View 1 RepliesMy current system was upgraded to windows 7 32bit from vista 32bit (I bought the windows 7 home premium upgrade disc when it was first released). I am going to build a complete new system. Can I install windows 7 64bit from the same windows 7 disc? Or do I have to buy a new windows 7 disc? Is there a way around buying a whole new disc?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am running windows 7 for long time and I havent came accross this yet , so this is what happend in shorter version, I was using my computer when the screen just went black. I just tought to myself its probably something wrong with my memory so i ran the Memory Diagnostic Tool ,I picked the first choice that it recommended "Save work and restart the system". The computer restarted, and the tool started to work after 15-20 minutes it was nearly done 90 somthing , i just went down stairs to get a drink and when i came backed upstairs i realised that the scanning is at 8% again , I tought maybe thats how it works , scans 2-3 times , i lefted the computer working over the night when i waken up the tool was still working , went to work , came backed and the tool was still working , i just said to myself this has to be wrong , i unpluged the pc left it over the night. Turned it on , the diagnostic tool started itself again , The scan was neraly over when just again i realised that this think goes in infinity. I pressed the " Esc" button as it said to finish but when i press the button the scan just resets and goes from 0% again, It doesnt want to let me run safe mode or anything else , only go to bios set up.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI ran a couple of memory diagnostics last night (Memtest86 & Windows), but the Windows test said that it would display the results after logging in...it didn't...at least nowhere that I can find. I assume that it should have created a log file...where would I find it?

I don't have much to say at this time. It's a random blue screen that forces a restart and I haven't detected any pattern to it yet.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI purchased 4GB of RAm a few mnths ago and also got a copy of Vista HP64. From the get go I had all sort of issues in Vista - games would not run, the OS seemed to crash a lot, would get messages like MS Outlooks data file was not closed properly. Windows defender would crash all the time.Tried about 15 different nVidia drivers... gave up. I tried 3 different HDDs too.
So anyway I moved back to XP because I assumed it was simply Vista.
This week I downloaded Win7RC1!! I'd heard nothing but greta things on podcasts, in forums etc. So i installed.
From the start I've had again defender crashing, "windows logon" errors, action centre shows me a LOT of errors that it's detetced and fixed. I get a few "explorer has stopped working" errors too. UGH! Games do not work - they freeze either on loading or after 30 seconds or so of gaming. I've had 4 or so BSODs which I had heard were basically unheard of in Windows 7! They were of varying variety.
All these erros in 3 days worth of running Windows 7? Seems a lot.... and errors on core components of Windows 7 too.
I am currently running OS 7 Beta RC Build 7100. Were do I get this newer version, is there a big difference? And am I able to upgrade to the newer Beta?
I realize that October is fast approaching for the RTM but I plan to keep running the Beta for a couple of months past the Grand Opening.
Is it possible that all the updates that I have received equally add up to the newer build?
I own a Gateway/Windows 7 pc,64 bit operating system, about 5 yrs old. When I try to run the memory diagnostic tool, system shuts down completely. I have to restart pc. Is there a hidden virus in my system, and, if not, what diagnostic tool can I use to check memory diagnostic program.

View 1 Replies View RelatedExternal backup for 2 Windows 7 home computers.Prices are currently at a premium for a 2T 2 1/2" USB 3x external backup drive. I will retire the XP machine soon that is being replaced by the new Windows 7 machine. The XP machine has 2 drives--one of which is slower than molasses and you can hear the thing churning away when nothing should be going on (indexing off).I've never had much luck with diagnostic software--in particular PC Doctor when it was shipped with Lenovo systems. Is there, in particular, hard drive diagnostic software that really can diagnose a problematic drive?
View 2 Replies View RelatedToday I awoke to a notification from a HP Diagnostic Test. This is a monthly test done and it stated that a few items failed. Those being Random Seek Test, Funnel Seek Test, Surface Scan Test. I got a Seagate GoFlex Portable 1TB drive for Christmas and that was put into use since Christmas. It has been fully operational from the word go. That is, until today after HP did it's diagnostics. Also, the contents of my recycle bin are now hidden. If I delete something. Nothing is shown in the recycle bin, but it will let me delete and clear that hidden item. I'm not a fan of HP as I find them very intrusive and "evil." This PC is almost 2 years old and running Windows 7 64 bit OS.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have problems when I play games, I get some BSOD about half an hour after I start playing. it says local ID 1033
I tought it might be a memory problem so I run the memoty test, it says it found a hardware problem and that I should contact the manufacturer. Then windows boot perfectly and no error message appear... I dont know what to do next.
My mom's laptop is detecting that our wireless internet connection is active, but it won't actually connect to the internet. When we troubleshoot the issue, it says that our diagnostic policy service isn't running. Since we can't connect to the internet on the laptop, we can't run any updates or perform any virus scans. We've tried manually adding a network service through cmd.exe, and uninstalling the network adapters and restarting the computer. We've also tried to run a system file check, but it doesn't seem to activate. The sfc box just disappears when we try to initiate a scan. I imagine we might have to back up her important files and just reinstall the operating system, but her laptop came with a preinstalled OS, and no discs.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI just finished building my new PC and have an odd question. I installed Windows 7 64bit Home Premium and the system boots just fine. However, when I click on "Computer" in the start menu, W7 is only seeing my SSD and not my HDD.When I started installing W7, I was asked by the installation program on which drive I would like to install. I chose my SSD. Installation went smoothly yet it does not see that 2nd HDD. Interestingly, when I click on device manager, the 2nd HDD is listed and appears to be "working properly".
System specs:
Mobo: Intel DZ68BC
CPU: Intel i5 2500
SSD: Intel SSDSA2CW
HDD: Samsung HD103S
Both the drives are connected via SATA cables. The SSD is in a 3gb/s "SATA 0" slot, the HDD is in "SATA 1" and the optical drive is in "SATA 2".Within the BIOS, under "Configuration" --> SATA drive:
Chipset SATA is enabled
Chipset SATA mode is AHCI
SATA ports 0 / 1 / 2 not installed (?)
SATA port 3 - optical drive
SATA port 4 Samsung HDD
SATA port 5 SSD
No SATA Hot Plug Capability is enabled. The Secondary SATA is enabled in IDE mode. What am I missing here? Do I have something plugged into the wrong SATA port? Why would it be seen in device manager and in the BIOS yet not seen when I look at "My Computer"?
This is my first build and with the process of part shopping figuring out what I wanted I never though of the OS. I have a PC with a 500gb hard drive running windows but when I bought this PC I didn't get a disk. Is there any way to copy windows to my new 1tb hard drive. If not is there a way to take my current 500gb out and put it in my new PC then somehow transfer windows to the 1tb hard drive. I have always got prebuilt computers so I have never had to worry about an OS and I guess I made a big rookie mistake not leaving any room in my budget for a $100+ OS..Whoops AMD FX-8350 Vishera 4.0GHz (4.2GHz Turbo) Socket AM3+ 125W Eight-Core Desktop Processor FD8350FRHKBOX COOLER MASTER R4-S2S-124K-GP 120mm Case Fan 4 in 1 pack BIOSTAR TA990FXE AM3+ AMD 990FX SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard with UEFI BIOS SAMSUNG DVD Burner SATA Model SH-224BB - OEM PowerColor PCS+ AX7870 2GBD5-2DHPPV3E Radeon HD 7870 MYST. View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently built a computer (for the first time) and I tried installing Windows 7 64bit on it, but it doesn't see the hard drive. The hard drive shows up just fine in the BIOS so I tried installing Linux to see if that would see it..which it did. So why would Windows 7 not see the hard drive will everything else can?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently built a PC for myself a few weeks ago. The specs will be pasted below after the description of my problem.
While gaming, surfing the web, or running AutoCAD, my PC just freezes up. It has happened 5-6 times and I am not sure what is going on.
I did some research and I was advised to go to ASUS's QVL for my Motherboard and check the latency and recommended speed. I followed the advised instructions but my PC froze again while playing a game.
I then tried running virus scans to see if this was the issue but I detected nothing. I ran Windows Update, but the problem still occurred.
The most significant recent change I did was upgrade my video card's drivers to NVIDIA's 296 driver. Could it be the voltage of my DDR3 Memory? It is rated at 1.5V. Below are the specs for my machine.

After installing a fresh Windows 7, I would optimize it doing the steps of those guides: Speed Up Windows 7 - Ultimate Guide To Make Windows 7 Blazing Fast!!! (17 steps) Master Tutorial to Make Your Windows 7 Super Fast - Tweaking with Vishal (7 steps)
Instead of doing this manually, I would use a .REG (and/or .BAT) file.
So, for those steps below:
1. Disabling the Search Indexing Feature in Windows 7.
2. Disable the Aero Theme on Windows 7.
3. Disable all Visual Effects (Sys. Properties > Advanced > Performance > Settings > Visual Effects)
4. Disable the User account control (UAC).
5. Disable the Windows 7 Sidebar.
6. Disable the Aero Peek and Aero Snap features in Windows 7.
7. Change the Power Plan To Maximum Performance.
8. Disable the Thumbnail Preview Feature.
9. Disable all System Sounds (run > mmsys.cpl).
Question A. What are the Windows 7 registry branches storing those settings?
Question B. Which Windows 7 registry tool localize those branches? Comparing the registry before and after manually doing one of those step. Registry Monitor- Askkids.com regshot | Get regshot at SourceForge.net Splunk | IT Search for Log Management, Operations, Security and Compliance

I had purchased a retail copy of windows 7 home 32 bit and installed it as bootcamp on my macbook pro. Now I am purchasing the parts to build a desktop! View 4 Replies View RelatedI just finished building my first gaming rig (WoooT!) and it works (DOUBLE WOOT!) and now I have to install Windows 7. The catch is my mom's company has free copies from her work that are stored online in an FTP site. Can I access those from the BIOS or is there any other way I can get to them and install without having a running operating system on my computer? I don't have a USB of Windows or any other software and I got sold a fake copy (at least I'm pretty damn sure it is) from Ebay and I really don't want to use that.
I go out and buy another DVD of Windows 7?
