Wireless Network Is Stuck In An Identifying Loop?
Sep 26, 2011
My wireless won't connect to the internet at work and get stuck saying it is identifying. It works at home. All the other computers in the office work so it must be my computer. I've tried stuff on other forums or just get ignored. I operate a Lenovo V570 with Windows 7 64bit. The internet works when wired. Its just the wireless.

I still couldn't get my wireless internet to begin working on my laptop. It goes between saying "Identifying... (NETGEAR) No internet access" and something like "Unidentified (something something) Limited Access." I've had this problem for about 2 weeks now and I just can't get it to work.I had the rundll32 virus and I believe something called "PING.exe" and I got rid of them with TDSSKiller, but after the reboot my internet wouldn't work and I got a prompt saying that PowerISO couldn't launch properly or something like that. I uninstalled PowerISO but the internet problem remains.

I have Windows 7 Ultimate installed on my machine. Whenever I try to connect to a wireless network it does not get connected. It keeps only identifying...
I am getting IPs using DHCP only and rest all things like authentication are correct.
If I run "ipconfig -all" it gives "Media disconnected" for all adapters, does it mean it's hardware issue?

I have a laptop in our office that is about 4 months old and is constantly identifying the wireless network. I have tried everything! I even have just re formatted it and re installed everything from scratch but I still have the same problem.

I have recently been having difficulties with connecting with my wireless connection. We have a in-home router that is connected to two computer's downstairs by cable. I however own a Acer, Windows 7 laptop that I mainly use upstairs and I get a Excellent signal strength.I have connected to my Home wireless connection before with no problem but recently the connection keeps coming up as ~Identifying... No Internet Access. Also when I have had connection to this network prior to this problem the connection is under Home. But when I try to connect to the same network it comes up as Public or just keeps Identifying. I have the connection set to Connect Automatically. Also the yellow triangle with the exclamation point almost always pops up immediately when I reboot my system or after I Disconnect and Connect the network again. I have tried Disabling and Enabling the network in the adapter settings and this does not work either. In the manage wireless networks tab, I have repeatedly deleted the connection and reentered the security password and again put it as automatically connect but it still comes up as Identifying. I have seen many people with this same problem and have tried many of the suggestions to no avail. It is rather bizarre because my connection will be in this Identifying state for a while and randomly connect properly and I have no idea what makes it go off and on so erratically. I just had it working again for a few days and it is again acting up.

I have an internet connection issue on my desktop that has had me pulling my hair out the last 6+ hours - it may (or may not) be connected to the removal of a zeroaccess rootkit recently. Unfortunately, I removed it, then i've been away at my girlfriends since - so I can't remember exactly what I used to remove it - I believe it was the Kaspersky tool. Anyway, ever since startup this morning, i've not been able to connect to the net. I haven't even been able to connect to another computer (this laptop) via a crossover cable. The connection to the net (wireless) is stuck on "identifying". I've googled it and tried some steps i've found on the net, and here within the forums, to no avail. The key issue appears to be linked to AFD.sys, it is in the system32 folder, but not showing in the device manager (hidden devices shown) nor in services.msc! I've tried registry repairs, from those i've downloaded, even to the reg settings for AFD from this laptop - both running 7 Ultimate 64. I'm at the end of my limited ability/knowledge.

I'm trying to connect my machine to a network over (wired) LAN. The connection (including internet) works fine in general, but when I open the "Network and Sharing Center", under "View your active networks" it only says "Identifying..." and the network name never appears. I think it has something to do with the (Cisco) routers not supporting the "Broadcast" flag, but disabling it in the registry didn't help either.I need to set my network type to home, but in order to do that Windows needs to recognize it first...

My internet was working fine and I had left it on overnight to download some stuff. Woke up next morning, the computer was off due to the wall socket switch being put off. After putting the computer back on , the internet will not work now. It connects but I cannot browse or do anything .The local area connection just says identifying and the IPv4 connectivity says no network access.
I don't know if this is a software or hardware problem or if some settings were somehow changed . I tried updating my network adapter drivers to no effect. Then again I don't know if I updated it with the right one. I then system restored to the night when everything was working fine and still no effect . Ant ideas ? A friend said that because the computer was just switched off by the power source perhaps the network adapter blew.

So, my computer is stuck in a restart loop. every now and then I see a screen with option to start windows normally or safe mode, but it loops faster then I can hit enter. being a comp guy and knowing enough about comps, tried to load Windows 7 install disk as well as Ubuntu Live Disk.. No luck, loops before they can load. Tried disconnecting everything except CPU, Graphic Card, HDD(3 different), and RAM (1 and all sticks).. No luck there either.

So I'm running Ultimate x64 using Outpost Pro 6.7 when the pc boots up it says identifying network. This takes at least 3 minutes to do. I turn off OP and reboot it starts immediately (OP not running). Is anyone else experiencing this issue? I have been searching for days to no avail. I am kinda partial to Outpost. Once it identifies the network everything works. I can share files with other pcs and all. I am also using Linksys WRT54G router with OpenDNS. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I also posted over on OP forums with no response yet. I can't believe I'm the only one experiencing this.

I was using EASUS partitioning tool to repartition my hard disc a few days ago as my C: drive was running out of space. I merged the C: drive (which is my system drive) with my D: drive (which contains a lot of data as well). All seems to be going well, but after the usual reconfiguration and restart, my windows 7 is stuck in the startup repair screen. Windows is trying to repair my startup without success, which is resulting in a loop. Fortunately i am able to go into safe mode and save my data.

I got a new computer on friday and have set it up today. I installed my windows 7 home premium 64bit and it downloaded,i then went on to put in my xfx AMD graphics card software disk and the download stopped half way through so i started it again and it got right to the last step where it has to re-start the computer. When it started up again insted of loading windows homepage it loaded the system repair screen, it searched and searched but said it had found no problem, so i clicked on the recovery tool restart option that then re-started the computer and the process started again and went straight back onto the system repair screen again. Is there anything i can do to stop it?

A friend asked me to look at their Acer laptop since it was acting up. It was riddled with viruses so I did a system restore. It is now stuck on a loop saying that Windows could not finish installation. Please restart to finish. I've restarted it several times and am still getting this message. I've used the system restore on several other computers and laptops and have not had this problem.

recently, I have gotten adware or malware claiming to be an antivirus says i have 48 viruses and trojans that I got rid of with malwarebytes. Days later I tried to connect to my wireless router with an endless loop of "identifying network" as a result. I'm 100% sure its not the router because I went to my friends house and tried connecting there with no luck.

Okay so i have this machine, acer m3100, that originally had windows vista. I tried to do a clean install of windows 7, with an original windows 7 installation cd.Everything would go okay until right after the computer restarts and goes to the part of COMPLETING INSTALLATION. At that moment my screen suddenly flashes with the blue screen of death. i wasnt able to right the error that shows up though. Then the computer restarts and goes to setup devices and right after that an error message appears saying, windows did not complete installation, due to an unexpected restart, restart the computer and restart the installation. If i click okay it will go into an endless loop. Restarting one time after another. So i thought i would install windows vista again. Try to make things the way they were before, but i get the same error. i'm only able to install xp. With XP everything works fine. I do want to be able to install windows 7 though.

I have a windows 7 pro 64 bit HP desktop computer that will not load windows. I have tried safemode, safemode w/ networking, and last know good config. I've run startup repair both from windowsRE and an original windows 7 pro disk. I have attempted multiple system restores (non destructive) to a number of different dates. The system restores say that they work but the machine still loops.
I know it's just some small windows corruption. I would have no trouble backing up my files with a linux distribution live flash drive and restoring the OS but I REALLY don't want to do that. How can I identify and repair the problem without starting from scratch. I'm familiar with msdos cli, but don't know which commands (if any) will help. I also don't know of any live CD's/ tools that will allow me to fix this problem. My problem here is simply lack of information.

When I tried to boot Windows 7 yesterday, I got a prompt saying that a disk check had been scheduled. I initially thought this got stuck because it seemed to freeze on 10% and the numbers alongside that figure didn't go up. I rebooted my computer and let it start again, after a few hours(!) the disk check finished and started on another of my drives. Again, I let this complete and it eventually rebooted itself. Upon rebooting it however, it did the exact same thing and appears to be in a loop just doing the disk check over and over.
I Googled this and opened the command prompt and checked all my drives (it disk checked f and c) but none are marked as dirty. I ran the command to stop the disk check on all drives anyway but still the problem persists.
Right at the start it says I can cancel the check by pressing any key on the keyboard but for some reason, it doesn't work - not sure if it's not recognising the keyboard or not.
I've also tried to boot into safe mode to see if that bypasses it but that hangs at classpnp.sys so that's a no go right now as well. I tried renaming the file to classpnp.old as a forum suggested but it blue screens and restarts if I do that. I'm currently trying a linux boot cd to replace to file to see if that works.

I reformatted my hard drive to install a copy of Windows 7 Ultimate, 64bit (I had Windows 7 Premium, 64bit before) and the installation ran just fine. After the installation, it boots up to what I guess is the desktop, waits a few moments, then just reboots. Every time before it boots it goes to the "Windows is loading files..." screen. I also tried 32bit, but got the same results. If you need more information, just ask and I'll be glad to provide it for you. A USB stick was used to install.

when I was playing a game and it crashed on a loading screen, I then could only boot into windows extremely slowly so I knew something was wrong. Since then I have booted into safe mode and done a virus check and it found nothing, I had then done a start up repair multiple times and for one reason or another the system would then reboot just as the login screen is loading. I have recently de fragmented the drive externally and run a slow disk check which found nothing. I've launched start up repair again which says it's unable to fix the problem and I can't boot into safe mode because it'll reboot. I should also mention I was having problems with the drive a few weeks ago where I was getting different error messages before booting but I managed to sort that out. If a solution can't be found it would be safe to say the drive is failing. Here is the bsod when I disabled automatic rebooting along with the startup repair error.

my problem is rather odd (or at least I haven't seen it before). Whenever I boot up the netbook it goes right into startup repair, without the option to cancel it, even if I try to start windows in safe mode (or any other startup options for that matter), the system launches the startup repair. The repair itself runs fine (doesn't freeze or antyhing like that), however it is never able to fix the issue ("Startup Repair is unable to repair this computer automatically").
The problem details read as follows:
Problem signature:
Problem event name: StartupRepairOffline
Problem signature01: 0.0.0.0
Problem signature02: 6.1.7600.16385
Problem signature03: unknown
Problem signature04: 6

My desktop is stuck on "identifying" when I try to get an internet connection. My laptop wireless works fine. I have uninstalled all network drivers (including hidden), rebooted router, googloed for 8 hours now.
- Model of network card/chip? Realtek RTL8168B/8111b family pci - E gigabit ethernet NIC
- Is your Windows 7 32bit or 64bit? 7 64bit
- Are you talking about wired or/and wireless connections? wired (wireless is fine)
- Are you connected to a router or directly to the modem? router
- Is your network card/chip recognized under "Device Manager"? (its there and I removed all adapters (and hidden) and rebooted a few times
- Did you verify your ethernet cable to be sure there is no damage, or that it's not bent? yes
- Did you configure an Ip adress yourself or you left it do that automatically? tried both...I get a very wierd IP address 169.254.197.21 and when I try to get to router using 169.198.0.1 it gives me an error message.
- Did you installed the proper network drivers? yes
- Is there anything else that doesn't act normal? for desktop "identifying .. no internet access" on the wireless connection.. the desktop is showing error..BUT my laptop is working and at full strength...which is how I am commmunicating now. Have you used Spybot S&D to remove those pesky spywares that prevents the computer from connecting to the web?

General failure. 100% loss". I have also tried to connect while in safe-mode but not luck and i also reset all setting in IE. I have two other computers connecting to my 2wire modem and they are both working fine. The last attempt was installing a new network pci card. I have also swapped out the cable but i still get "Identifying... No internet access."
