all the files on the C Drive including the hidden file account for 37.3GB with 8.78GB free with Vertex 2's total space of 55.7. Meaning that i have 9.62GB space missing.

I just installed more ram for my computer, i was running with 8bg total with 4 2bg sticks and i had some troubles with my first ram slot not working correctly so i switched to 2 4bg sticks a 2bg stick in the three remaining. after checking my ram available it is showing 5.99gb available. Just wondering if there is some tips as to why this might be happening? my bios hasnt been updated since 2009 and is a ASUS P7P55 LX.

I have a 60gb ssd and a 1tb HDD. I use the 60gb crucial m4 for Windows 7 only. The rest goes inside the HDD.
So I am asking, Will my 60gb ssd be enough for windows 7? I do all my installations on the HDD. But sometimes, Graphic card drivers and tiny bits of programs and minecraft get in the SSD. But will it be enough for a good 5 years of usage?
Currently, I have 22.4gb free of 59.5gb. For some werid reason, the amount avalible decreases very very slowly. I think its because of the programs I install like itunes. Their configurations get saved and I also have drivers in it. These pesky files get saved inside "program data" and "users".
And is there a way to make installations install on the HDD? When selecting where to install, I select the HDD but some files still go into the SSD.
I have a 60GB Intel SSD that I use as a Windows 7 Home Premium boot drive. I have done my best to keep everything off of this drive except Windows. I have 1 or 2 applications on it; nothing massive at all. In fact, the biggest App is 500mb. However, my drive has somehow accumulated 52GB of data on it. I click the properties of the Windows drive and it say its 14GB in size.
I have gone through and looked at the properties of every single folder on the first level of C and nothing is more than 500Mb Why is this happening? 40GB of information is a lot of data to just be unaccounted for. I have done all of the basic "Clean up" methods, emptied the Trash, etc.
I literally use this computer for gaming only, nothing else except maybe a quick internet search. There is no anti-virus installed, only games and hardware drivers.

I removed 1 2GB stick and installed the 8GB to make it 10GB. when i check the memory in the BIOS it shows 0245 but when i boot to desktop it show 10GB. performance of the machine just like the running the pc on 4GB. anyone has an idea of what i can do to boost the performance?

I have been mostly a Mac user and I have been out of the loop for sometime (5yrs). I have some data that I need to have burned (user folder) that is 10gb. I would like to have this burned to DVD. What is a good program that would allow me to just drag the folder into the program and it will automatically burn multiple DVDs. Is Nero still top notch or has something replaced it? This software would be for a PC.

View 3 Replies View RelatedEarlier today I tried to restore a windows system image to my 120 Gb OCZ Vertex III SSD. The restore process started with no problems, but stopped after a few seconds and would go no further. So then, I decided to try another image I had created with Easeus Todo Backup and the same thing happened. The restore process started and then suddenly stopped. I thought about it for a while and decided to try to Clean All command in Diskpart to wipe the disk and start over. When the disk was successfully wiped I started the restore process once again and it worked like a charm. Since I was concerned about the system restore not working the first time, I decided to see if I could restore the image from Easesus Todo Backup, but once again, the restore started, but then stopped and when I tried the windows system image again, the same thing happened. The only way I seem to be able to get an image to restore on my SSD is to wipe it first. This has never been the case with my hard drives and I was wondering if anyone else had encountered this problem with SSD's, and if there was a solution for it.

According to the FAQ on steam this is caused by a lack of paged pool memory which is reserved for apps like direct3d.
To get round this issue its recommended that you remove a line form the boot.ini which unlocks the page pool memory. The line is /3GB /Userva=2900
Does anyone know where this line is in windows 7 or how I can unlock the paged pool memory as I'm finding the crashes are starting to interfere with my enjoyment of gaming.
just installed windows 7 64 Bit on a 30gb SSD. I also have it running on a Gigabyte 790xt motherboard with a XFX Radeon 5870 HD. The first time after installing windows the computer started extremely fast. I first noticed a freeze up when I restarted the system. It will get to the point where it says starting windows, then for some reason it freezes. After about a minute or two, the win 7 floating logo finally appears and the system process to boot.
So my problem is that installing an SSD in I expect the system to boot immediately. But with the freezing it defeats the purpose. Anyone come across this freeze before the windows pogo appears?
Idk how to handle an SSD yet. Do I enable SMART? Or is there a special option for it? Or is my system hanging on something not related to the SSD, or is there a hardware conflict anyone an see?
I have been the owner of a Vertex 2 120 GB for a year now and everything was perfect. I am using Windows 7 on the SSD (AHCI mode); my computer has also a 1 TB hard disk. Last week I created a second partiion on SSD and installed Windows 8 Consumer Preview (dual-boot with Windows 7). After few days I decided to stay with Windows 7 , so I format the 2nd partition and merge it with the first (using Paragon Partition Manager). The operation completed successfully, however, after restarting, the BIOS hangs at:
Controller Bus#0, Device#1F, Function#02: 06 Ports, 02 Devices
(although there are 3: the SSD, the HDD and the DVD-RW)
If I remove the other two devices and try only the SSD, I get: Port-00: No device Detected.
Without the SSD connected, the computer boots from the HDD. If I plug the SSD while the operating system is running from the HDD (I also have Windows installed on it), the drive is recognized and shown in Windows Explorer. I tried flashing the firmware on SSD from this Windows and succeeded, but still no change. The SSD light is green, I reseted the CMOS by removing the battery on mainboard, I reseted the BIOS to the default settings...nothing works! Then I changed in BIOS from AHCI to IDE mode and I can boot now from SSD! However, Paragon Partition Manager shows me this:
"Invalid Partition - Unknown : Paragon Hard Disk Manager has discovered problems with this partition. It must have been caused by an incorrect geometry. In order to resolve the issue, please collect LOG-files and send them to our Support Team".
However, Disk Management in Windows shows no error, so. But how do I get back to AHCI? I tried to activate it again and the SSD hasn't been recognized again. Do I have to Secure Erase the drive using OCZ Toolbox and reinstall Windows? If I change back to AHCI in BIOS after Secure Erase, will the SSD be recognized?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have tried everything by the book and have no luck. Here's the problem, I have a 4 drive setup:
-60Gb SSD (Windows 7 Ult x64 + some programs) (c)
-30Gb SSD (i)
-1Tb HDD (h)
-250Gb HDD (empty reserved for Win) (f)
As the 60Gb SSD drive is full I want to migrate the whole drive to the empty 250Gb HDD. Of course, no need to say that I want everything to run afterwards without any re-installs (also the files on i and h). I have tried many clone software (Paragon, EaseUS ToDo etc) and the clone goes ok, but it wont boot from the destination drive. Luckily enough I still have the original c drive otherwise I would be stuck! I also looked at the Windows backup and restore, but by default it want to clone all my drives and I cant deselect them (over a Tb of a backup??)
Now what can I do to get this sorted? I just want contents of the 60Gb SSD (with Windows 7) on the empty 250Gb HDD. Also, when cloned, the new drive is not 'c' anymore. How would all programs/files work? Or is the idea that you delete the original drive and then rename the copy to 'c'? I probably do something wrong, but a clean install would take days (as web designer I use loads of software and not looking forward to reinstall all those).
I recently bought a new laptop with a 60gb ssd drive from toshiba. Under the Intel Rapid Storage Technology app, it shows the full 60gb, however under my computer it only shows just under 30gb. I have hidden files shown, and nothing is showing, so Im perplexed, seems to be missing 30gb, half the drive.

I just got a computer for free, a Dell Studio 1555. When I got it, it would try to boot, then come to a screen that said that bootmgr.exe was missing. Sometimes I got a message that said something like mpio.sys was corrupted or missing. I have a Win 7 disk, so I put it in and tried to repair the installation. Each time I ran it, it said that the repair had failed. I tried to reinstall windows 7, and It made it to the first restart in the process. It showed the "Starting Windows" screen, but the colors of the windows logo never appeared, then I got the missing bootmgr screen. I decided to install Ubuntu and see if that worked, and it did (I installed it alongside the Windows installation). It was Ubuntu 10.04. I thought, "OK, so i'll just use this as a Linux machine"...and I decided to go back and reinstall so that I could use the entire hard drive. It never worked correctly again. Each subsequent time that I installed Ubuntu, I was told something along the lines of "Gnome Power Manager did not install correctly" and got a slow and choppy Ubuntu installation.Tried to install 11.10, and it failed completely. I opened the Ubuntu live from my usb drive, and opened the disk utility. I now cannot format, reformat, partition, or delete partitions on the drive. Is all of this just a case of a hard drive on its last legs, or is there something else going on here?

View 3 Replies View RelatedMy setup had an MBR issue a few days ago after installing Skyrim. I was unable to repair it using the windows 7 instal disc. I tried the automatic fix as well as bootrec.exe. After giving up and reinstalling a fresh windows 7, my rig has not been starting up properly. It insists on waking up from sleepwhen it was shutdown, i.e. Not sleeping. Well after a few days of this with no other problems, bootmgr can't be found again. Now, when I load the repair disc, it can't find my OS to even try a bootrec.exe on. But, when i go to load drivers the explorer window allows me to browse my c:/ drive and the installation is there. I would prefer to fix rather than reinstall due to a symantec DRM issue.

I've had this laptop handed to me after my friend's son tried to restore using the supplied restore disk, but it failed.Not having the win 7 disk, only the restore, I ran ntfs for dos and there are no files on the hard drive anymore. I have 3 physical hard drives, we'll call them A, B, and C. Hard Drive A has a partition for Windows 7, a NTFS partition for storage, a EXT3 (Linux), and swap (Linux). Hard Drive B has 1 NTFS for storage. Hard Drive C has 1 NTFS for storage. I am trying to replace Hard Drive B (with nothing related to Windows 7 on it) and when I try to boot into Windows with my new blank drive installed I get "NTLDR is missing." From what I've read NTLDR was only used up to Windows XP. The drive I am trying to remove isn't even associated with Windows 7 anyway. When I put Drive B back in everything works fine again. why I cant remove drive B even though it has nothing to do with the physical or logical drive containing Windows 7?
View 4 Replies View RelatedRunning Win7 and certain programs do not display options. For example... if I run msconfig.... it pops up but there's nothing there... just a blank GUI... If I try to install a program... the install wizard pops up... but it's just a blank GUI... same with Task Manager. I can run CMD though. I tried to run a Outlook export and the export wizard is also just a blank GUI. And then in Chrome when I try to browse websites it's like 90% of the CSS doesn't work. I think I might have a virus but Kaspersky couldn't find any issues... I also tried some online scanners. I want to install some more serious software but I can't get through the wizards because the options don't exist.

(See attached images.)It's not just Windows related dialogs that are missing text. Some of my programs, such as Team Viewer and Advanced System Care, are also missing text while others such as Malwarebytes are not. Also, some Windows dialogs such as Task Manager and System restore are missing text but others such as Device manager are not.I have tried updating all my display drivers directly from the Samsung website but nothing seems to be working.
