Windows 7 Login Screen/box Won't Open - Only Background And Cursor Visible
Jun 28, 2011I was surfing the net this morning and in the background i was installing "Logmein". I assume the website i got it off is legit as many of my friends have it installed it to play networked games. This is the website i downloaded it from [URL] Whilst it was installing my laptop froze and ctrl + alt + del wouldn't work so i turned it off by holding down the power button and then turned it back on. It now loads up a screen that says "Windows error recovery" and has an option to "Launch Startup Repair" or "Start windows normally" . whichever one i select the outcome is the same... a screen that says "windows is loading files..." followed by a blank login screen with only the cursor for company as shown in the image below: [URL]
I have no idea what to do and this is the first real problem i haven't been able to solve in the 2 years ive had it.
I have tried every option in the "Advanced Boot Options" (F8 on startup) menu in the hope that something different would happen but every single time is identical to the last. I am running windows 7 premium x64 bit on the Sony Vaio VGN-NW20SF. My laptop didn't come with a windows 7 disk so i cant reformat it. I havent backed it up for a while and there are files i would like to keep if possible.

Mar 3, 2012I know this has been asked over and over. But the answers are many and I am just not sure what I should do. I have a Toshiba Satellite that I just purchased, 4 GB and an AMD quad core processor.I thought the problem seemed to occur after Windows updates but now I am not sure. It just seems to happen intermittently.Essentially, no icons load to the desktop, no other software seems to load.

Nov 18, 2011this problem happened recently after transferring around 1GBs of data into my hard drive. Nearly the end of the transfer, i realise the transfer stops at 99% so i decided to cancel it but when i clicked on the cancel button it doesn't respond and so does my desktop icons. I went on by pressing the restart button so it reboot but it gets to the starting windows screen but no animations of the 4 colours came up. Then it prompted me that my computer have problems loading windows so i selected startup repair but it get stuck at the blue flowery background with my mouse and it does nothing. I have tried AVG Tuneup as well.
additional info: computer not overclocked all on factory settings.

Feb 18, 2012I just reinstalled Windows7 from recovery discs on my Dell desktop. Sorry, I don't know much about what hardware I am running, but windows7 is a fresh install and everything else works OK. When I plug the HDMI cable from the pc to the tv all I can see is the desktop background with no icons or desktop folders. I can't see any programs either. I do have sound though.

Feb 7, 2012I have a new Dell Optiplex 790 that I'm trying to install Windows 7 Enterprise onto. It installs no problem, but afterwards, after post, it will just display a blinking cursor. If I hit F12 during post to go to the One-Time Boot Menu, there is an option for "Windows Boot Manager" and if I choose this, it boots fine. I have tried multiple disks, multiple hard drives, updating the BIOS version, both ATA and AHCI configurations in the BIOS, and even multiple machines, all brand new 790s. This problem seems to be hit or miss, as Windows 7 will install fine on some and will cause this problem on others. Also, I have tried installing EasyBCD and there are some issues with that. It will not display an option for Windows 7, so the boot menu is completely blank. It won't let me add any entries there either.

Sep 14, 2011Built new rig Mon night and shows problem I can't understand. It's an i7-2600 w/Z68 board, and OCZ Vertex3 60GB SSD. I installed Windows 7 Premium with no extra's, then removed some components I never use, yet Windows is reporting that I only have 13GB of free space available of 60GB. I added the MB, LAN, Vid drivers, and still show only 17GB unused. I added up Program Files, Program Files (x86), User, Program Data, and Windows folders as shown in their properties and only arrive at a total of approx 13GB.

May 16, 2012So i have a new SSD Corsair Force 3 240 gig and all I want to do is install Windows 7 Pro on it. This board does not support parted magic (cannot wake from sleep and there are no onboard video to wake up to) so ive resorted to clean all.I have not been able to successfully boot the OS on the SSD. I never intended on setting up raid but apparently all the literature i see is on raid. I created a USB install disk as reccomended onto a 8gig ntfs primary active did the bootsect /nt60 X: and it successfully worked copied the cd over to the flash drive and copied the rste drivers in a folder called drivers My SSD is installed on port 1 6gig sata intel (as this board doesnt have marvel apparrently) My DVD is installed on 3gig Sata port 6 I set up Raid in the bios as reccomended by others (as this is the only way to install ssd?).
Nothing UEFI is enabled There are no other drives hooked up to the computer. Just SSD, USB cordless mouse, keyboard and no network cord or WIFI i started with a clean ssd as reccomended my bios recognized the ssd on post i booted into the win 7 install (MBR not uefi) i loaded the 64 bit rste drivers from asus as reccomended by others i left the machine to install the usb then booted into windows install (for whatever reason) i pushed f8 to boot my corsair windows brings up an error on a black screen File: windows/system32/drivers/adpahci.sys driver did not load Status: oxc0000221 Info: Windows Failed to load because of a critical system driver is missing or corrupt

Aug 14, 2011Lately my OS seems to have some kind of problem.As i'm surfing with my browser (Chrome), sometimes out of nowhere (or usually when i try to save a picture with right click>save as) the frames of another window that i have open pop-up on the screen.Like it's kinda bringing it forth but not quite.From what i've experienced this happens with my utorrent window or windows of the Windows 7 explorer.I mean not the ie browser.The one you use to explore your system files etc.Here's how it looks like.I have a dark windows background open on my Chrome, so that it's clearly visible.
