not have permission to do it.
View 5 Replies View RelatedIll try to make this short and simple, i had same pc for around 3 years now, finally managed to ruin my first win 7 instalation by being lazy, that resulting in long needed reinstall, no problem there,But after everything was done, my pc started randomly freezing for around 1-5 mins ( depends, usually around 3 mins ) then it just comes back alive like nothing happened, sometimes video driver crashes My first thought was that my hdd finally dying on me, but after numerous test found nothing wrong on any of them and freezes doesnt always occur on hdd usage i ruled that out, some googling blamed it on new video drivers, got other ones, same, still freezing, reseted my bios to default, still same, sometimes i can turn on a game and play 2 hours straight and nothing will happen, next time i can startup movie and it will freeze 2 times in 5 mins, already reinstalled coddecs and video players i am just running out of ideas here, never had this issue before, using same windows 7, same install, same pc and all of my drivers/programs are same ones i used

BUT--Windows Installer is now broken so I can't install anything from Windows Update,including taking another crack at SP1. View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm having a problem with my CPU after I did a clean installation of Windows. Any time I put my CPU under any stress, major or not, my CPU runs at 100% and makes my whole computer slow. It can be little things such as launching a program, navigating though my files on my computer, taking a screenshot or opening and running Chrome. It can also be major things such as running games, such as Terraria which I could run at 60 fps all the time before my install, but now can only run at 2 or 3 because my CPU is at 100%. I know there are not processes that are running extremely high, trust me I've checked, and also when my computer is idle it goes down to 20-ish% or rarely down to 2% I was running Windows Ultimate 32 bit previously and decided to upgrade to Windows Ultimate 64 bit so I can run my 64 bit only Adobe programs. I bought a 2TB external hard drive to put my files on and an extra 2GB stick of RAM.
I did a clean install of Windows and noticed that my CPU ran at 100% (I had not installed any drivers instead of my Graphics Card, Network Card, Sound Card and External Hard Driver). I though it might have been a dud install, so I reinstalled 64 bit a second time. This time I installed all my driver for every component in my computer, but again 100%. I decided to go back to 32 bit, however it lagged so bad I couldn't even reach the login screen. I decided to give 64 bit one more chance. I installed all drivers and essential programs, but again like I've seen so much, 100%.I decided to go to Windows 8 64 bit Pre Release. The first time I tried to install it, I tried keeping all my apps, settings and personal files, but my CPU ran at 100% so it took 6 hours and failed at the end. I tried once again, but it failed the same way. I then burned the ISO to a disc and did a clean install of it. Again, the same problem arose and my CPU runs at 100%.
Would like to know what the proper way to go about formating hard drive and reinstalling windows 7 all I have is the repair disk, data back up disk & the Image disk i got the dell laptop from bestbuy and geeksquad did the set up well actually 3 weeks ago my motherboard and processor took a crap and it was replaced but i dont have a windows disk and actually had to get a program to track down the cd key but i dont have any dell software installed in here and its missing to many system files to run down. so i fifgured i would just "start over".

But it doesn't load the normal way, showing you the partitions and then after you pick one you get the " press any key to continue" then it finishes. It's an Hitachi desk star HD. I used to format it by hooking it up as a slave to my other desktop but it's not working. Is there a disk that I could run to clean the residual files off the HD so I can reinstall Win

View 2 Replies View RelatedI got some bad malware and removed it with a complete re-install of windows 7. I deleted all partitions and re-installed Windows 7 from that point. I went to the Gateway website and got all of the drivers for the equipment on the computer and it still runs painfully slow. I've run CCcleaner several times, done DSKCHK (because I suspected my hard drive might be faulty) and everything says I have no problems.

I've been troubleshooting this computer for some time now. At first, I disabled RAID because of the blue screens and I found that one was bad and the second of the RAID 1 appeared fine. Well, I installed XP to ensure it would work and that was extremely slow. My client didn't have a disc to XP MCE, but instead bought Windows 7. The installation took about 12 hours and the system is often unresponsive. On resource monitor, the 2.13Ghz Conroe CPU is barely tapped and the 2GB of RAM is barely at 30%. However, the system takes forever to boot and it very often stops responding for a period of time.
I did my research and found out that this model--original specs--can handle 7 better than this. I told the client it was probably an HDD error, as it seems to hang everytime the system must access the HDD. I can't even run the Index to find out what the systems rating is. I mem tested the RAM and chkdsk the HDDs before removing the first because of its clear faults in its inability to hold an OS installation. I recently installed the 2.5.3 BIOS update, but I haven't had a chance to install a newer version of Intel Matrix Manager.

I just clean installed windows 7 ultimate 64-bit i have tried 32 bit as well but i have had no difference in booting up i did not install anything yet as the boot up is very slow i have tried different hard-drive as well i have 2 80 GB hard drives one is maxtor and one is WD both are IDE...i disconnected everything extra that i had on my comp like Nvidia Geforce GTX 460 video CARD using on board video card i had a wireless card installed took that ooff as well took off the extra fans i had. Previously i had windows xp installed and it working very smooth so i have no clue what can it be as there is no virus before i installed it i had cleaned it up and installed it clean.
I just reinstalled Windows 7 64bit from an OEM Disc i bought awhile ago for my system. Now that i have installed it, and updated it to the fullest, my boot time when windows is loading is really slow. 35-50 seconds to get to the Desktop. It used to take 5-15 seconds. I looked to see the Start-up services so i could disable extras, but being a clean install there wasnt any.
I also updated my BIOS, and the problem is still occurring. The Only things that are connected are my Mouse, Keyboard, and my External HDD (Which is unplugged when i boot up the system)

My internet speed has really decreased since I installed windows 7 I have realised that my internet is so much more slow than usual. I'm prepared to upload screen shots of anything required I have tried doing a search for an update for my ATHEROS PCI-E ethernet device and it came back as sayin it was up to date.

I used the official MSDN Windows 7 Professional ISO SP1 and did a clean install. Unfortunately, I've been having this problem which I can't solve no matter what. It seems to me that there's some graphics issues - When resizing any window, it takes some tome while it redraws it's contents, you can actually see it updating the contents.Also, there's some sort of flickering involved as well.Machine in question is: HP ProBook 4515s With AMD/ATi HD 4330, running Windows 7 32bit SP1.I have tried the following, without success:
- the default drivers on the HP website
- the drivers provided by windows update service
- latest mobile drivers from AMD
- modded drivers with Mobility Modder
- Aero On / Aero Off / Disabling every visual effect
- Updating BIOS
- Doing the same on x64 version of windows.
I have DirectX updated, and all other patches and drivers should be there as well.

It takes forever to bootup, startup and it sometime hangs when I open up a program or typing.For the bootup, it takes very long time on the window logo, after that the black screen, followed by the welcome page with the loading cursor. Each of this process take a long time. For startup, its not so long but its still quite lag. For the opening up of program and typing, everytime I open up my visual studio, it will take a long time to show up and even if it showed up, it will be "not responding".So I will have to open it a second time before I can start using itWhen I am typing my codes, it will randomly hang and show that the program is not responding. I am still able to move my cursor though.

(Win 7 64 bit, on Satellite Toshiba) I just noticed that I did not install it with a partition for the OS, Is this going to be a big problem at some point? All the tests passed but the problems were still continuing. They eventually decided to reinstall my OS which is Windows 7 and everything's been working fine except my computer is a lot slower and frequently feels laggy where they mouse would freeze up for a few seconds or move slowly across the screen. View 2 Replies View RelatedI have Windows 7 Ultimate x64 and recently had a system crash. I got a blue screen stating ''hard error'' and my system was promptly restarted. Startup repair tried to do his things but it failed(and did an endless loop in trying to do so). I couldn't boot in safe mode, I couldn't do anything. I resorted to reinstalling Windows 7 using my CD. I took the custom installation rather than the upgrade because the upgrade would essentially lead to the endless startup repair loot. Now, after everything was done, it's said my old Windows is still on the computer under the file name ''Windows old'', I checked and it is indeed there. Wouldn't there be a way to reinstall Windows old? I really don't want to be forced to reinstall all my drivers and updates.

View 6 Replies View RelatedWe purchased 2 new computers for work and they both contain Windows 64 bit. Our accounting program is not compatible with 64 bit. I have found a work-around but it isn't very stable (using Windows XP virtual mode).
So, my plan was to reinstall Windows 32 bit on the machine. The machine is an HP 505B Microtower. I have an official version of 32 bit Windows 7 Professional. I understand that the one on the HP is OEM, but I will cross that bridge when I come to it with the serial number (I did back up the activation certificates using the ABR Utility).
I downloaded the ISO from the Microsoft store, so it's an official Windows version. I created a bootable USB drive using DISKPART to clean and format the drive and using the bootsect.exe file from the mounted ISO to make it bootable. I then copy the entire contents of the mounted ISO to the flash drive. I have done this to install Windows 7 before and it has worked flawlessly.
Then when I boot from the flash drive on the HP, it gives me the "Install" screen and then it asks for CD/DVD drivers. I am assuming it really means the SATA drivers for the HD, because the DVD drive isn't even in use at this point. So, I go to the HP site and download the drivers for the storage devices. When I browse to that directory on the CD, Windows Install sees the driver and tries to install it, but still says that it cannot find any appropriate drivers.
I've read about possible reasons this error occurs. Some people have had bad burns from their ISO. Since mine is on a flash drive, it's not the burn. I have re-copied the files. I even re-downloaded the ISO and did the process all fresh just in case some random file was corrupted, still with the same error.
I can't seem to figure out why it won't let me get past the drivers point. I've never had to load drivers when installing Windows 7. All my other installs have gone flawelessly, even on machines that have come with OEM version of Windows.
