Install .EXE Files / Change Security Feature Preventing Install?

Apr 10, 2012

I have a few small .exe files that I received by e-mail. When I click on them to install the program I get a message saying Windows is preventing running the file for security reasons. I know the file is free of viruses and want to install it. I am told there is a setting somewhere to turn this security feature "off"--I am the only user of my PC and want this annoyance turned off.

I am running Windows 7 Pro 64-bit on a stand-alone PC with a hardwired Internet connection (no router).

'Windows Cannot Install Required Files' On Flash Disk Install To SSD

Jan 2, 2011

I've built a brand new PC and decided that I would like to install windows 7 64 bit on my SSD, I got a disk+key from my university before christmas so that'd i'd be ready once i'd built it.

I built the PC yesterday and realised that I'd left my external DVD drive at my university accommodation, I'm at my parents house for christmas break so that's a few weeks left. I can't really wait that long so I used my parents laptop (which I'm posting from now) to turn the disk into an .iso and use the microsoft USB utility to make a USB stick that i could install from.

However when I tried the install gets to 'installing features' and gives 'windows cannot install required files' error code 0x80070570 I looked the code up on google which sent me to a lot of threads here, so far I've tried:

Taking all but 1 stick of ram out and the graphics card. Reseting the bios to default Installing again without rebooting after error. using cmd to select the right partition

Error 0x80070017 - Expanding Files (0%) - "Cannot Install Required Files"?

Jun 10, 2009

I deleted all my hard drive partitions and formatted my hard drive to wipe it clean. Now when I try to install Windows 7 onto my computer, the DVD boots and the installation begins. The installation will complete the "Copying windows files" task in seconds, but sticks at 0% on "Expanding files" for about 30 seconds. I will then receive an error that reads "Windows cannot install required files. The file may be corrupt or missing. Make sure all files required for installation are available, and restart the application. Error code: 0x80070017".I researched this error but couldn't find a resolution. One suggestion was to download my hard drive's drivers onto a pen drive and load them in the installation, but t also tried installing Windows Vista and received the same problem. The error in this case has nothing to do with the copy. I have used many different Windows 7 builds, many different DVDs, burning at different speeds, all producing the same problemOnly when using the Windows 7 RC disc I was asked to "load drivers" as a requirement.Other builds didn't require me to load drivers.

"Windows Cannot Install Required Files. Make Sure All Files Required For Installation Are Available"

Jun 26, 2011

It will get as far as "expanding files" then stop at 0%, with an error saying "Windows cannot install required files. Make sure all files required for installation are available, and restart the installation." I have tried it with multiple iso burns on different dvds from the download I got of it, redownloading it from the official downloader, and now have tried the dvd that came in the mail, to no avail.

OS Re-install, Now All Files?

Feb 13, 2012

OS re-install, now all files "read only"I had my Windows 7-64 bit re-installed. Now, all my work files and folders are "read only". I tried something called "take ownership", but that didn't seem to work. I unclicked "read only" in the properties dialog box for specific folders... would be 'denied', but allowed to continue... then as soon as I finished I would check the properties again and it would still be "read only".The only way I know to get around this is to 'save as' under a different name, delete the original file, then 'save as' again under the name I want. I really don't want to do that for each individual file. How can I fix this?

PC Won't Let To Uninstall Or Install Files

I recently noticed that my PC is not being very cooperative, it's not letting me open installers, or uninstallers, some files it wont let me edit them or move them because I don't have permission. Some files wont even let me do things in them, or edit them. I am the admin of the PC, so this is obviously not right.

Need To Backup Files And Clean Install?

Aug 8, 2009

YOU MUST DO A CLEAN INSTALL. There is no upgrade path. There are user migration tools you can use, but you will need to backup your files and do a clean install. I have seen several threads about this and just want to clarify. The upgrade from Windows Vista is a valid upgrade path, but Windows XP to Windows 7 is not.

Cannot Install Games Into Program Files (x86)

All Files Damaged After Windows 7 Install?

Dec 11, 2010

I have installed Windows 7 on my pc but now all the files that I had in another partition seem to be damaged. I can't open zip files, images, docs, excels, etc. It always says that the file is damaged or in a format that can't open.

I have tried to open an image in my laptop and I can't either, so I think that the install damaged all the files I had (photos of my life, etc).

Anyone knows why it has happened? any way to fix or recover the damaged files?

New Install, Can't Access Partitioned Files

Jan 9, 2012

I had Windows XP operating system with users and saved my files on a partition. Just installed Windows 7 and now I can't access the partitioned files due to permissions. If I try to open a file, I get the message "You Don't Currently Have Permission To Access This Folder: Click continue to permanently get access to this folder". If I click continue, it tells me to go to the security tab. Once there, it tells me it's unable to display the current owner. I can still gain access to the specific folder (as an administrator) but not the sub-folders. There are thousands of folders and I would have to do them individually. Is there a way to blanket share all the files on my partitioned drive?

Win 7 Full Install Not Wiping My Files

Nov 16, 2009

I've installed Windows 7 Full version 3 times now but all of my old files are still on the computer. I used 'custom install' as I read that this would wipe everything...but it didn't. ???

My pc is choc-a-block full of rubbish and I want it all gone without having to go through deleting it all manually..I've been able to wipe everything with previous windows installs so I can't understand why it doesn't work with Windows7.

Also, I have 2 partitions on my hard drive (the other has Linux on it)...I'd like to go back to just having the one & installing windows7 over everything...does anyone know how I can do this.
