Windows 7 Gadgets All Lost Including Clock / CPU Meter
Jul 23, 2011
I got a serious problem about Windows7 Gadgets. I lose all gadgets including the original clock and cpu meters. If I try to launch sidebar.exe, it will appear as shown in picture. If I close this window, sidebar.exe will be terminated as well. I've tried deleting the gadget cache but it seems not working.

Recently I noticed my CPU being pushed to 100% by a trojan (igfxupdate) though not knowing the cause of the usage I simply tried restarting the computer, though when the computer restarted my CPU Meter was gone. I have now completely removed the virus but my CPU Meter never showed up. It isn't in my list of gadgets and it doesn't reappear when I click restore gadgets, however, it seems to have all of it's files (in my windows siderbar folder). So I am at a loss as to how to fix it and I can't simply reinstall it because it comes with windows. I was really a big fan of this gadget and now that it helped me catch this virus I feel naked without it. I know I can download a different CPU Meter but I like the simplicity and reliability of the windows one?

Lately my bottom right display on the task bar is disappearing. This includes the clock, and all system tray icons. All I have to do is open the task bar properties and click OK and then it comes back. This does not happen after a reboot, it just happens suddenly for no reason, and a couple times a week.

I am running Windows 7 and had problems where user profile service would not load. I followed instructions saying to open in safe mode and delete profile files ending .bak via the regeditor. Now it boots up but all the user information is gone, desktop icons etc. The worst is all my microsoft outlook messages which contained hundreds of important messages. I can't seem to find the pst file.I'm assuming it's on the computer somewhere? I've done a search of the computer for *.pst and haven't found anything

At any rate, I just got myself a new ASUS laptop running windows 7 64-bit. Now I had no problems with it setting up Firefox, installing antivirus or installing the host of windows updates. What did happen is that when I tried to reboot (for the second time, first time wasn't a problem) it gave me a screen called "configuring windows features". Now I at this point I cried out a few curses and went to have something to eat. When I returned, half an hour later, the progress was still at 15%, the same as when I left it. Obviously having frozen up, I gave it a quick search. People with similar problems with windows updates reccomended forcing a powerdown despite the warning. After waiting for another half hour I did just that. Now Windows is refusing to start at all. It just sits at the "starting Windows" screen. Safe mode gets stuck on the screen with the list of drivers and restoration tools just gives me a black screen.

Today when I turned on my laptop, suddenly, there was a message that my battery has problems so the computer might shut down suddenly. I tried different strategies, like uninstalling the battery driver, or letting the computer completely die. When it turned off itself at 6%, I turned it back on, and it was at 2 minutes battery life. Then in a few minutes, it said 4 minutes battery life for 6%. Now, it's passed an hour, and it says 3 minutes, but changes sometimes to 1-4 minutes. The battery meter is completely wrong, and I don't know what to do since it is closing the computer way too early. I'm still not sure what the problem is.

Twice, When I was on video conference with 3 of my friends (Google Plus Hang Out - Google Chrome browser)2. When I tried to Mix audio and Video in Windows Live Movie Maker3. I use a Software called Fruity Loops for Music Programming. I had created a project 4 months ago with this software. It worked fine then. The CPU consumption to play my program live was Nominal.I opened the same project a couple of weeks ago, and the project wouldnt even play.It drags... CPU shoots up and system shuts downI removed all the unncessary programs that I had installed on my machine. I still face the problem. The problem first occured, when I used Adobe Audition to remove noise from a recording.

I created a live CD of Ubuntu in order to install it alongside Windows 7. I began the installation, and suddenly the diagram (the one showing how much space each OS takes) stopped showing Windows. Almost immediately after, the installation kicked me back to the live CD, saying the installation failed. Still using the live CD, I saw that Ubuntu had not finished, but the little it did install was simply lingering on my drive. For some reason - probably sheer shock coupled with sleep deprivation - I didn't check to see if anything remained of Windows 7 before I shut down the computer. I then removed the live CD and booted the computer up.
After POST, I'm greeted by a screen that looks like the command prompt, but I am unable to input any commands. I first tried to access the recovery partition by pressing F9 at startup (which used to work), but it simply cuts to the aforementioned black screen. I also tried using various emergency boot discs, but none of them worked; some weren't recognized/loaded, and others partially loaded before displaying an error message. Since then, I have yet to get it to boot to a disc without an error occurring. I am going to contact ASUS and have (a) recovery disc(s) sent, but I doubt they'll do any good; I can't get the computer to load discs, and that's not even mentioning my likely-gone recovery partition. I'm also concerned that my HDD is irreparably damaged.

I Upgraded My Windows7 Starter To Ultimate Recently And Everything Was Going Fine, But I Wasn't Happy With The Disk Space Because I Had Ubuntu As Second OS And I Wanted More Space For Win7. ( Ubuntu Was In The same Partition As Win7 C: ). I Searched For Ways Of Increasing The Size Of The Partition But I Didn't Understood Them So I Deleted Ubuntu. The Space Wasn't Recovered (Unallocated Space) So I Still Searched For Ways Of Making The Partition Size Bigger And i Found a Way That Said If You Right Clicked The Gray Square Of Disk Utility And Click a Phrase That i Don't Remember You Can Show the "Resize" Option Of the Partition.i Did That and i Received a Notification Dialog That Said That Said That If i Do That All The Partitions (OS's, Files, And Drivers) Would Be Deleted And I Like A DUMB Clicked "Ok" At Next Restart There Was No Boot Manager, The Boot Just Loaded Again And Again. So I Installed Ubuntu Using a Bootable USB (Current OS) And There Was No "Install Alongside Other OS" Option. I Tried To Run Windows 7 Setup Again Using a Bootable USB, But I Get Stuck at The Part That You Must Select The Drivers Needed So Windows Could Read The Partitions. I Have The CD With The Drivers But i Have a Dell Inspiron Mini 1012 Netbook With No CD Drive So i Downloaded All The Drivers That the Factory Installs From Dell.com And Saved It on A USB But the Windows 7 Setup Doesn't Recognize The Drivers, It Only Recognize The USB But Not It Contents(Drivers).I Want To Keep Using Windows 7 And All Programs i Need Windows But It Seems Like Ubuntu Is My Only Option.

I have my taskbar on the right side of the screen. I have gadgets (network meter, and CPU usage) to the left of the taskbar. I added the Drives Meter gadget and it popped to the left of the taskbar, top of the screen. I want all my gadgets at the bottom of the screen, stacked to the left of the taskbar, but they won't move.

I don't know what happened but yesterday its like my computer died, It worked fine then all of a sudden shut down and now its a mess, When it starts up it takes forever and Norton doesn't start, It won't allow me to do any updates through the control panel, I can't open any program that includes explorer(obviously am not using my computer), norton, anything and trying to open stuff in safe mode does nothing either.I tried the .exe fix by downloading it on a different comp and using a usb drive but i just get random error messages and nothing seems to happen when it says it merged.I tried a system restore but even the oldest choice it gave me I still had same issues. At this point I'd be fine wiping everything clean and starting with it as a new computer like when i got it i am not worried about losing any info I can deal with it.

I recently renewed my internet security subscription. Immediately after doing so, the Calendar and Weather gadgets stopped working. The Calendar shows up as a blank orange/white square and opening up the Weather gadget will just reveal the "i" information symbol and a X close button, neither of which actually work.
Clock gadget also stopped working but then after an hour later it started working again and has been working since. I have tried deleting/uninstalling the gadgets but that hasn't worked. I have tried several tricks with the Windows command prompt which doesn't work either.
I'm considering using an automatic system restore (I don't have any manual saved points to restore) on just the gadgets themselves. Is that the way to go, or is there something else I could try? I've decided to name it: McAfee. I didn't at first, because it's been my experience whenever I mention a problem and mention an antiviral program.
I mention McAfee because it's an odd thing: I've searched forums and have found that others have had the almost the same problem; except with them it happens when you UNINSTALL McAfee, not renew it. I've also found another possible solution that involves deleting a registry key, but I'm way too nervous to try that.
