View 6 RepliesI have a laptop and desktop both running win7, both connected via wifi to the same router which is two floors down. I would like to access the laptop from desktop via remote desktop. It works fine but is a bit slow. My question is: Can I connect the laptop and desktop via a crossover cable to speed up the remote desktop connection between the two computers?I suspect plugging one or both computers directly into the router may help but I would really like to keep the two computers in the same room. The purpose of connecting remote desktop between the two computers is NOT for sharing the internet connection or even for file sharing; it is simply because the laptop computer has some applications on it that the desktop computer does not.

I just want to be able to increase the speed of my fans beyond their spec, and have complete manual control over their RPMs without a care about the temps. I have a liquid cooling setup and the fans on my radiator as they are right now simply aren't cutting it. I have them hooked up to the motherboard in hopes of finding something to just boost their speed via software, but SpeedFan is the only thing I could find and it simply sucks for that purpose.

I have a new gaming computer with a high end video card and plenty of RAM and a high speed cable Internet connection. I also have a HDHomeRun TV cable unit which is listed to work with MS Media Center. When I set up my Media Center/TV connection it recognizes my HDHomeRun TV connection and all three TV channels via my MCard I got from Comcast cable. But next to the last dialog window, during setting up my TV connection, I got the following message, "Your computer is not digital cable ready. You will not be able to set it up for use with a cable card."

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am currently thinking about overclocking my new processor. To be quite honest I am a little new to overclocking and just wanted to get a few questions answered before I decide to start.clocking from 4.0 GHz to 5.0 GHz. Is this feasible? My main concern is proper cooling and this is where it gets a little complicated, I do not want anything to do with liquid cooling (to be honest, the thought alone is unsettling). Are there any Air coolers that will fit my case (NZXT lexa s) and cool my processor enough to keep it stable at 5.0 GHz? Also, at idle my processor runs at about 12.7 C (around 55 F).
View 7 Replies View RelatedI just finished a new build, and ready to setup with raid0 and win7 64bit.After reading several posts in several categories, I am unsure of the correct sequence of events. I think it is - boot with windows install disk, enter bios, setup raid0, then do windows install to raid array. I will be adding the 2nd set of ssd's for raid 1 in 3-4 days, and was wondering if there was any benefit to wait on the install, set up both raid 0 and raid 1 before the windows install. The ssd's are all 128 GB, the raid0 on sata III 6 gbs ports, the raid 1 will be on the 3gbs ports.

View 4 Replies View Relatedi was on the internet and it seemed windows crashed everything said not responding then wouldn't load. So felt that i had no other choice but to switch off the PC as it had stayed like this for a long time, when i came to reboot i got a message saying 'Reboot or select proper boot device' I am using an Acer Aspire X3450 PC and don't have the recovery disk but i do have an Acer Aspire laptop with the disk, when i put that in the PC it loads up giving me the option to Restore but it wont let me select it or highlight it. So downloaded a copy of windows 7 as a torrent and burned it to a disk in the hope i could re-install windows. This will allow to go into options like startup repair but wont repair anything as it will only seem to recognise the OS on the disk. So i removed the disk and all that happens is the same reboot error. I can't re-install windows as it will not allow me to.

1) Remove driver using add/remove programs
2) Reboot into safe mode
3) Use driver sweeper to remove left over ATI driver files
4) Reboot into regular mode
5) Install updated driver

View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently purchased a Microsoft Wireless 3000 keyboard new. After plugging in the USB receiver and installing the batteries to the keyboard, it seemed everything was going to work. The noise came on that a USB device had been plugged in and it then installed the proper drivers. When I tried to type or use any function on the keyboard, though, it was unresponsive-the keys don't work.
I then tried the following troubleshooting:
1) unplugged my older keyboard (Logitech Office Pro Keyboard PS/2). Then I tried rebooting with it still I unplugged.
2) Inserted the installation disc that came with the new keyboard. I window popped up saying that the program (intelliType) cannot be opened because it is being blocked for compatibility issues. (that is all it said-no cause stated). Restarted computer and tried it again-same outcome.
3) Downloaded the latest driver from the Microsoft website . I made sure it was the exact format for my computer (Windows 7, 64-bit, Keyboard Version 2.0). Installed it fine. I am able to open the intellitype program and configure the various key functions. No response from keyboard though. Restarted computer-nothing changed.
4) Uninstalled (what I could) the Logitech software SetPoint. From my perusal on the internet, it seems it is a very difficult program to uninstall. I deleted the folders from my c: Drive. It was not listed in 'Programs and Features'
5) Uninstalled the intellitype software, rebooted, and let the OS install the generic drivers for the Microsoft keyboard.
6) I went into the BIOS and noticed that the USB Keyboard function was disabled. I enabled it and the other USB functions (mouse, etc.) options were enabled.
7) Replaced the batteries twice-both brand new. The green light next to the battery symbol on the keyboard comes on for a moment after I install the batteries.
8) Tried different USB ports for the wireless receiver. Each time there is that sound that notifies a USB device has been plugged in. The OS even recognizes that it is a wireless receiver. Rebooted computer.
I even tried rebooting with the old keyboard disconnected but I am forced to plug it back in eventually as I have no other way of typing. The keyboard is recognized in device manager (Microsoft Hardware USB Keyboard, Microsoft USB Dual Receiver Wireless Keyboard (IntelliType Pro), Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard Detection Driver). Currently, the IntelliType software is loaded and the SetPoint software uninstalled. Could it be a faulty keyboard?
I just got Windows 7 7232 x64 VHD to iso. I'm currently running 7201 x64 and wondering the best practices for a seamless upgrade?
is it best to fresh install (my preference) but since this is a beta not sure if its worth it.
If I go with an inline upgrade whats the best way to make sure drivers and installed apps are not "hosed" or cause problems?

View 4 Replies View RelatedShort version: Swapped HDDs, then got the error message in title on one of the drives. Tried mbrfix and bootsect via repair through Windows 7 CD, but doesn't help. Drive is still functioning.
Long version: I recently swapped some HDDs back and forth (one with Windows XP and another with Windows 7, but I did not try booting with both at the same time) and all of a sudden, I get the error message listed in the topic. The HDD is definitely still functioning, I can see it in BIOS and when booting with the Windows CD, I can use command prompt and browse the directories. I've tried mbrfix and bootsect. With bootsect, it says it is successful when entering the line "bootsect /nt60 all" and automatically finds the C:. However, when selecting repair through the Windows cd, the adrive does not show up and the operating system is listed as unknown local disk.
I've read through most of the threads with this same problem but either mbrfix or bootsect seems to usually fix it. I'd prefer not to have to copy the entire drive or reformat if possible, but I guess I will have to if I can't find any other solutions. Since bootsect was successful, does it mean the problem lies elsewhere and is not the MBR?
