Windows 7 ISC LAN Stuck On "Identifying"
Dec 29, 2011
I have my 4G phone tethered to my Laptop and I set up a shared network from the mainstream LAN2 so that I can then connect my PS3 to the internet. I've done this before via PC with no problem at all. Well for some reason when I try this with my laptop it just wont connect. All it keeps saying on LAN1 is "Identifying..."

I still couldn't get my wireless internet to begin working on my laptop. It goes between saying "Identifying... (NETGEAR) No internet access" and something like "Unidentified (something something) Limited Access." I've had this problem for about 2 weeks now and I just can't get it to work.I had the rundll32 virus and I believe something called "PING.exe" and I got rid of them with TDSSKiller, but after the reboot my internet wouldn't work and I got a prompt saying that PowerISO couldn't launch properly or something like that. I uninstalled PowerISO but the internet problem remains.

My internet was working fine and I had left it on overnight to download some stuff. Woke up next morning, the computer was off due to the wall socket switch being put off. After putting the computer back on , the internet will not work now. It connects but I cannot browse or do anything .The local area connection just says identifying and the IPv4 connectivity says no network access.
I don't know if this is a software or hardware problem or if some settings were somehow changed . I tried updating my network adapter drivers to no effect. Then again I don't know if I updated it with the right one. I then system restored to the night when everything was working fine and still no effect . Ant ideas ? A friend said that because the computer was just switched off by the power source perhaps the network adapter blew.

I recently moved into a new apartment. My roommate has a macbook and an Apple AirPort Express router. She is able to connect to the wireless network just fine, but on my laptop with Windows 7 (x64), the connection is stuck on identifying. I attached the output from ipconfig /all: ipconfig.txt

My desktop is stuck on "identifying" when I try to get an internet connection. My laptop wireless works fine. I have uninstalled all network drivers (including hidden), rebooted router, googloed for 8 hours now.
- Model of network card/chip? Realtek RTL8168B/8111b family pci - E gigabit ethernet NIC
- Is your Windows 7 32bit or 64bit? 7 64bit
- Are you talking about wired or/and wireless connections? wired (wireless is fine)
- Are you connected to a router or directly to the modem? router
- Is your network card/chip recognized under "Device Manager"? (its there and I removed all adapters (and hidden) and rebooted a few times
- Did you verify your ethernet cable to be sure there is no damage, or that it's not bent? yes
- Did you configure an Ip adress yourself or you left it do that automatically? tried both...I get a very wierd IP address 169.254.197.21 and when I try to get to router using 169.198.0.1 it gives me an error message.
- Did you installed the proper network drivers? yes
- Is there anything else that doesn't act normal? for desktop "identifying .. no internet access" on the wireless connection.. the desktop is showing error..BUT my laptop is working and at full strength...which is how I am commmunicating now. Have you used Spybot S&D to remove those pesky spywares that prevents the computer from connecting to the web?

I have an internet connection issue on my desktop that has had me pulling my hair out the last 6+ hours - it may (or may not) be connected to the removal of a zeroaccess rootkit recently. Unfortunately, I removed it, then i've been away at my girlfriends since - so I can't remember exactly what I used to remove it - I believe it was the Kaspersky tool. Anyway, ever since startup this morning, i've not been able to connect to the net. I haven't even been able to connect to another computer (this laptop) via a crossover cable. The connection to the net (wireless) is stuck on "identifying". I've googled it and tried some steps i've found on the net, and here within the forums, to no avail. The key issue appears to be linked to AFD.sys, it is in the system32 folder, but not showing in the device manager (hidden devices shown) nor in services.msc! I've tried registry repairs, from those i've downloaded, even to the reg settings for AFD from this laptop - both running 7 Ultimate 64. I'm at the end of my limited ability/knowledge.

About a month ago, I was hit with a virus and thats when this problem started. I have definitively gotton rid of the virus but the connectivity problem remains. Weirdly, i used sfc/ scannow and it fixed it. Then i went to my sisters house, connected to her wireless network, and when I came back and tried connecting to my network wirelessly I found the same problem I just got rid of, only the sfc /scannow didn't work. I have tried deleting my Ivp6, reseting the winsock, ip address, and connecting to the router through wires does not work?

I'm trying to connect my machine to a network over (wired) LAN. The connection (including internet) works fine in general, but when I open the "Network and Sharing Center", under "View your active networks" it only says "Identifying..." and the network name never appears. I think it has something to do with the (Cisco) routers not supporting the "Broadcast" flag, but disabling it in the registry didn't help either.I need to set my network type to home, but in order to do that Windows needs to recognize it first...

The main router I use, the one I'm usually connected to, has been having the same issue I had a few months ago. It's the router everyone in the house is connected to, weird part is , mine is the only one that does this. It shows the 5 bars but It has a CAUTION sign, the yellow triangle with a ! in it, it says the router I'm connected to is "Identifying or Unidentified". If its like that, I cant connect to the internet at all, can't do anything that involves the internet. I want to go back to me WIDEBAND router, I'm stuck on my crappy neighbors internet

recently, I have gotten adware or malware claiming to be an antivirus says i have 48 viruses and trojans that I got rid of with malwarebytes. Days later I tried to connect to my wireless router with an endless loop of "identifying network" as a result. I'm 100% sure its not the router because I went to my friends house and tried connecting there with no luck.

So I'm running Ultimate x64 using Outpost Pro 6.7 when the pc boots up it says identifying network. This takes at least 3 minutes to do. I turn off OP and reboot it starts immediately (OP not running). Is anyone else experiencing this issue? I have been searching for days to no avail. I am kinda partial to Outpost. Once it identifies the network everything works. I can share files with other pcs and all. I am also using Linksys WRT54G router with OpenDNS. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I also posted over on OP forums with no response yet. I can't believe I'm the only one experiencing this.

I have Windows 7 Ultimate installed on my machine. Whenever I try to connect to a wireless network it does not get connected. It keeps only identifying...
I am getting IPs using DHCP only and rest all things like authentication are correct.
If I run "ipconfig -all" it gives "Media disconnected" for all adapters, does it mean it's hardware issue?

Windows 7 home premium 32bit
zonealarm basic firewall
wlancard dell 1450 usb
Info: the card never had a vista or windows 7 driver. A computer skilled took out a folder from the windows xp installer. Through device manager the folder is installed as driver, and the wlan card works. I wanted to use ubuntu 'remote terminal server'.Connected via pc to pc lan cross over cable. Maybe the connection succeded because ping test was ok. But never made the
program 'remote terminal server' work. At a point zonealarm made trouble, allthough disabled. Shutting down computer worked. Error: Next time I turned on the computer, wlan didn't work. The wlan card makes the connection but there is a yellow triangle on the wifi icon in taskbar. Under network it keeps hanging, messaging 'identifying'.I tried this: Reinstalling zonealarm basic. Reinstalling wlan card folder driver. Didn't work.

I have recently been having difficulties with connecting with my wireless connection. We have a in-home router that is connected to two computer's downstairs by cable. I however own a Acer, Windows 7 laptop that I mainly use upstairs and I get a Excellent signal strength.I have connected to my Home wireless connection before with no problem but recently the connection keeps coming up as ~Identifying... No Internet Access. Also when I have had connection to this network prior to this problem the connection is under Home. But when I try to connect to the same network it comes up as Public or just keeps Identifying. I have the connection set to Connect Automatically. Also the yellow triangle with the exclamation point almost always pops up immediately when I reboot my system or after I Disconnect and Connect the network again. I have tried Disabling and Enabling the network in the adapter settings and this does not work either. In the manage wireless networks tab, I have repeatedly deleted the connection and reentered the security password and again put it as automatically connect but it still comes up as Identifying. I have seen many people with this same problem and have tried many of the suggestions to no avail. It is rather bizarre because my connection will be in this Identifying state for a while and randomly connect properly and I have no idea what makes it go off and on so erratically. I just had it working again for a few days and it is again acting up.

Both my laptop and desktop are running Windows 7 64 bit. They both have the same issue through wired ethernet, but not through wireless connections. The reason I do not use wireless is because I only have 2-zero bars in my room. I am at a college campus and they have said the problem is mine and not theirs. The problem is that whenever my computer turns on or awakens from sleep, the ethernet connection is gone and for about 15 minutes it says "Identifying... No Internet Access." The wired connection starts after about 15 minutes, but this is insanely difficult and frustrating to maneuver around since I often don't have 15 minutes to wait.
I have tried various things from forums to no avail. These things include disabling IP 6, updating my ethernet driver from the website, manually setting the IP, and disabing Avast. I do not have any firewall other than Windows Firewall and only have basic programs like Office, Itunes, Firefox.... I am convinced the issue is with the college network, but they have said their test computer was unable to duplicate my problem in my room.

For over a month our HP Compac Presario CQ57 displayed that our Windows 7 might not be genuine. Hence, the computer keeps crashing. This morning the computer crashed and would not come back on again. The computer is stuck on Welcome. I finally got back into the computer and put a product key number, which I took from my other new computer, and it stated that the PN was accepted. However, we are still having the same problem. It will not start in Safe Mode, it will not work if we do a repair, because it asks for a cd, which we did not get with our computer. What can we do get our computer to go past the welcome screen?
