I know this has been asked over and over. But the answers are many and I am just not sure what I should do. I have a Toshiba Satellite that I just purchased, 4 GB and an AMD quad core processor.I thought the problem seemed to occur after Windows updates but now I am not sure. It just seems to happen intermittently.Essentially, no icons load to the desktop, no other software seems to load.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI was surfing the net this morning and in the background i was installing "Logmein". I assume the website i got it off is legit as many of my friends have it installed it to play networked games. This is the website i downloaded it from [URL] Whilst it was installing my laptop froze and ctrl + alt + del wouldn't work so i turned it off by holding down the power button and then turned it back on. It now loads up a screen that says "Windows error recovery" and has an option to "Launch Startup Repair" or "Start windows normally" . whichever one i select the outcome is the same... a screen that says "windows is loading files..." followed by a blank login screen with only the cursor for company as shown in the image below: [URL]
I have no idea what to do and this is the first real problem i haven't been able to solve in the 2 years ive had it.
I have tried every option in the "Advanced Boot Options" (F8 on startup) menu in the hope that something different would happen but every single time is identical to the last. I am running windows 7 premium x64 bit on the Sony Vaio VGN-NW20SF. My laptop didn't come with a windows 7 disk so i cant reformat it. I havent backed it up for a while and there are files i would like to keep if possible.
this problem happened recently after transferring around 1GBs of data into my hard drive. Nearly the end of the transfer, i realise the transfer stops at 99% so i decided to cancel it but when i clicked on the cancel button it doesn't respond and so does my desktop icons. I went on by pressing the restart button so it reboot but it gets to the starting windows screen but no animations of the 4 colours came up. Then it prompted me that my computer have problems loading windows so i selected startup repair but it get stuck at the blue flowery background with my mouse and it does nothing. I have tried AVG Tuneup as well.
additional info: computer not overclocked all on factory settings.
every time i hold down a button on my keyboard my mouse freezes in till i remove my finger off the button then the mouse will go back normal? my laptop is acer aspire 5551-a windows 7 32bit home prem

However, his desktop is not the way it use to be before the malware. The obvious problem being his desktop background is black and it does not change. View 8 Replies View RelatedMy desktop background, which was a slideshow from one of my folders of photos suddenly froze on one picture which showed the top one third correctly, the second third as multicolored horizontal lines and the bottom one third as grey. I was unable to affect this in any way using 'personalize' but finally got rid of it by moving the folder of photos elsewhere and restarting. I am now only able to select a solid color. When I try to set anything else, I can set everything as I wish in the personalize window but when I click 'save changes' it reverts to solid color again. If I right click any picture and select 'Set as desktop background', absolutely nothing happens. I have tried restoring to an earlier time which had no effect on the problem.

Right clicking on my desktop and clicking Personalize> Change theme and then setting it from there is not working either. The only thing that does work is setting a solid colour as a background (not too inspiring).
