I've had my rig for 2 years and haven't had any hardware issues until recently. I had to re install windows the other day and after I did they install I updated my BIOs and everything else like normal. The problem I am encountering is that my windows is saying I have 12gb of ram but only 5.99gb is usable. I have searched the forums on here and seen quite a few people with the same problem
Going to try and make this brief, "try" being the operative word here.I have a Gateway PC running Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit,4 gigs of ram but obviously not all useable (yet),Dual core processor,Nvidia 9800GT, graphics Card.Corsair 650 watt PSU,HT Omega Striker 7.1 Souncard.Kaspersky Internet Security 2012,Nvidia 280.65 driver (latest)Basically have done a lot of upgrades on this PC with the exception of the otherboard and CPU.Two days ago I noticed when I log into my PC, it will boot up, however shortly after, programs will begin to stop responding. Sometimes the PC will boot into a black screen, other times I get to the desktop and the taskbar clocks and just does not work, then other times as stated, will boot up, work for about 15 to 30 minutes until explorer stops responding and ultimately, everything else I try to use. Here are some behaviors I noticed:Is probably not hardware related as safe mode does work as should no matter how long I use it Could not install programs - when trying, would freeze or fail (in reg desktop) One weird thing I noticed is that the hard drive activity LED will start doing a repetitive pattern when the system begins to freeze... it will light up for 3 to 4 seconds to show activity, then blink on and off, then light again for the same time, then blink.. same exact pattern over and over again.. all the while you can hear the drive making the same noise, almost as thought its "skipping" (again, safe mode does work fine though)Originally, this started with a blue screen that showed a Logitech webcam file that caused it. I uninstalled the, software altogether and reinstalled and seemed to have fixed the BSOD issue That's it for behaviors that I have noticed so far Here is what I have tried with no success:Start up repair SCNDSK /F SCNDSK /R SFC /SCANNOW MSCONFIG - disabled all non microsoft startup items AND services I am above the average user as I do some repairs myself but this has me baffled!! I'm at a loss and really do not want to format.
since yesterday, i logged onto Internet and noticed my sound was not working at all. i have tried disabling my sound and enabling it but it doesn't resolve the problem. i also tried trouble shooting the sound and it told me to plug in the speaker but i have internal speakers, it also said "the peripheral does not appear to be plugged in. check the connection. proceed to next step to finish." i have no idea on how to resolve my sound issues.
I have a new laptop running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. I installed Ultimate and now there is no way to make an Internet connection. The button that had the symbol where you click and connect to a network with Wi-Fi has disappeared. I tried turning the router on and off as well as plugging the laptop into the router with a cable but neither have worked.
So I decide I should either reinstall Home Premium. I put in the CDs that had the drivers, but when I tried to reinstall I got the message "Fail to format disk 0 partition 3" .
Also I was wondering if I should try to install Windows 7 Ultimate again. My main purpose was to run Virtual PC for Windows XP so I could run 16-bit programs, but I would also like to know if I can simply install XP on a computer running Window 7.
i cant get the Asus graphic switch software to work on 64bit win 7 ultimate, maybe because the software i got from the Asus website was the 32bit because there wasn't one for the 64bit. iv'e been told that it should work but when i download and use it, the user interface has no text at all so i don't have a clue what;s going on.
enable the Dreamscene feature in windows 7 ultimate so that I can play movies as my desktop background instead of pictures and play the audio too?I have previously had this done on my vista home premium machine. Cant seem to find out where it is in Windows 7.
I've recently installed windows 7 ultimate and now the scroller on my touchpad isn't working. I've tried updating the driver but it says I've got the most recent update!!
have a Adobe CS3 Master Collection working on Windows 7 Ultimate. It installs alright but when i try to activate it wont work and the 30 day trial version says theres an error.
I am supporting a user who is currently using Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit. They are having issues with Word 2010 Thesaurus not working. If I type in the word 'big' and then press shift and F7 it says there are no recommendations.I have tried running a repair of office, reinstalling office 2010, changing some registry settings and reinstalling the proofing section of office all to no avail.I have searched Google and Microsoft websites and forums but cant find anything more to try.
The windows (Windows7 Ultimate) media player on my laptop is not wrking properly. Its not playing the newly added songs , it always palys the same defalut songs from "All Music" setion. Should chnage the extension of the files to ".mp3" before oprning them on Windows Media Player.
Can I upgrade from Windows ultimate 32bit ver 6.1 ( build 7600) to windows 7 ultimate 64bit edition and keep all of my installed programs and files ?[meaning not having them moved to a new folder called windows.old]
I bought the full retail Win 7 Ultimate and trying to upgrade Windows Vista Ultimate to Win 7 Ultimate, both 32bit. I get to the Expanding Windows files to 21% and nothing. The program is still running and stuck at 21% but after waiting 3 hours I shut power off and Vista was reinstated. Why can't I get past 21% Expanding Windows files? I want to use the upgrade because I have a ton of programs on my Vista and don't want to spend days reinstalling them.
how can i change my 32 bit win7 ultimate free dos to 64 bit win7 ultimate?can i do it without charge? where can i get it done?? can i get the iso/disk in downloadable format?
I've tried to upgrade from Vista Ultimate 32 bit to 7 Ultimate 32 bit numerous times now, all with the same result: a BSOD during the install process, which I get during (what I think is) the final step called "Transferring files, settings and programs."
The installation compatibility test warns me about my Nvidia drivers, which I've attempted to both remove and upgrade to the latest version, but that doesn't seem to make a difference (I still get the warning during the compatibility check, and I still get the blue screen). I'm not sure that's even the problem, either. I can't (easily) remove/replace the video card, since my mobo doesn't have onboard video, so I'd hopefully be able to avoid having to do that.
The error in the blue screen is a nebulous "REFERENCE_BY_POINTER" message. The technical information is "STOP: 0x00000018 (0x00000000, 0x86478030, 0x00000002, 0xFFFFFFFF)."
As a zip file, I've attached the setup log, error log, compatibility report, and what I think is the setup dump file, all of which I found in C:$WINDOWS.~BTSourcesPanther (I believe that's the right place to look). The logs complain about BthMig problems, which I think has something to do with bluetooth, but I don't have any bluetooth peripherals. I've uninstalled things that I thought might have some bluetooth things in it, like MS Intellitype (maybe a stretch), but again, no difference.
System specs: AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+, on an Asus M2N SLI Deluxe, with 4 GB of ram, and an Nvidia GeForce 8800 GT. The hard drive I'm installing (upgrading) on has about 100 GB free.
I'm trying to upgrade a computer from Vista Ultimate (32 bit) to 7 Ultimate (32 bit) and I keep receiving this error message:
"This installation disc isn't compatible with your version of Windows. To upgrade, you need the correct installation disc. For more information, check your computer's system information. To install a new copy of Windows, restart (boot) your computer using the installation disc, and then select Custom (advanced)."
Now, I double-checked all the system requirements and the system is compatible with 7.
Today I began installing windows 7 ultimate on my laptop. However, I grabbed my ultimate N disk instead of my Ultimate disk. is there a way to upgrade to normal ultimate version. I have setup windows media center on every tv in my house and would like to have it on my laptop lol. I would realy rather not wipe and reinstall so i dont have to install all the drivers and anitvirus again...
The problem likely started when I cloned my drive to a new Seagate drive using a Seatools *Seagate** utility, which I believe is actually made by Acronis. The final fix was installing new drivers for the Hard drive from Intel "Intel Rapid Storage Technology"
Symptoms = Failure code when trying to start indexing = 0x8e5e0247 Search function would not work properly Indexing was not working Could not get Windows update to install
windows 7 indexing is not running acronis clone Intel Rapid Storage Technology 0x8e5e0247 windows update not working
I have a HP dv6910us Pavilion and the DVD is not listed in Device Manager. DVD Tray opens and light comes on but does not play DVD. 1st USB port on left side gets - USB Device Not Recognized. One under it works and one on the right side works.OS Windows7 Ultimate. It is running kind of screwy so I wanted to reinstall Windows7 but with the DVD not operating Can't do it. Seems like maybe something in the register got erased or corrupted. If I can get the DVD and USB port to work I won't have to reinstall Windows 7
I am about to install windows 7 on my Mac Via bootcamp, The issue that I am having is that I lost my windows 7 x32 Pro CD but I have my CD key. Now I have a copy of Windows 7 x64 Ultimate. My question is, can I use my CD key for Windows Pro while using the Windows 7 x64 Ultimate CD just to install windows 7 pro?
if this has been asked before, but I was wondering how many GBs of storage Windows 7 takes up? I was recently given a 60GB SSD for my computer. The plan was to install Windows 7 and a few programs / games on the SSD and use my 3TB HDD for everything else. After I installed Windows 7 Ultimate x64 and a few basic programs my SDD is practically full. Is this normal?
I installed practically all important and optional updates Windows offered. Looking back on it now I am thinking that this might have been a problem. Are there updates that take up a lot of memory that I don't need? Also is there a way to uninstall previous updates?
I know that to add more than 8gbs of ram you need win7 pro or ultimate. My question is, do I go for pro or ultimate? (Upgrade). Also what are the true benefits of having say, 12 or 16gb of ram?

I'm using Windows 7 Home Premium. My wireless connection has been working on and off for a while, but now it just refuses to work. The other computers in the wireless network are working just fine, so it must be definitely something in my laptop.I can detect the network just fine, with good signal. It says:
Media State: Enabled IPv4 Connectivity: No internet access IPv6 Connectivity: No internet access
Also, in the activity there are Bytes sent and received, but I cannot connect to any webpage either with Chrome of Firefox I'm using McAfee Security Center. I tried turning off the firewall, but it still doesn't work.
Unable to use rename. Command is normal for less than 1 second then reverts back to prior state. I have to use "properties" to rename files. Cannot use Favorites or Bookmarks. They drop down normally but disappear before you select anything. Cannot type addresses in Firefox or IE. I type 1 or 2 letters and they become high lighted in blue, as in rename, and are deleted for the next letter. Now I type the site I want in a search engines and enter the site that way. My system is built around a P5q3 Azus motherboard and runs 7 Ultimate, Norton360, Advanced System Care, and A-Squared free.
