View 1 RepliesI think it may be a security policy setting on the PC. The issue is that I had to change some settings because we access a UNIX server for our old ERP, a Windows Server2008 for our new ERP, and use Windows Server2003s for our VPN, File and Domain controllers. For workstations we have a mix of XP, and Win7 machines. The only computers having issues are the Win7 machines. We use Dell Vostro 460's, doubt the stats are really necessary. But they run Win7 Professional 64-bit.So I had to flip the following settings to communicate with the UNIX server:Network security: LAN Manager authentication level = Send NTLMv2 responses onlyNetwork security: Mininum session security for NTLM SSP Based (both on the client and server) = No minimum (from 128-bit default)Network security: Restrict NTLM: Add remote server exceptions for NTLM authentication = I input the domain IP addresses and server nameNetwork security: Restrict NTLM: Add server exceptions in this domain = I input the domain IP addresses and server name
The only other system changes I made were dropping the User Account Control Settings to the second to the lowest setting (Notify me only when programs try to make changes to my computer...) because the constant pop ups are annoying. I also set the network user login as an administrator on their local computers when I set up their accounts on their computers.A few different scenarios play out:
1. When one of my employees is trying to access a network file (excel), she is unable to. The program will launch, but the file cannot be opened from her workstation. IN the lower right hand corner of the Excel window I will see the progress bar move, then it does nothing. The program will hang and has to be force closed. This file is on a shared drive on a Win2003 server (completely open to all domain users.)
2. When trying to save an IE9 file, the user is not able to change their target location, and when they do, it freezes IE9.
3. When trying to attach a file to an e-mail, the users are not able to browse their computers to find the files they want to attach.
So about a week ago after going to some random video site my computer started having issues with freezing up. it predominately happens when I launch firefox and I have noticed more issues when using sites like netflix or watching episodes of my favorite shows on nbc, abc etc etc but it does happen no matter what im doing while browsing. some times it happens immediately after launching the browser and other times it takes a few minutes.
Also of note: Sometimes I can get out of the browser and some times I cant. I also cant restart the normal way and program manager wont load and neither will any thing else. I have to completely turn off the computer. when it comes back on some times the sound icon on the tray at the bottom right will mention that it failed to load and will have a red x. Sometimes windows loads and looks like windows xp or before with strange outdated graphics. I have norton with latest definitions always installed and as far as I can tell there are no viruses or malware installed. Also for a bit Java kept saying there was an update to be installed but when I would click on the icon it would say that there was nothing to install. I eventually figured that out and as far as I can tell the latest version of java is installed. the last detail I can think of: after a hard restart yesterday windows updates where installed and then I noticed that program manager showed high CPU and physical memory usage was higher and when Ctrl+Alt+Delete is pressed for a bit nothing comes up and then the screen turns black followed by an error box pops up:"failed to display security and shut down options".
I've just been encountering a new problem. My computer just starts to hangup after just a few minutes of use. Programs lockup for minutes and even my mouse freezes for a few minutes at a time. I don't really know what could be causing it. No processes seem to be taking a lot of CPU usage, and there doesn't seem to be any suspicious processes either. Even as i type this, Google Chrome is freezing and unfreezing, but all my keystrokes are captured
View 1 Replies View RelatedI had a MSI mobo before but had a broken ram slot so I sent it back, but was using it fine for a week, everything worked perfect accept for the ram. but I ended up sending it back for the ASRock, put everything back together and the windows 7 64 bit that I had installed just fine a week before wont install, I end up having to take out two of the ram sticks to install it.
So it gets installed and then I start adding programs, but it will only let me add certain ones.
the programs I have installed so far are:
Chrome,
vlc player,
winRAR
programs that I haven't been able to install,
AVG
Avast
Pidgin
Steam launcher
Microsoft Office
It gives me an NSIS error every time, but since it is happening with almost everything I try to use I think its not the files I'm trying to install.
Also every once in a while it will say that explorer has crashed and will close all of the windows I have open, but I am still able to use the computer after a few seconds.
Also every once in a while, for no reason the computer screen will go a grey color with faint horizontal lines and the speakers will start buzzing if there was sound coming out of them. If left alone in this state the computer eventually reboots.
spces are:
Windows 7 64 bit
I7 920
Radieon 5850
ASRock X58 Extreme
6 gb ddr3
Thermal take TR2-600w
western digital 750gb hd
I keep getting an message: Windows explorer has stopped working. It gives me the option to check online for a solution or restart the program. It doesnt matter what I pick, or if I click the esc button. It will keep popping up.
Here are the problem details:
Problem signature:
Problem Event Name:BEX
Application Name:explorer.exe
Application Version:6.1.7601.17567

I have done a full system scan with my anti virus and it has found nothing.
Ever since I've built this computer, I have failed to figure out where this small problem is coming from. Here is an example: I will be browsing the internet and all of a sudden (whatever task I tell the browser to do) will freeze, while everything else remains operational (mouse, other programs, etc.). After about 10 secs average, it resumes what it is doing. Now this goes the same for any other program I am in, for instance: my game that I play will freeze up temporarily, and i can alt-esc to return to windows and everything is still fine there but the game is still froze, after about 10-20secs, its resumes what it is doing. Unsure if this is just a driver issue or a hardware conflict.

I managed to re-install my Kaspersky Internet Security 2013 temporarily, but it doesn't show up on my desktop or taskbar. I have tried SFC/scannow returned :"Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them." My system restore does not work either for some reason since I got this laptop a year ago and Startup Repair shows no errors.. I am relatively good with computer diagnosis, but this one has me losing sleep for two days straight.
View 4 Replies View RelatedFor the past couple of days my computer has been freezing every time I open a new program or go to click on something. Using itunes is especially problematic because i will be listening to music and every thirty seconds the music will stop and continue, etc. I use Avast! free for protection and I have done every scan without them finding a virus, however they do get a couple of files they cannot scan and each time they are different files. I am not very tech savvy so I have no clue how to go about searching for the fix, however while searching through google i did find a lot of people had this problem with windows xp.
I own a Sony Vaio VPCEG32FX/W and have 142 GB used memory.
Programs i have installed are Photoshop CS5, Finale Notepad, Itunes, Last.fm, Firefox, Windows Live Messenger, The Sims 3, Avast!, Avidemux 2.5, Rollercoaster Tycoon, Winrar, and VLC mediaplayer
My explorer.exe is bugging. I cannot open anything, even Windows Task Manager and it seems to be that it's frozen in time. Windows Task Manager is not open, and I have two icons in my tray for it, both frozen. Skype won't update itself, like, my friend, I was IMing him and I read the IM, and it's still saying I have a notification, on Skype AND on explorer.exe (Task bar wise).

View 3 Replies View RelatedA little bit ago I complete reinstalled Windows 7 Ultimate and ever since my computer has been freezing randomly to the point where not even task manager works. Soon after the freeze my computer will turn off. I have updates all of my drivers, did a memory test and many virus scans and they all turned out alright. It stopped for about a whole week then started up again.

View 9 Replies View RelatedIn Windows 7 I have no problem selecting multiple files in a normal folder for example. The problem is when using a program (such as Freestar AMR MP3 Converter) I cannot select multiple files at once. This can make using the program extremely tedious and time-consuming if there are large numbers of files to convert. It is not just this one program that does it, because other programs also fail to allow me to select multiple files. Again, I must state that this only seems to happen when using certain programs and not generally in Windows 7. Also, a small unrelated question: how do I get out of 'Libraries' view in My Documents and basically disable the Libraries view permanently, and just have it normal like in all earlier versions of Windows?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a Windows 7-64 box that works perfectly. Except that I cannot install any driver past 270.61 for my nVidia GTX-580.nVidia said this is a known problem with many users due to "The install failed because a control panel binary is failing to register because of a missing dependency." In other words, one of their installers/un-installers has removed a dll that's needed.I don't have a free week of my life to re-install everything on the box from scratch. It was suggested on the EVGA forum that I might:" in-place upgrade install of the OS. In other words, insert your OS disk. Start the install and select 'Upgrade'.I have high end software like Maya, CS6, SQL Server and many others (but no games, this is a business machine with no extra software).
View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently built my first PC three days ago...
Specs:
i7 bloomfield 960 processor
4x4 vengeance ram
crosair hx850 PSU
evga x58 ftw3 mobo
hd 6870 radeon graphics xfx
When I first installed windows it started to work just fine but I soon noticed that it would randomly freeze every 15-30 minutes of use, but not on a particular program or anything. I assumed it was drivers so I installed the latest drivers for my GPU and MOBO and keyboard. It seemed fine again until it started crashing again. I ran a GPU burn test and a CPU burn test it passed both. (I tried runing memtest86+ but it froze at like 12%) Then I tried fixing the registry so I downloaded ccleaner and fixed the registry problems. Freezes continued. I finally decided to re install windows so I did and the problems still continued. I am at a loss of what to do and can't think of anything else.
So I just upgraded to Windows 7 from Windows XP.the new operating system, except for one major flaw.Programs keep freezing on me! Even windows items, like when I'm browsing through my pictures. There's a few programs that ALWAYS freeze though, including Adobe Bridge and iTunes.Sometimes they'll unfreeze, other times I have to manually force close them through the task manager.
My specs:
Windows 7 Pro installed on a 60gb Vertex 2 SSD
i7 2600k clocked at 4.0ghz
5TB of WD storage
16gb of Gskill Memory
OCZ StealthXstream 600w PSU
Water-cooled, and CPU idles at 25-26c
So I don't think it's my system causing it (not enough memory, overheating, etc...).Has to be something internal with Windows.
I just reinstalled my windows 7 (64-bit, home) because needed to kill some viruses. After reinstallation, most software will crash when double click, including media player etc. But If I run these software as administrator, it is OK.And double click IE 9 64-bit is good, no need to run as administrator, but IE 9 32-bit and Chrome will crash if they are not run as administrator. After the software crash, sometimes it will show some error message such as "the instruction at 0xxxxxxxxx referenced memory 0xxxxxxxxxxx. The memory could not be written."It is weird that I can not double click a mp3 to automatically open the media player to play the song, and constantly need to right click the player to run as administrator and drag the mp3 into player, too much trouble.I have done all updates of windows 7. It is still the same.

One of them was Windows live essential(MSN messenger & Windows mail) I tried re installing and when tried to install again it gave me an error "Couldn't install programs.

I opened up command prompt and ran SFC/ SCANNOW and received a message about corrupt files.
I downloaded some audio programs and afterwards ie9 64bit would not work (32bit Does). I tried uninstalling and reinstalling but the update failed. After removing the programs ie9 installed but 64bit would not load any web sites. I have tried resetting ie9, flushing the dns etc using "SF IE9 RESTORATOR" all to no avail. google chrome and opera are working fine.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm starting to use Windows 7's speech recognition program which is proving to be much better than the alternatives, especially Dragon.
However, I can't get it to work with non-microsoft programs. It won't work with Adobe products (Photoshop, Illustrator, iDesign), Open Office, or the Chrome browser. It will work with Wordpad, Expression Web, Live Writer, etc.
Is there some setting I can change? Or is Speech Recognition a microsoft only tool? I'm using the latest version of Windows 7 64 bit on an i5 Asus laptop.
Just recently I have found that typing a program name into the start menu no longer returns the programs that match. I tried to install a hotfix which didn't work (update not applicable to my computer). I've seen other posts about deleting a registry key, but I don't have that registry key in the first place. I've also rebuilt the search index with no success
View 3 Replies View RelatedIts been happening ever since I installed Windows 7.
For example, When I click Start, type "CC" in the search box, the Start menu displays what I intend to start (CCleaner) but when I press enter I get this:
Its acting completely wierd!
On top of that, when I right click the entry, I get a menu which is expanded towards the left awkwardly.
I also recall that I have unchecked "Allow files on this drive to have contents indexed in addition to file properties." in the properties of my Windows 7 boot drive.
And since the programs are installed there, I think the problem might be related.
I have checked it again but it dosen't have any effect!
some of my programs like completly stoped working like go to play them and they worked before i my computer wouldnt come outta sleep mode and now the programs that were just apear with a program stop working/responding and just recently another program has started to say program has stopped working/responding and all i did was open it and just wondering if anyone got any ideas but mostly i am just gonna format if i cant fix it

View 4 Replies View RelatedComputer is currently suffering from persistent freezing and bluescreens. It seems to happen almost randomly, and usually very soon after startup and loading of Windows. System restore has not helped.'fraid that's all the info I can give right now. Any recommendations? If anyone wants me to run hijackthis or dxdiag and post results I'd be more than happy to (assuming I can get that far before it freezes!). Safe mode does work, and the problem does not occur while in safe mode.

I can no longer install programs or modify existing programs.According to the security permissions, I have none. Nor can I change my permissions because in order to change them I need access to the C drive, which I don't have.I have tried creating other users and putting them in the admin group, etc. but nothing is working.
