Will System Disk Install Windows 7 On New HD
Oct 5, 2011
I have a 5 month old computer with a Seagate drive that has already triped the SMART warning. I voided the warrenty when I opened the box to put in my old secondary drive and my firewire card, so I am on my own. I want to replace the bad drive with a new one, but don't have the Windows 7 disk (came installed on the computer). I have created a System disc and a system image.

Can anyone tell me if I can install an OEM Win 7 64 bit serial number on a system that was loaded from a Dell reinstallation disk? I bought the disk, and what turned out to be a bogas serial number from different venders. Now I have purchased the whole legitimate program from a vender I trust. The reason for wanting to do this involves licensing limits on other expensive software already loaded.

I recently did a whole new build, new hard drive, mobo (GA-P35-DS3L/S3L) and processor. The problem is, I'm trying to install Windows 7 Ultimate and I come up with "Insert system disk and press enter" error when I try to boot from the disk. I checked the BIOS and the mobo had recognized the DVD drive and the hard drive. I tried putting the hard drive under slave and the DVD drive under master, and vice-versa. I am a high school student who generally gets lots of home work, so it would be nice to be able to type out my work.

I woke up this morning, and I found that my computer was displaying this message"Disk boot failure, insert system disk and press enter". There are a ton of needed documents on the computer, and I'm hoping that they can be saved some way.

I've been having this error even after reformatting and reinstalling Windows 7 on my desktop. I've done reformatting / reinstalling Windows 7 several times, yet the problem still occurs. I'm thinking of my HDD as being corrupted or messed up. The problem occurred after I accidentally hit the CPU when I was stretching my foot. The screen froze after that. Upon rebooting it, 'Disk boot failure, Insert system disk and press enter' occurs. After I entered the DVD installer of Windows 7, the screen just hangs.

I have been having a bit of trouble with windows 7 lately, namely that it won't start up right. When I boot from the drive normally, it gives me the classic "BOOT DISK ERROR: INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER" message.
However, I soon discovered that if I boot from the Windows 7 cd and do not boot from it (By ignoring the "Press a key to boot from CD or DVD..." Windows 7 boots up fine.
I've tweaked my BIOS over and over, but the same problem persists. The drive is brand new and fine. What can I do?

When starting the computer, I keep getting "Disk boot failure, insert system disk and press enter". Nothing works other than putting in the boot disk and hitting the restart button on the tower. Then it will boot up and run fine. But how do I stop it from having to have the disk in order to load? Checked in the BIOS and the hard drive is the first load.

I was going to make a disk image of a fresh Windows 7/64 install but when attempting to do so using the windows utility it insists on labeling and including in the image a completely separate data-only disk claiming it is also a system disk. Unfortunately it will not allow me to un-check for purposes of exclusion.
Probably should be looking at the root of the problem and determine why this Data Disk is labeled a System Disk. It is an older drive and has been used in a couple computer builds so may have at one time had an OS installed but I can find no indication of such, plus, I usually format before re-purposing.

Using preinstalled Win 7 Home Premium 64bit on an HP 6813w Pavilion. The original hard drive, a Hitachi HDS721010CLA332 1Tb crashed.1) System Recovery discs was made along with a System Recovery with System Image disc.2) A more current System Image was made on an external hard drive. The Hitachi was replaced with the same model. Checked bios to make sure it was installed correctly.Under System Recovery, Image Restore, Select a System Image Backup there is nothing in the table to choose from as far as a source (disc drive or external drive).A) System Recovery (3 discs) has the HP preinstall file folder on the 3rd disc but is not read by the System Recovery program.B) Under System Restore, Image Restore, Advanced, it asks for a network or driver to be installed. That opens up the directory of C: which is the external hard drive. Under WindowsImageBackup the computer name is identified followed by three entries:[CODE]It seems to me the Recovery and System Restore discs are not functional. Am not a technical person but I have taken this as far as I know how at this point.Printed out all the instructions from HP and Microsoft to follow step by step but the failed discs will not allow me to move forward.

Per microsoft I need to do try a repair install from original disk. Is there a difference between running repair install from Windows or booting from original disk then selecting upgrade install? Is one or the other preferred? Directions say both attempt to preserve installed programs, but not all drivers, and both require reinstalling all the 60 or so windows updates released after my disk. so no differences there.

I've built a brand new PC and decided that I would like to install windows 7 64 bit on my SSD, I got a disk+key from my university before christmas so that'd i'd be ready once i'd built it.
I built the PC yesterday and realised that I'd left my external DVD drive at my university accommodation, I'm at my parents house for christmas break so that's a few weeks left. I can't really wait that long so I used my parents laptop (which I'm posting from now) to turn the disk into an .iso and use the microsoft USB utility to make a USB stick that i could install from.
However when I tried the install gets to 'installing features' and gives 'windows cannot install required files' error code 0x80070570 I looked the code up on google which sent me to a lot of threads here, so far I've tried:
Taking all but 1 stick of ram out and the graphics card. Reseting the bios to default Installing again without rebooting after error. using cmd to select the right partition

trying to install Windows 7 on sony laptop with a copy that is different from the original copy of Windows 7.did partdisk, clean all, create partition, and dvd install gave the "can't install to disk, turn on disk controller in BIOS" error. there is no disk controller function in my BIOS.if partdisk clean all was successful, does that mean the HDD and its controller board are ok, that is, not physically damaged, and the problem is with software/installation/setup etc.?what should i do next, in order to have a successful install?

I want to do a 'custom' reinstall on my C: drive. It's clogged with unused programs and it runs very slow.I set the BOIS to boot from HD and CD; neither worked. I purchased a new HD and may want to install it as my C: drive.I set the BOIS to boot from CD; still I get the dreaded message:"Disk boot failure insert system disk and and press enter"I recently installed a new mother board due to the fact it was defective, not as an upgrade. To make it clear I already had Win7 Ultimate installed. On my first attempt to perform #1 I got to the question of which install did I want; I clicked 'custom'. From then on nothing happened, and now I keep getting "THE DREADED MESSAGE".I put my win7 disk in another OSXP computer and it displayed, "This disk is not compatible with this system" so I assumed my disc was not corrupt.I bought my win7 disk legally on line a couple of years ago, and I have used it once. Will that be the problem? I never got to the "License key" so I don't see how it could be?

I have Win XP on my system and thought it might be time to upgrade to Win7 64. I don't want Win8 and heard Microsoft will stop serving XP soon.My question. I have a 2nd hard drive [1 TB] I keep my files on so I can reinstall the OS on the 1st HD easily.
When I install Win7 on the 1st HD, will I be able to plug my 2nd HD back up with no problems, or will it need to be reformatted somehow? There are no programs on it, just files.

NT Kernel & System rises to top of list in task manager and then just totally stops installs from proceeding. I have fought NT Kernel & System on 3 computers running Win 7 x64 ever since Win 7 has been out. No one yet that I know of has been able to solve the issue. I now need to install Java and can't because of NT Kernel & System stops it. I have tried everything on every forum and sites l find with Google searches. Nothing has worked yet.

For about the past 2 weeks my computer has been becoming slower and slower on startup, and just general usage. And so today I decided to take some actions to try to make it startup faster and just run faster in general. So i ran msconfig, disabled some startup entries and some non microsoft services. Also, knowing that disabling the boot GUI made the computer startup faster, I disabled that also. Then when I went to restart, I ran into problems.
When I turned the computer on I knew it wouldnt show the bootGUI and so I let it just sit and do its thing. After a very long 15 minutes (longer then it ever had been before) with just a black screen, I held the power button to turn it off. Then turned it back on, and got to the windows recovery window. So I hit f8, went into safe mode, loaded up msconfig, and enabled the bootgui, and restarted.
This time it showed the boot gui. However, once the windows logo was shown for about 15 seconds it switched to a screen that said "Windows is loading files" With a loading bar under it. I had never seen this before so I just let it load at first. As I was waiting for it to load I went and got dinner. Roughly 30 minutes later I went back and it was still stuck at not eve 1/4th of the way. So I held the power button again, restarted, went through the whole process again and then it brought up a message that said the communication with the device was gone. And that it happens when you pull a flash drive out or a hard drive or DVD drive looses power.
I do not think that my hard drive is going back. It is about 5 months old. Along with the rest of my computer. Pretty new. 5 months about.
System Specs:
Mainboard: MSI 970A-G54
Processor: AMD FX 8120 8 Core Processor

Less than a month ago I build a new rig, installed Windows 7 on my SSD and at a later time I attached my old 1TB large disk with still had XP installed on it.Windows is protecting this drive, all folders are flagged read only and I'm unable to remove the read only flag, each time I try, and check back after processing a job to un flag it, there still there.I'm able to delete files and folders after accepting the UAC popup, however, there are several folders I want to remove but am unable to, /Boot, /Documents & Settings, /Windows and some root system files, but windows doesn't let me.(I need to run programs with elevated rights in order to be able to modify those files) The /Boot is from an older Windows 7 install and it should be safe removing it, because I installed windows 7 on a SSD with out any other disks attached, so no dual boot stuff. But worst of all, many files are also flagged read only, along with my project files that I'm now unable to modify. What buttons do I need to press to get windows to understand he should not be protecting this disk and there ain't no windows installed on it so I can clean up get rid of those read only flags on the files
