Windows 7 Unplugging HDMI Display Speakers
May 28, 2012
I use my computer mainly for living room entertainment and I use my HDTV (LG LED 1080p) as my main computer screen. Everything used to work fine but I've recently started having problems with the sound. When I turn the computer on, the sound works perfectly. However, if I close the TV or change the input from my computer to anything else, and then go back to the computer, the sound is gone.I looked through the sound options in the Control panel and noticed that the sound problem comes from my TV speakers (identified as AMD HDMI output) being unplugged. This is obviously impossible because the speakers are in the TV so this must be a Windows problem. This output works perfectly when the sound is on.My TV is connected to my computer through a single HDMI cable for sound and image (ATI Radeon 5700 graphics card and ASUS M4A79XTD EVO motherboard on-board soundcard, both with latest drivers). I use Windows 7 premium home edition 64-bit and I have 4 GB of RAM. i found that either logging off from Windows or restarting the computer will bring the sound back on. Unfortunately, as soon as I turn off the TV or change the input, the sound goes off again.

ok to uncomplicated things ive read thru the forums and could not find anything concrete on this problem of mine..
i have a gigabyte mobo/amd cpu w/onboard hdmi
my issue is sound switching right now as it stands, i need to manually switch on my pc between the HDMI audio as my main device and my PC speakers as my main device... on my laptops this is not a problem, it can automatically detect if hdmi is plugged in and switch sound over..
the main reason is its a slight pain to keep going over after a movie and switch over, nor do i want to disconnect a hdmi cable every time..
any suggestions how to automate this problem???

I have connect my laptop using an HDMI cable to my TV. And from my tv I have connected my two HiFi speakers. When the TV is on an AV channel I have sound coming from the TV and HiFi speakers but when I switch it to the HDMI source channel, sound only comes from the TV and not HiFi speakers. This is frustrating because I want to watch movies on my TV through my laptop and get the feel of some surround sound through the HiFi speakers but it is not working!

I have an Asus K61-IC dual booting Windows 7 Professional x64 (default) & Fedora 16 x64. In Windows, whenever I plug in a HDMI cable to watch a movie on my LCD TV audio will only come out of laptop speakers and when I open audio properties it says HDMI audio not connected or something to that effect (at the moment, I'm not able to connect it to the TV) and it will not let me click on properties, but when I open the driver properties, it tells me everything is working fine. I cannot figure this out for s#%t.

splitting audio to two separate output devices in windows 7 x64.I'm preparing my primary PC to act as a Media center. Ideally I'd like for someone to be able to watch netflix, or online videos on the TV with audio and video running through the HDMI cable while someone else can use the PC monitor & desktop speakers to game or do other tasks. The issue is both gaming applications and chrome (or other web browsers) only support audio playing through the default audio device in windows 7. As a result, i'm forced to pick whether i want all audio to play from the TV speakers or the desktop speakers.
Summary of Specs:
Asus M2N-Sli Deluxe mobo - rear port used for desktop speakers
Radeon HD 6870 - HDMI for TV sound
Athlon 64 x2 6000+
4 gigs ram
Doing some research I've learned this was a feature in win XP but was dropped in vista/7. On windows 7 support forums the Microsoft Support reply that it was an intentional omission win both windows 7 and vista.I know how to direct the audio from winamp, media player classic, and WMP to the output device of my choosing.I have tried three third party applications:Virtual Audio Cable: lets me play the same audio out both the HDMI connection and the desktop speakers.IndieVolume: shows promise as it lets me direct audio from applications to the output device i choose, but all attempts to get the software to change my web browser's output device haven't worked. I also think the software is not supported for windows 7 x64.J River - Media Center 17: media center software with an embedded web browser. Using this media center i can direct the audio from any media on my computer to the audio device of my choosing, but the embedded web browser plays out of windows default output device not the audio device i choose.

I am pretty decent with computers but not an expert. I am having a little trouble with my home theater PC display flickering. My video card is a Radeon HD 6900 and the drivers are up to date. I have the HDMI out of my PC going to an Onkyo 7.1ch HT-R590 receiver and it's output going to my LG 42" TV. My OS is Windows 7 Ultimate X64.The system used to work perfectly fine but over time the display started to flicker at random times. I tried to hook my PC directly to my TV and it works perfectly fine, so I am 100% certain the problem is in the receiver. I did a bit of research and it appears to be a problem with my receiver over heating.
Now, if I run my HDMI to my TV, I cannot use 7.1ch surround sound. (Even after playing with Audio Return Channel) If I run optical to the receiver, my video card only puts out 5.1ch surround sound for some weird reason. So I did the next obvious choice, I ran a DVI to HDMI to my TV for video and HDMI to my receiver for audio. I thought it would trick it into thinking there was two displays but this does not work, I do not get audio. was wondering if you guys knew of any utilities that would allow me to output audio on one HDMI stream and video on my DVI port. I did a lot of looking around and it looks like DMCA calls for HDMI to be encrypted and you can't separate the stream. Or would I just be better off getting a separate audio card to connect to my a/v receiver

When playing back two channel pcm music on my diy home theater computer, the output begins to progressively contain random static as additional tracks are played. The operating system is windows 7 64 bit. There are no issues with 5.1 audio as it is always clean. My motherboard is an Asrock H67M and my processor is an i3-2100. The computer is connected to a Yamaha receiver via an HDMI cable.Video from the i3-2100 is outstanding on my 52" Sony TV. I am using the on board Intel display audio device as this appears to be the only way to transmit digital audio output to the receiver via HDMI. The only way to get clean sound when the static becomes unbearable is to turn the computer off and reboot. I'm not sure it matters, but the computer does contain a TV card.

I connected my HP Pavilion dv4-2165dx to my TV via the HDMI slot, and worked perfectly. I disconnected the cable from the notebook when I was done and still got the main LCD display to work. When I restarted the system, the LCD display was gone, just a blank screen with a backlight. The system is booting correctly, I can hear the windows7 startup sounds and even type my password in and access my account. So far I know that:
1. The screen hardware is not damaged, because after some reboots and taking the battery off for an hour I could get the input back with no problem (with windows complaining about being unable to boot and suggesting me to run Startup repair), but got a black screen again after rebooting again.
2. I can connect the HDMI again and get the output on the TV screen, but no main display is detected. If I toggle between displays with fn+f4, only the external HDMI-TV display works.
3. I get no startup screen either. That is, not even the first screen from where I can access the BIOS. But if I connect the HDMI-TV from the beginning I get all that info on the TV.
4. I reinstalled the Graphics driver from HP with no change.
My guess is that somewhat I messed up the default configuration and that the system is only recognizing the external displays as default displays. I haven't been able to modify this from the Control Panel - Display Settings menu, and I don't know where in the registry this default startup options could be.

I have an HP Pavilion Elite HPE machine, Windows 7, Radeon HD 5700 Series graphics card, connected to an Acer monitor and HDTV. Here's details on my setup:
My Equipment | Building a Home Theater With Your Office PC
My problem is that even though my HDMI cable's plugged into my Radeon graphics card, sometimes the PC only recognizes the Acer monitor and not the receiver (that's connected to the HDMI cable and my HDTV). So I end up having to plug and unplug the HDMI cable several times (sometimes 10+) before it recognizes the HDTV/receiver connection. Is there any setting that would favor the card/PC recognizing the HDMI cable more frequently? I've heard it's a handshake issue, and that maybe using a different type of cable would work. But wondering if there's a setting I could use before switching out cables.

My old monitor has problems turning on, I can leave it on for 30hrs before it decides to display a picture, or I can manipulate it by unplugging the DVI cable from the back, but sometimes even that takes a few tries. It's off warranty and for reference it's a Samsung SyncMaster 226BW.So I bought a new monitor and I have it plugged in using HDMI, but a problem I get is that when both monitors are plugged in the HDMI has no display until it gets to Windows, so I cannot see the boot process of my PC, because my old monitor as explained above has problems turning on. Was a hindrance today when I was tinkering with my SSD and had to go to BIOS, and frankly I'd like to be able to see in case anything goes wrong, like a BSOD or Windows update etc.

If I switch back to my computer (which is still on), the sound has been disabled.I have ALL current updates both with "Microsoft" and "ATI".If I go to "playback devices" the section HDMI does NOT offer a "default" selection but "speakers" and "Digital Audio (S/PDIF)" do.This issue started a month or so ago and I'm hoping someone can assist me with a remedy

I've had Win7 for a few months now (thanks to MSDN Academic Alliance) but I've just recently started having this problem. I'm running Win7 Professional on my HP HDX16 laptop. My laptop basically runs flawless when plugged into AC power. When I unplug it, however, CPU usage skyrockets to 95%-100%. I managed to look at the task manager one time at noticed that it isn't necessarily one process that is crippling my computer; It's more like 4 or 5 programs that run around 20 CPU and the rest of the processor is used by various other programs. The process hogging programs vary sometimes, but it usually includes audiodg (audio device graph), mcshield (Mcafee), and a few other svchost (usually Win Defender, Win Firewall and AudioEndpointBuilder). I have the IDT HD audio card for those wondering (and all of the latest drivers from HP).

I'm trying to hook up my TV with my computer, and for the most part it's working. The video goes through and I get how to control it and everything. The only thing not working is the sound.
I'm using an HDMI to HDMI cable, and like I said the video is fine. Also, when the cable is plugged into my boyfriend's laptop, the sound comes out of the TV.
So this must mean the problem is with my computer specifically. Although, this computer is only a month old, so I wouldn't think anything is out of date.

Basically it just gives a BSOD every time i unplug the usb.
I have the latest beta drivers downloaded from windows update.
I have a wired control and the xplorer guitar (gh2), both works perfectly, the only trouble is when i unplug.
The BSOD indicates something like irql less or equal 0x000000a
BTW i cant upgrade the driver because it gives the BSOD when disabling it to do the upgrade.

I have downloaded the Windows 7 RC1 ISO and "burnt" it onto a 16GB OCZ Throttle eSATA / USB drive (exactly as in the SevenForums tutorial). I can boot from this drive and install Windows with no problem.
But... I believe the 200MB system partition is somehow being placed on the flash drive, because once I disconnect it and attempt to boot, I get the standard "DISK BOOT FAILURE..." message.
I've followed the suggestions on the "How to avoid 200MB hidden system partition" page (i.e., pre-create the desired partitions on the installation drive rather than installing to unallocated space), but I'm still getting the problem.
The "Windows might create additional partitions..." dialog box popped up once, on my first installation attempt - and I did foolishly click "OK" to it. It hasn't appeared since for me to click "Cancel" to, however much I try deleting and remaking partitions
Has anything changed in RC1 regarding the system partition? Is it more persistent in creating it than it was with the Beta?

The internet still works as I checked it by plugging it back into laptopThe pc is working all software etc. but there is no internet accesswhen internet works on laptop it says public network but on pc network is unidentified and i can't change it. I tried making a new connection but it asks for username and password and I've never done anything like that. Should i type one in and that creates the password etc. or would i need to have one to create it. I don't really know what the network thing is all about I'm a newb on that part.eI tried network trouble shooter and that didn't help either.

Dual Core Windows 7 Pro 64 bit Toshiba laptop. My daughter was working on a Power Point project for school. She went to plug in her flash drive and it didnt seem to load the drive up. She unplugged it and then plugged it back in. We got a BSOD. We restarted it and it BSOD again. I tried some general troubleshooting, including restoring it to a previous version, and now cannot get into Windows at all. Not even in safe mode. Now I am getting multiple BSODs.
Currently I am seeing these BSODs:
I am getting one when just trying to start and run windows I am getting a BSOD about memory management.
If I try to go into safe mode it loads the files and then I get a BSOD regarding the fbwf.sys. Using the Windows 7 disc I have been able to get to the System Recovery Options. It finds my install and then blue screens with IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL or Driver_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL even before it gets to finding my install.
Other BSODs I know I have seen are regarding the Ntfs.Sys and PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA.

I was wondering if anyone is familiar with a method to enable sounds for when you plug in or remove a charger connected to your laptop. It is not a problem with my pc, but is an option that is not available for me which i would like to install to let me know if i accidentally unplugged the charger, particularly if I'm working on a full-screen feature. I have Windows 7 home Premium 32-bit installed.
