I installed Windows 7 ultimate 64bits and since I use Google chrome, I installed that, with the toolbar, but every time I reboot PC, CHrome is goneOn the toolbar is only IE8...What is going on? On XP this never happened??Can I safely get rid off IE and "keep" Chrome? I am afraid to delete it, or uninstall it cause I might not have a IE at all.
I have a processor that is capable of handling a 64 bit operating system. Right now I am currently running a 32 bit operating system. Is there any way I could install 64 bit Windows 7 Ultimate without erasing my entire operating system?
For some reason I can't get my icons for IE8, chrome and chrome plus working. Start menu or otherwise. Can someone offer some advice. I use specific browsers for day to day use and all I get are graphic tags.
I have a dell dimension 9100. I have two drives on it, a ~160gb drive that came with it with xp, and a 500gb drive with Windows 7. I put the Windows 7 in myself and had been using that. Finally, I decided to erase the old drive with xp on to install linux on it. After erasing the old drive, my computer won't start up. It says it cant find sata 1 or 3. I've tried switching the cables hooking up to it but that f I push continue after it tells me how it can't find them, it says 'loading pbr for descriptor 2...done' and stays there. I did not erase windows 7, I checked. Whats wrong? I erased the old drive so I could install ubuntu on it... I'm guessing since thats the drive the computer came with, I deleted the mbr... I have an external drive with ubuntu I can use to fix this. Before you say to use the windows install disk to fix it, I've already tried that. The repair utility doesn't scan and thus doesn't see my install.
The more I think about it, the more that it seems like its NOT an mbr thing. I think this because of the fact that the windows repair disk doesn't see any installation of windows. The hard drive is not dead. I can read it via ubuntu. Sorry if this thread is hard to understand, I've copied and pasted on multiple forumsHeres the latest: Disabled all other sata's in the bios except the one the drive is plugged to. Now I no longer see sata3 not found or anything.
I dont click on it but it erases stuff like moving objects or videos.. you just move it around and it erases white . what is causeing that....this is a mouse that I use with my laptop?
so i have a job coming up that requires carefull erasing of data, i can't scrub the whole hard drive but need to be able to write over the data areas of one single user account location.
now i am wondering is there a way to find out the sector locations for all data on a hard drive for a given user so i can write over those areas to make them as unrecoverable as possible?
i am aware that i am probably asking for something that isn't possible but figured why not ask anyway someone might know of some software that does this.
HDD: ST30005 28AS. Failing. I have to recover some data and throw it away. With Seatools dos cd, I accidentally the first sector. I also set it at that time at 33 gb. Now I can't see any partitions in it. I tried everything in HIREN's boot cd. The drive was failing, 15 minutes at windows loading, SMART messages to backup it, etc. I low level formatted it when it was 33 GB. My data is a few GB beyond anyway. However I played with it I can't read anything from it. Help.OK, so the drive is my third, a storage drive. I disconnected the other drives, inserted the Windows 7 recovery disk, but it didn't do anything. I couldn't find the ol' cmd menu I knew from other times. (Info or help -> a series of commands, including fixmbr.) It found the drive, but couldn't say anything about it. So no access, no identity, no status of it, nothing. Windows keeps telling me to replace the drive, but sees no volume informations. How the hell can a drive become invisible at any kind of content mode? I just used the menu from seatools and it vanished. How can it offer a delete for first sector but no fresh write of it?
my dad got a new pc and so I rand a back up from his old one to the new with a seagate network hard drive and he returned the old one the problem is that now there are multiple duplicates of his documents and pictures is there a non-risk painless way of getting rid of those duplicates as there are thousands of duplicates?
I have a desktop and have 2 hard drives 1 is running Windows 7 and 1 is running Windows Vista. I would like to completely erase the hard drive so there is no operating system on it (the Vista drive). I would still like to store files on it. I have looked out there on google but I would not like to use third-party software.
I've changed the location of my Chrome user profile folder, and created a shortcut which has user-data-dir=d: ew chrome user directory location" appended to its target. But when Chrome is opened any other way than via this shortcut, for instance when launching a web page file saved to my computer, Windows opens Chrome with the old profile. How can that be fixed?
So I picked up a OCZ 256GB Vertex 4, and since I reinstalled Windows and everything on it Chrome has always been slow. Closing tabs sometimes takes several second. Sounds like a small problem.
Chrome used all the 16GB of RAM @ 300+ tabs open. I have never thought it will happened. Now I wonder if Firefox8 would have the same use age. This is Chrome 17.0.938.0 BETA.No slow down at all, but msg about low RAM popped up.The old C2D E6750 would buckled already, and 2600K no issue. World of difference for anyone who wants to upgrade. Best upgrade on PC u can do, fast CPU, second is SSD.Windows are running great, everything responses normal.
Over the past two weeks a very annoying audio pop up keeps coming up; even with IE & Chrome not running. It even ran with the lid closed in hibernate mode. While monitoring explorer.exe, using task manager, when it does make its audio appearance -- i notice a significant increase in explorer.exe activity.
I have had the same problem for more than 6 months..None of the solutions anyone posts has worked. This is my second time posting here. Previous threads have been closed, but not because any solution was found. It's possible there may be more than one cause for the same or similar error.I've had this problem now for the last 6 months at least. Every single time I use Chrome.. it's the same thing. My system freezes and I have to wait for the dialog to pop up with Chrome.exe and please insert a disk in blah blah blah.. When the dialog pops up right away I can just click try again and it goes away, but other times the dialog doesn't pop up for a minute or longer.Incredibly frustrating. It makes me want to chuck my computer out the window, even though it's an awesome computer.
My wife's computer has an issue that just started a week ago that's driving me nuts. The PC has been running Windows 7 Home Edition (64 bit) for over a year. She sat down to use her computer and tried to open IE (IE9). When she clicked on it, a window popped up that says "Internet explorer has stopped working". What's more troublesome is that NONE of the browsers on her PC worked (FF, Chrome, IE). They all give similar error messages and refuse to start.A friend of mine tried all of the following with no luck (the PC rebooted after each of these tasks):
Removed Chrome and FF. No change. ran Avast ran Malwareybytes ran Adaware ran Microsoft Security Essentials
[code]....
The kicker is that after all of this, I decided to install Opera and Safari and they work!! But the other three browsers still won't work! Also, if I boot into Safe Mode, all browsers work (IE, FF, Chrome). No changes were made to her computer prior to this happening. I really want to avoid re-installing Windows 7.
Installed Chrome 16.0912.63, and am happy with it except for one thing, would like to customize the toolbar so the forward/back arrows, refresh, home, etc. icons are on the right side of the screen. There seems to be very few toolbar options, or my searching is really really flawed
I want, for the sake of my netbook's battery, hard disk defrag, etc.... to disable the Google Chrome cache as it is writing to the HDD and therefore using my netbook's battery.
I'm using Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit. Java won't run in IE9 but will run in Firefox and Chrome. When I go to Verify Java Version at Java.com in Firefox and Chrome they return Version 7 Update 9 but the test never returns a result in IE9. I uninstalled and reinstalled Java, Java add-ons are enabled. Security settings look ok.Some sites return "An add-on for this website failed to run". Same sites in Firefox and Chrome work fine. Java games don't work in IE9 but same games play in Firefox and Chrome.
I want a cookie manager for chrome. want to save selected cookies so they are permanently saved when I clear cookies, and delete anything not "saved" I use cookie culler for firefox. best choice for chrome?
I am getting BSOD on my Asus U56E. This is a refurbished laptop i received and BSOD has been happening since day 1. It often happens when I use Mozilla Firefox and sometimes with Chrome. First the mouse pointer freezes up and thereafter BSOD comes up.I had called up Asus customer support and they helped me update BIOS and keyboard driver but it still keeps happening.
I was using my computer when my mother accidentally hit the room switch which turns my entire rig off. I turn my computer back on and now my screen resolution is all messed up. On top of that I can't open Chrome due to misplaced files. I reinstalled all my drivers but instead of detecting the name of my monitor, it just shows Generic PnP Monitor instead.I pick the best screen res(1600 x 1200) but that is clearly wrong(but the best i can do). I've done a system restore and reinstalled all my drivers. I looked for the Acer X223W drivers but all I got was a security catalog, setup information, and an ICC profile that doesn't do anything when I run it. I searched for driver updates on device manager but it says the Generic PnP monitor driver is up to date.
Every time I open a new tab, or even a new instance of Google Chrome, or sometimes even just clicking a link on a page in Chrome, Chrome freezes, and sometimes other apps freeze too, and after somewhere between 10 seconds and 60 seconds, an error message occurs. The error message is titled "chrome.exe - No Disk" The message body says "There is no disk in the drive. Please insert a disk into drive DeviceHarddisk5DR5.It presents three clickable options: Cancel, Try Again, and Continue. If I click Try again or Continue, I can usually (99% of the time) move on without further problems, but the big problem is the delay between when the offending activity occurs (opening a new tab or instance of Chrome, or clicking a link on a page in Chrome) and when the error message shows up.
Here's my machine data:

Right now I'm working with Internet explorer. Firefox and Chrome don't open any websites. I changed the internet settings in control panel but it didn't help. Some people tell it's about antivirus programs. I am using NOD32 antivirus?
I am running windows 7 pro 64 bit and recently been having some issues I first noticed with firefox. Computer boots up and loads the main screen but then when I try to open firefox or IE nothing happens. some applications work fine (chrome, garmin training centre) but others will not open at all including the restore application, Itunes, msconfig and others.
The network and sharing centre icon in the tray had a blue circle over it as if it's trying to do something after 10minutes that is replaced with red cross and then after a further 5 minutes or so the red cross goes and all the things I was trying to open actually open.
If i open in safe mode with networking it is all fine and I can open everything straight off. The only new thing I have installed is nebak replicator a device that is meant to back up folders to a NAS.
I have Zone alarm anti virus and firwall latest version and that hasn't picked up anything. I have also scanned with spy bot and nothing there. attached is hijack log
So I like to stay on top of things, and that mean at least running betas of browsers, if not dev channels, and what do I stumble on in Chrome? A new download manager. It's not on by default, so you won't see it right away, but if you go to ABOUT:FLAGS, and enable "New Downloads UI" you no longer get that annoying download bar at the bottom of Chrome. I know some may like that, but I hate it, so to me this is a welcome find. I also noticed they added "Smooth Scrolling", but again, it's not on by default, so you need to enable it under flags too.
One of the features I like about FF is that it gives you the option to remember user names and passwords. Not sure if the latest Chrome and IE do the same??
