Speech Recognition Not Working With Non-microsoft Programs
Feb 1, 2012
I'm starting to use Windows 7's speech recognition program which is proving to be much better than the alternatives, especially Dragon.
However, I can't get it to work with non-microsoft programs. It won't work with Adobe products (Photoshop, Illustrator, iDesign), Open Office, or the Chrome browser. It will work with Wordpad, Expression Web, Live Writer, etc.
Is there some setting I can change? Or is Speech Recognition a microsoft only tool? I'm using the latest version of Windows 7 64 bit on an i5 Asus laptop.
I have used speech recognition on my computer before, with a minor issue of it giving me grief over specific words. I haven't run it in a while and discovered it wasn't working right tonight. I thought it was my microphone, and sure enough when I unplugged the mic and ran the tutorial it was back to it's old self. Until I tried to run it in wordpad. I spent no less than ten minutes trying to dictated the words "she lifted"! Even when I finally got the right correction it wouldn't accept the numbers. I tried saying "spell it" but no, I had to manually click on it before it would open the spell it tab. Then it wouldn't correctly spell it either so I said forget it and had to type the thing myself! I couldn't even get 2 words in after typing it myself before it had to correct again. Fifty or more times I tried saying "the lid" and NEVER got the proper words out of the corrector. At this point I am extremely frustrated and angry and I will admit freely I descended into swearing at the speech recognition while attempting to close the piece of crap. Needless to say, now I don't even feel like writing. Now tell me what the ever loving point is to this program if it only works in the stinking tutorial? In trying to save my carpal tunnel from a great deal of typing I only ended up screaming in frustration at the computer and making my throat raw.
I read on this forum about the speech recognition software on windows 7. So I found it but only by doing a search first. I thought it would be in the program list. I think it is great but I am only learning with it. I am suprised it actually knows what I am saying without learning like a lot of other software out there.
Anyway, thats not what I am writing about. What I would like to know is about the commands it has. I can only find about half a dozen. I have used the help menu but dont get far with that. For anyone who uses it can you tell me where to find the commands or do you have to train it to your own.
Does anybody know where i can find the speech recognition configuration folder so that i can make a copy of it and in case i need to restore it on a later time?
I use speech recognition a lot. I think the speech recognition in Windows 7 is great, although I miss some things in it. For those who also have RSI, or just want to use the voice, I found two add-ons that I think is pretty interesting. The first add-on is the Windows Speech Recognition Macros, you can group several speech commands at once with it. The only drawback is clicking anywhere on the screen with your voice. Windows default "mouse grid" takes a lot commands to move and click. For this issue, I found another add-on for clicking anywhere that is pretty fast. It is a tiny add-on called Voice Finger [URL], and by the way I'm using it right now.
I noticed there's some issues with this but could not fine a resolution. When i first installed Windows 7 I ran the Tutorial for Speech Recognition and it worked perfect.I also used it for awhile and it worked perfect , then i rebooted and was installing stuff i dont remmeber what. but since i just updated i installed alot of stuff. I disabled speech recognition to auto-start when windows booted up and ever since i get this error.
When i try to open speech recognition you can see it pop open for a quick second up top and then i get this.
"SPEECH RECOGNITION COULD NOT START BECAUSE THE LANGUAGE CONFIGURATION IS NOT SUPPORTED.....THE RECOGNIZER LANGUAGE MUST MATCH THE LANGUAGE OF THE USER INTERFACE. PLEASE CHANGE THE RECOGNIZER LANGUAGE IN THE SPEECH RECOGNITION CONTROL PANEL UNDER ADVANCED OPTIONS"
Now. i'm not a total idiot and it was set to US the whole time, and this Windows 7 Beta 7000 32 bit English...oh and all the other speech regonistion otpions work such as tutorial and Train the computer to better understand you (yeah i sat there and read the whole thing for about 5 mins and it worked perfect).
I'm not the only one with this issue. i have a Creative X-FI new beta drivers. for windows 7. Nvidia 9600 GT. Q6600 Intel and ASUS P5K mobo. HELP?
I'm quite interested in utilising Windows 7's speech recognition. I set up my mic, done the tutorial, and even trained my voice a couple of times. However, When I click "Start speech recognition," nothing happens! I don't get an icon in the tray, or the program itself at the top of the screen.
I've tried turning off all non-windows services and programs on startup (this was a Vista fix that I found on the net), but still nothing.
I'm trying to get a Speech recognition microphone which is wirerless. The kind you put behind your ear and talk. All I can get are the ones you put into your phone.
I own Dutch home edition windows 7 on my new laptop. There is no speech recognition module that came with the software. Is it possible to use the English version SAPI 5.1 with windows 7? (installing with compatibility mode XP)I use software that only uses English speech recognition, and works best with XP.The SR modules that comes with thr "bigger" versions of Windows 7 gives a lot of troubles with the program, because there are a lot of instructions that works also with the Windows 7 interface. The software i use = London Control (Air traffic control simulation)

Pretty much a life assistant. What I want is to change the voice in my Speech Recognition System to that British accent J.A.R.V.I.S. (Iron Man's super computer) had in the movie.oreover, When I say " Open notepad". I want the computer to open notepad and reply by saying "Opening notepad".
I'm having a problem with the default Windows Speech Recognition. It will just not start. You press, "Start Speech Recognition" and the spinning disk appears, but then nothing. I use Home Premium.
I wanted a one sheet reference card for the speech recognition commands that I could print and use while I'm still learning how to use speech recognition. I had to make one. I thought it would be worth sharing.WINDOWS 7 Speech Recognition 8 Reference Card.pdf

I have just started to use Windows 7 RC1 and it has to be one of the best releases since WS2000 & WS2003.The Sheer performance, sleek finish and the GUI is great for even beginners. Problem I have so far is that WSRMacros will not launch. I have successfully downloaded the msi from MS installed and rebooted, but when executing the application it does nothing.
I have several applications in the Notification Area (some call "system tray"). Can anybody tell me how I can access them using Speech recognition?
I do not mean by saying "mousegrid" etc. and drilling down, but wonder if there is a command that I have not found that relates specifically to the Notification Area.
I`m trying to pin a speech recognition shortcut to the taskbar of a Windows 7 system so that the program starts when I click it.At the moment, I can only get as far as creating a shortcut that opens with the `Configure your Speech Recognition` window and I can`t seem to work out where the actual program starts from. I thought if I could find the exe file, I could create a shortcut from there and guessed it`d be in C/Windows/system32 but unless it`s camouflaged, it doesn`t seem to be there.
I have Swedish Win 7 64bit Home Premium. I want to use speech recognition to dictate. When I try to activate it I get error message "Speech recognition is not supported for the current language".
Is there a way to use a voice besides "MicroSoft Anna"?Also, once I record text where does it go so I can use it, maybe in the scheduler? Is it a file and what is it's name?
my power got knocked out in the middle of a system restore and since then a lot of my Microsoft programs and utilities have been having problems. Also, the start menu wont open by keyboard or mouse click, I can't uninstall programs from control panel, windows update will not work, and my audio just stopped working. I have already run a registry utility but not improvement. Please respond ASAP, as I am in finals week in my online class and have a paper due tonight.
I have previously installed Window security essential.I realized today that my scheduled scan was not running.I tried opening the program but an alert with error code 0x8007064e appeared.I tried deleting the program but 'Microsoft window essential' was not on the list of 'programs and features'.I tried installing but error appeared telling me that my computer already has the program.I am using 64bit operating system?
I have started my weekly scan with Microsoft Security Essentials when I have noticed some things:
- MSE stalled on a specific file which posed no problem in the past and the timer refused to increase even after 10 or so minutes. - MSE has locked up my computer or slowed it down to the point where I have to do a hard restart. This never happened before - Other programs have taken a major performance hit like Google Chrome for example. Even Windows 7's explorer has locked up time to time. - System restore is not working since it stalled on the initializing phase for at least 30 minutes without significant progress, prompting a hard restart. - It took a lot longer for the system to shutdown normally.
I have issues on the computer that I have not have before and I'm not sure why. Is there a solution that does not involve a clean re-install? I do not have the DVDs since the laptop has Windows 7 built in and they did not give me a CD.
For some reason the Microsoft Fix It Solution Centre will not accept, and so help me, with problems. Instead, I get the message :Fix It trouble Shooter cannot continue because an error occurs. This Trouble Shooter doesn't apply to this computer.I have been able to make use of this facility since my PC was new (last May) and this is a recent message.I see, from Google, that others complain of this problem butseemingly no solution has been given, although the failure to install Update KB976902 has been suggested as a possible cause of this problem.I have checked, and this update was installed successfully on my PC.
outlook 2007 which is installed on my computer on operating syste windows 7. I was using outlook 2003 which never gave any problem. I have now installed outlook 2007 which is give me hell lot of problems. Since last week it stating working slow but now it does not open. The problem goes like this - last week my cousin pressed restart button when my outlook was still open. From that day it was working slow and now it does not open.
