View 1 RepliesHad a bad storm last night, so I shut down the comp. Restarted this a.m. tried to stream the Arsenal match and mozilla would crash every time I tried to leave the home page. Went to IE, watched the match, and then began to TS moz. After a bit I decided to unistall. Upon trying to reinstall i get a corrupt file error msg during extraction. I then tried to d.l. Chrome and had problems w. that too. Yet amazingly enough, IE works fine. Is this Microsoft just f'in w. me 'cause I'm not amused?I also notice that in my start menu I have no quick select icons for network connections, control panel, etc.

I read through a few threads with similar topics but the issues were either not quite the same and/or resolved comparatively easily. I am trying to repair a 1.5 year-old HP Pavilion running Windows 7 Home Premium 64. This machine is used as the main office computer in a small doctor's office. In spite of my warnings, anti-virus software was not installed until it was too lateThere was a major issue about seven months ago that required another company to repairThe problem is explorer.exe will not run. Double-clicking a shortcut on the desktop, clicking the text name of a program from the Start menu, and even in the cmd results in the same response, a dialog box pops up stating windows explorer has stopped working.
windows is checking for a solution to the problem. followed by another box stating windows explorer is restarting. But the requested application never starts. I have run the Ultimate Boot CD 4 Win, replaced the hard drive and cloned all data, run numerous registry scans, malware scans and antivirus scans. Initially removing over 1500 virus/malware hits and over 1400 registry errors. But the main problem persists, explorer.exe won't open programs.
I have read the past posts regarding this issue and I have tried the so called hotfix that Microsoft issued regarding this issue but it did not work.
Asus G74sx
Intel i7 2670qm processor
16gb ram
Windows Ultimate 64bit version
I have done the hotfix, I have ran check disk, I have run Norton 360, I did not have this problem before the last windows update. I even tried rolling back. I got fed up and ran the recovery disk that came with my laptop, and I still have the same problem.
If I click on one directory I get "Windows Explorer has stopped working". It used to be fine but crashes WE every time now. A colleague suggested right click and reset the properties, but right click causes the crash too.I can open it remotely from an XP system, and I can navigate it in a DOS box so I know the files are all still good.Disk check says "No problems".Sophos anti-virus scan finds nothing. Malwarebytes scan finds nothing.None of these crash or report corruption.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a problem with my Windows 7. I'm using Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit. The problem is that when I try to enter a certain folder in my external hdd explorer crashes... Can it be the size of folder? It's 524GB big... Maybe explorer can't take it? Just upgraded from Vista and I had no problems on Vista what so ever... I've tried CCleaner and other pc cleaning software.
View 22 Replies View RelatedI had Windows 7 automatically downloading and installing critical updates. NO MORE!!! On 8/7/2012 a critical update was automatically downloaded and installed, unnoticed by me. When my computer would not turn on yesterday, 8/8/12 I tried many things, eventually restarting in Safe Mode - which did at least get me out of the black error screen and into windows. After poking around and testing things, I finally decided the only way to go was System Restore. There, I found there'd been an automatic critical update on 8/7/12. After restoring to before that point and turning off all automatic windows updates, my computer is now running fine.
View 11 Replies View Relatedfirst of all i have a sony laptop with 7 ultimate 64bit, the problem started when i was using convertxtodvd (software) and watching Internet videos at the same time. i was watching online videos and had converxtodvd converting a video into dvd, (for maybe 15 mins?), then the computer suddenly frozed. i turned it off figure that maybe the laptop coundn't handle that much task. i turned it back on and probelms started to show, the explorer.exe started crashing every 5 to 8 mins after the computer starts up. i tweaked it a little bit, but i ended up with no success. so i decided to reboot the whole computer, but after the installation, i receive an error message just before i get to the preference screen (the screen where u choose your computer name and such) it states, "the computer restarted unexpectedly or encounter and unexpected error. windows installation cannot proceed. to install windows click "ok" to restart the computer, and then restart the installation. but the thing is this error message appears every time and i never get to the preference screen.could it be that something is broken internally? maybe the memory is faulty? graphic card is faulty? damaged? because i also remember back that my lil brother hit the laptop (the keyboard part) a couple of times (pretty hard too).
View 9 Replies View RelatedThis is a really weird problem. I'm not sure it is directly related to Windows 7, but I thought I start here. I recently had to rebuild my Dell 531. New HD, Windows 7 Ultimate loaded over XP. I restored all my files from Mosy. Reloaded all the Office apps from Office 2007 Ultimate. What I just found is that there are certain Word and Excel files that if I even highlight using Explorer or try to open in the application will immediately crash the application. But, it is only certain files. There may be a dozen files in a folder and only a few will cause a crash. It doesn't take down the computer, only the application - I don't have to click on the file - only touch it. It doesn't happen on PDFs or graphic files (at least not that I found.)It gets weirder. I used FolderMatch to sync files between my Dell 531 and my Dell 9200 laptop. The very same files that I copied from the Dell 531 to the laptop do not have the problem on the laptop. The laptop is running the same version of Windows 7 and application programs as the 531.

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy laptop is only 4 days old. The IE9 icon in the taskbar was working properly meaning if I click the icon it will launch a webpage and if I pressed it again it will launch another webpage (the icon in the taskbar then get stacked up which is correct). Unfortunately after a windows update on my laptop, this feature doesn't work anymore. When I click the icon it will open a webpage but if I click it again the webpage CLOSES! No matter how many times I click the icon in the taskbar it won't launch another webpage. The IE in the start menu works fine and it will open as many webpages as I like but not in the taskbar (I have unpinned and repinned but to no difference) I have even done a system restore back to the earliest date possible but the problem has not been reverted. How to I fix it?.

View 0 Replies View RelatedI read in Classic Shell's FAQ that I can add a button for e.g. Agent Ransack to my Windows Explorer toolbar, to do searches. I know how to add that button so that it launches Agent Ransack, but I want Agent Ransack's search location to be the folder in which I clicked the button. I suspect that I need to edit the shortcut properties, but with what?
I can currently right-click any folder and select "Agent Ransack" and it will use that folder as the search location. But I want the ability to click a shortcut while a folder is already open (otherwise I have to go up to the parent folder, and then right-click the folder and select Agent Ransack, and then down into the folder to open it up again).

I have a problem with Windows Explorer, I searched for a valid solution besides reinstalling or creating a new user (profile), both solution that I find unacceptable but to no avail. Expected behavior from Windows Explorer. You copy a file into a folder, you want it to automatically get into order in whatever sorting order you choose. Current behavior of my Windows Explorer, when I copy a file into a folder or if I rename a file and want Explorer to update I have to hit F5 (Actualiser (in french)). Since my Windows in is french I have some difficulty to find the correct wording to conduct the search.

View 1 Replies View RelatedA lot of people I have discovered within the last few days have had a problem with right clicking in explorer, causing it to crash. This occurs of Vista, and 7 (7100 atleast) when you install an app, and it installs a context menu shortcut or whatever.
The simple way to get rid of the crashing is by going to "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT*shellex ContextMenuHandlers" in regedit.exe, backing up the whole ConxtentMenuHandlers folder, and then start deleting all of them one by one (you can start with the ones you've been meaning to get rid of anyway ) and continuously testing the right click. Be careful not to click on an actual folder when opening of explorer after the crash because for me that seemed to solve the problem temporarily. Instead just open up your username folder and right click on a file until it stops. Of course import the Context folder after you find it, test explorer once again by right clicking to make sure you found the problem, and delete the file that caused the problem.
But anyway, I updated my windows 7 Ultimate 64bit on December 14th. When I tried to reboot, it simply looped over and over until system repair came up. I've run it 19 times to date, and nothing. Luckily I have another windows 7 ultimate 64, and I created a repair disk on that to use. I tried the memory restore boot option, disable driver signing, diagnosed memory errors, etc. I tried to run an SFC Scannow, but it always says that there is a system repair that requires a reboot, please try again later. I managed to get all of my files off the computer, but still, I have nine different users on it, and it would be a pain in the ass to restore it. Is there anything I haven't tried? And before you ask, this is a legitimate copy -.-EDIT: I thought to disable automatic reboot after a crash, and I got the following error message:STOP: c000021a {Fatal System error}The non-DLL file included in known DLL list. system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0xc000036f (0x005ff710 0x00000000)
View 1 Replies View RelatedYou know how when you make changes inside a folder or any directory under windows 7 using explorer, updates, new files downloaded, any changes will reflect in that folder listing/view instanteously, without you having to hit the "refesh" button on the address bar to see what changes took place in that folder. My problem is with the new Fantom Drive ext USB HDD I bought. Anything I do inside that drives folder hiearchy of files. Like downloading new files from firefox, or unraring a bunch of archives; all changes will not show until I go manually hit the folder refresh button every time. Why is that not automatic? Like it is with my main internal C Drive, and my other ext usb LaCie HDD.
